Match report: Ajax Cape Town and Mamelodi Sundowns goalless

Posted: 27 October 2012 Time: 20:01

Ajax Cape Town and Mamelodi Sundowns could not produce the goods in front of goal and their exciting Premiership match ended 0-0.

Nerves were evident as both sides got off to a cautious start. Eleazar Rodgers had the first effort at goal with a header in the 7th minute, but it was easy pickings for Sander Westerveld.

After the first quarter the pace started to pick up and Toriq Losper was conducting play beautifully for the Urban Warriors.

The midfielder took a shot in the 24th minute before creating some good interlinking play with Khama Billiat and Grandwald Scott minutes later, which resulted in Scott's effort being tipped around the post by Wayne Sandilands.

The fans thought Sundowns had found the back of the net on the half-hour mark when Rodgers got a slight touch to the ball with his head, but it flashed past the near post.

Westerveld caused a stir in the 37th minute when he fumbled Teko Modise's shot at goal and it fell straight back into the midfielder's path, but Nazeer Allie managed to kick the ball out.

Westerveld's blushes were saved in the 49th minute when the upright prevented him from conceding an embarrassing goal from a low Manqele shot, which rolled under his body.

The game started to gain momentum for Ajax on the hour mark and they nearly took the lead when Lebogang Manyama found the back of the net, only for it to be blown offside.

A few minutes later Grobler missed a chance to break the deadlock when his volley, from just inside the box, went wide at the post, after just beating Sandilands.

Nyasha Mushekwi replaced Anthony Laffor up front in an attempt to bring some spark into Downs' frontline for the last 10 minutes.

Substitute Alcardo van Graan stirred things up for Ajax with a low effort at goal five minutes later, but despite each side's last-minute efforts neither could produce the goods for a late winner.

Until when is this Sole trader (Tuckshop) going operate from the owner's pocket? Will this Sole trader ever go to CIPC/DTI at Sunnyside not that far from Marabastad and register atleast as a Private company so that they can start using terms like ROI (Return on Investment)?

Though this week is a week of many draws on PSL but a goalless draw is very bad for people who are paid from one man's pocket.

We'll bounce back but only if Neeskens can realise that Manqele & Rodgers are not quality players and start games with Mushekwi & Henyekane. The 2 folks mentioned above can't create an opportunity for themselves, they function on thru balls hence the struggle we see of them. For Manqele, I'm beginning to agee with KC fans that he could have been allowed to sign for them......Laffor & Pelembe are OK, but Pelembe is forced to always cover for Mabaso who is also very suspect both in defence and attack. He's so fond of passing backwards, which is so disturing for sum1 his age, if he's a youngster as we are made to believe.
