Match report: Orlando Pirates beat University of Pretoria

Posted: 7 October 2012 Time: 17:32

Orlando Pirates ended University of Pretoria's unbeaten League run on Sunday.

The Buccaneers were stunned in the opening minutes by Tuks, but they recovered like true defending champions to score three unanswered goals and bag three valuable points.

The game started off at a slow pace with both teams testing each other in the opening minutes, before Bongani Zungu got the better of the advancing Moeneeb Josephs after receiving a pass from Siyabonga Shoyisa.

The goal sparked more life into Pirates and they started to press forward in search of the equaliser.

Collins Mbesuma and Onyekachi Okwonkwo tried their luck for the equaliser, and after a series of attacks on Tuks' defence, Pirates were rewarded when Mbesuma found the back of the net after a defence splitting pass by Sifiso Myeni.

Immediately after restart, Oupa Manyisa had a chance to hand Bucs the lead, but was denied by the diving clearance of Siyabonga Shoyisa with his goalkeeper stranded.

In the 57th minute Mame Niang watched in disbelief when his point blank header ricocheted off the upright, with Josephs and his defence well-beaten.

Pirates powered forward with an attack of their own and Ramahlwe Mphahlele was judged to have brought down Manyisa in the box.

Jali, who had been yellow carded moments before, sent Washington Arubi the wrong way from the penalty spot as the Buccaneers took the lead for the first time in the game.

Mbesuma then registered his second of the game, beating Arubi after another defence splitting pass from man of the match Myeni.

As a football supporter i will like to congradulate the Gorillas for their hard fought win and as a KCFC supporter i will like to thank Mbesuma for making sure that we pocket that R1.5 million that will be loaned to Khoza to help him afford Tokelo Rantie's R2 million price tag...

People must apologise just like I apologised regarding Takesure...we now have 3 strikers who know yhe net and hit it. I knew Mbesuma was the best signing and I told u people. this is just the beginning, more to come.....we claimed a virgin, amaTuks, we centered them. Know we want kaizer Amakhosikazi virgins. We must center them the entire 90min.

Yes, we won Mabuccaneer but I'm still not impressed at some departments. I wish the captain should go back to his central position he was badly exposed today by these youngsters. I wish Roger should start the match with two natural strikers as Mbesuma was tightly marked in the first 15 mins. All in all we are slowly getting there. Up the Bucs till Zebras win the league within 7 years.

Mr Editor Fainted when Jali score the 2nd Goal. Thats why they ask his assistant to who was attending T20 to write here.

Up the bucs. Shapaa Mbesuma Shapaa. We did a Zebras a favour to beat this Overrated team. They think we are Zebras who always loose to Small teams.

The mission for TTC still on. I wish Zebra can win Q1,2&3 then we Win Q4.

I don't understand the mentality of these Zebras, Tzozo, Bugs Killer etc. because today's results has given them R1,5m, they should be celebrating but surprisingly they sound very hurt.

@Champ Superbrand
Well said Champ and also Klate should be used as a left wing and when we lead by a comfortable margin we slowly introduce Jele at right back for a backup.

I qoute "We won Mbuyane is injured*smilling* he is out 4 3weeks"

unqouet

Need I say more about Pirates fans

Can any of you Gorillas explain the about statement coming from one of you...how on earth do you smile when one of your players gets a seriuos head injury and he is unable to play for 3 weeks?

What is this?

I keep saying that most Pirates fans are part time supporters of the team and that most on this blog are not passionate about their team.

Iam The Phefeni Boy and I blog fearlessly....they know in Orlando
