Platinum Stars beat Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 6 October 2012 Time: 22:22

Mamelodi Sundowns' woeful recent run continued when they lost 1-0 to Platinum Stars at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night.

A poor game of football was decided by a single goal from Henrico Botes, who capitalised on a Sundowns mistake to give his side the three points and deepen the crisis at Chloorkop.

The visitors might have been ahead inside the opening few minutes when Botes was sent clear on goal, but after a poor first touch his effort was saved by Wayne Sandilands.

Eleazar Rodgers should have put Sundowns ahead too as he found himself all alone at the near post from Samuel Julies' cross, but his header towards an empty net was high and wide.

Dikwena were in front on 14 minutes and it was all Sundowns' own doing. Esrom Nyandoro's first touch was terrible and Botes was allowed a free run on goal before emphatically burying his opportunity past Sandilands.

Rodgers almost restored parity with a fine 35-metre effort that was well saved by Siyabonga Mpontshane in the visitors' goal.

Stars felt they should have had a penalty when Thuso Phala was felled by Sandilands but was flagged offside. However, replays showed that the ball was played back by Sundowns defender Clayton Daniels, therefore playing Phala was onside.

The second half was disappointing and it took until 25 minutes in for the first real sight of goal, Masenamela shooting from range but Mpontshane made a comfortable save.

Substitute Anthony Laffor almost brought the home side level when his volley from Rodgers' flick went wide.

Nyandoro fired wide with a free-kick, while Nyasha Mushekwi could not get any power behind his shot.

Sundowns must have known it was not to be their evening when Rodgers' goal-bound effort was cleared off the line by substitute Enocent Mkhabela, ensuring the three points for Dikwena.

The problem with RSA is that they always point fingers at a coach. Neeskens has his own share of blame but the players really don't play like a team that wants to redeem themselves. I enjoy seeing Sundowns and OPFC lose but this aint funny anymore. Motsepe on the other hand doesn't seem to be really bothered. Imagine if this was KC or OPFC, tables would have been turned by now. Sundowns, I feel like Motsepe bought it to invade tax. This team has never made any profit, year in and year out of you thing about it. It augers well for Motsepe.... Maybe that's why Ubuntu is a Sundowns sponsor of which Motsepe kinda own it. We basically don't need this guy is our soccer. He has done a lotta damage already. He had promised to build players for Bafana, how many Sundowns fans are regulars at a national team level??? Sundowns fans have a right to be angry but they just miss the point somehow...

Sundowns' only achievement dis season will be their 4-1 win over the Mighty Amakhosi!! But every team goes through this kind of times they will bounce back bt it won't b easy coz their nxt 3 games r against Ajax, Rats, nd TUKS...so a change is needed sooner than l8er

Can the status quo remain untill we play them, just wait 3 weeks, then you can do whatever you want with the coach. Do you realise that Dunuza is fighting relegation?

Where is Thami Sangweni and Kekana in that midfield? Henyekane can do better on the left....Nyandoro must go back to Bulawayo.....if the Drunken master continues like this, he will cry when he meets the DTC.

Daniels is killing Sundowns at the back. That back four is leaking like a sieve. But then the strikers rae also not scoring. The last time Marikana Fc scored with ease was when Zothwane was still there and not injured. Somthing else is going on though, and i also suspect sabortage. Motsepe is a blind man.

What was Nyandoro doing? Wasn't it one of the signs that players have power?

It's not a joke anymore fellow football fans. This is an SOS situation, we need everyone to hold prayers. We can't have such an expensively assembled squad languishing at the bottom of the log. Look the likes of Wonder, Brazilliot and Sweyts have all disappeared from the forum and that's not what we need.

We need to show solidarity and support our fellows. However, I still maintain that the problem doesn't lie with Neeskens...I am not sure where's the problem but certainly not with Neeskens. They must use the break and do the intro.

Motsepe should not fire this coach so that he can take sundowns down to the NFD.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a serious note, Trott Moloto and his team must be fired. There are so many so called coaches or technical team at sundowns, so I think there is a huge, huge clash of ideas. Motsepe and his technical team are taking sundowns down to the NFD. Neeskens is a good coach and he knows football but the likes of Trott Moloto are backstabbers.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. You can show people the way to do things, but you can't force them to act.
Sunflower players r not playing as a team, and being too individual, you`re killing the team. anyway i`m not sure whether it`s according to coach`s instructions or management, but at the end favouritism is not working in real football, only gud perfomance can bring gud results.
