AmaZulu beat Moroka Swallows in Durban

Posted: 26 September 2012 Time: 20:26

AmaZulu claimed their first win - and scored their first goals - of the season as they came from behind to defeat Moroka Swallows 2-1.

Thokozani Mshengu scored in injury-time for the crucial win after Ayanda Dlamini had cancelled out David Mathebula’s opener.

The hosts missed a number of chances to take the lead as Ayanda Dlamini fired his shot over in the 12th minute, while Mbele saw his shot from a tight angle blocked by a good save from Greg Etafia.

Then in the 31st minute Philani Cele showed how dangerous he can be when pushing forward when he fired just wide after collecting a loose ball just outside the box.

Swallows’ first shot at goal came in the 35th minute when Felix Obada set the ball up for Giorgi Nergadze, but unlike in the MTN8 Final on Saturday, his shot went well over the target.

Then a minute later the Dube Birds punished the hosts for a lapse in concentration at the back as Mathebula placed his low shot past Philani Zikalala from the edge of the area.

Ayanda Dlamini sent his header straight to Etafia in the 51st minute, before Kagiso Senamela fired just wide a minute later.

Then Swallows were gifted a chance in the 56th minute when a mistake from Cele allowed Siyabonga Nomvete a clear sight of goal, but the veteran striker saw his strike parried away.

In the 65th minute Mbele fired his shot just wide of the post, before Marc van Heerden forced Etafia to punch his free-kick to safety.

However, Van Heerden tested Etafia from a more direct angle in the 74th and this time the experienced goalkeeper was unable to keep the ball in his gloves, allowing Dlamini to bury his follow-up shot.

And just when it looked like the two sides would have to settle for a share of the spoils, Usuthu grabbed their first win of the season when Mshengu beat Etafia with a left-footed curler.

I am saying it again, Swallows will be fighting relegation this season. They must ask Santos, that a fluke 3-0 win against the Galaxy does not mean you have won the league or you are staying in the elite league.

You can't change the winning combination Mr Zeca. It doesn't make any sense to start with unfit players like Nomvete and Mathebula, keeping Chabangu and Mahoota on the bench .Swallows were so terrible last night. Zeca kept Bhele for 90 mins and he is n't ready play the whole game. Obada must start on bench and is too relaxed. We should sign Mabalane to creat the competion among the wingers n. Makhanya and Machapa can't compete with Obada. PLEASE MR COACH !!! DON'T CHANGE THE WINNING TEAM AND ASK GORDON FOR AN ADVICE . UP THE BIRDS.

Some simple but amazing work from Actuarial Sciences students @ University of Pretoria

Chiefs wallop Usuthu 6-0
Swallows sodomizes Gorillas 3-0
Usuthu beats Swallows 2-1

Chiefs Results against Swallows & Pirates = (6 + 3 + 2 -1) / 2
=10/2
= 5

What this means is that between Swallows & Pirates fixtures Kaizer Chiefs will amass a total of 10 goals. A this point Orlando Pirates is a weakest link between those two meaning the ration of those goals might be 6:4. Meaning Kaizer Chiefs (6)- Orlando Pirates (0).....then Kaizer Chiefs (4) - Swallows (0).

NB: Dear OP sappota please do not try to crack your head by applying BODMAS rule to this equation , just look at the final result and use you fingers to count. Yes even Gorillas have 10 fingers so start counting.

@Vez'khanda, please calm down swaiman, we are not fifgting here. I really disagree with you we didnt have the best 11 on the day, there was no defence on the day only Luvhengo, who is also not perfoming these days. Da Costa, Isaac, Shere, please show me one defender here? Isaac, let us down when we were playing Sundowns and Mushwiki scored, SS united, Cale scored. Truth be told we had three 'match ufit' players on the lineup, Bhele, DVD, Da Costa. Why not signing Mjempu and Mabalane? However, still a Swayiman. Up The Birds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UP THE BIRDS. .................................................................................................................................................................................................. I am struggling to understand your comment Swai man....... What do you mean when you say makhanya and machapa can't compete with Obada?........Do you think Obada is better than Makhanya?.............. You got it wrong, Makhanya is far Better than Obada, it's just that our coach is as confused as you are for thinking Obada can do better than Makhanya..........Obada can play the whole game without delivering even one quality cross, I don't remember a single ball that came from Obada's foot to a team mate and was scored..........He can run like nobody's business but the fact is Obada does not have ball brains that's why He is ineffective. Makhanya can dribble and create goal scoring opportunities...what more do you want from the man? to do this sitting on the Bench?.......No Swaiman you must use your brain as well not to be carried away by a man's ineffective running on the field.........Do you call Mathebula and Nomvethe unfit players, You are confused and clearly don't know the talent lying on those two Heroes, Those a great players in that Swallows set up, Who scored the only goal for Swallows........Is it one of those so called match fit players?........Didn't Mashego and Chabangu Play last night? Didn't Mashego and Chabangu have enough time on the field to make an impact? I am dissapointed in you Swaiman........You thinking look blunt like that of Marques for thinking Obada is better than Makhanya............Didn't Makhanya create a goal for Nomvethe when He was introduced late against Ajax?........IF MATCH FITNESS WAS THE KEY TO BETTER PERFORMANCE IN FOOTBALL, SHERE LEKGOTHOANE would be doing wonders for the beautiful birds coz He plays each and every single game that Swallows plays YET HE IS STILL THE WORST COW IN THAT SWALLOWS SET UP........DVD IS A BRILLIANT PLAYMAKER COMPARED TO CHABANGU AND NOMVETHE IS A BRILLIANT STRIKER COMPARED TO MAHOOTA....................CHABANGU IS A BRILLIANT PLAYER COMPARED TO OBADA SO I WOULD SAY THE COACH SHOULD SACRIFICE OBADA FOR CHABANGU ON THE RIGHT WING FOR THE 1ST 11 AND IF MAKHANYA IS AVAILABLE, IT'S BETTER TO PLAY HIM ON THE RIGHT WING INSTEAD OF OBADA...........GOOD PLAYERS ARE THOSE WHO CAN CONTROLL THE BALL VERY WELL, DRIBLE AND CREATE SCORING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE TEAM NOT PLAYERS WHO JUST RUNS WITH THE BALL AND LOOSES IT OFTEN.................WE LOST THE GAME BECAUSE IT WAS NOT JUST OUR DAY BUT THE LINE UP WAS GOOD AND SUBSTITUTIONS WERE MADE IN TIME.....................DISSAPOINTED WITH RESULTS BUT I AM STILL A HAPPY AND PROUD SWAIMAN............THANKS COACH FOR BRINGING BACK DVD AND NOMVETHE.........THOSE ARE OUR UNDISPUTED HEROES.........CHENENE AND CHABANGU ARE JOINING IN IN THOSE GUYS' WORLD OF BRILLIANCE. UP THE BIRDS (THE LAST TEAM STANDING - WAFA WAFA)

@ Skepe Mketule................... I think they keep on playing Lekgothoane because there is no other left back in the team but His performance is always poor. If I were Marques I have long sifned Mjempu coz Lekgothoane was a regular bench warmer when mayinga was still around, meaning He is just an average player like the likes of maleka, Machapa and Cisse...........These Guys will only perform well on their Lucky day but most of the time they surely dissapoint............ Shere belongs to the bench, Swallows need a Left back who is going to Make a difference since Lekgothoane is proving by each and evry game that He plays that He is not a good Defender.

@ Gcina Mathaba............... I didn't say we had the best defence, it's a known fact that Da Costa and Shere are COWS, I still think the two do not deserve a salary for playing football.......... I still say having DVD and Nomvethe in that line up was the best thing ever...........this match fitness issue to me does not make sense coz these players practice daily preparing for the match.........saying a person is not match fit but having trained and not injured does not make sense............Shere Lekgothoane is a living proof that there is no such thing as match fitness..........a player is match fit when He is injury free and the rest will depend on his abilities.
