Match report: Orlando Pirates beat Ajax Cape Town 2-0

Posted: 25 September 2012 Time: 21:27

Ajax Cape Town, who have not beaten Orlando Pirates away since 2008, lost again on Tuesday evening.

Classy goals by Sifiso Myeni and Takesure Chinyama made coach Roger de Sa smile as Pirates took all the points off Ajax at Orlando Stadium.

De Sa started with Thulasizwe Mbuyane up front, supported by Myeni, Daine Klate and Tlou Segolela – three wingers in essence – which baffled commentators as to how they were going to line up.

But while Segolela was off form, Myeni – playing more through the middle – and Klate both fired and helped Bucs to the victory.

Myeni's goal came in the 55th minute and was a great piece of individual skill followed by an excellent strike.

Chinyama's goal came on the back of him being booed by sections of the crowd, even though he had only come on as a second-half substitute.

The big Zimbabwean quickly shut the fans up though, when he turned sharply and powered in a left footed drive in the dying seconds of the game.

The opening half lacked quality with both sides giving the ball away too easily.

But while the home side dominated, Ajax restricted Pirates to shooting from distance and each time Sander Westerveld came out on top.

Bucs should have gone ahead after 22 minutes when Segolela got into space behind the left-back, but while he did very well to go around Westerveld, he was off balance when he shot and Nazeer Allie got back to clear off the line.

At the start of the second half Ajax coach Maarten Stekelenburg made a change, bringing Lebogang Manyama on for the ineffective Keagan Dolly.

The match started to open up and Ajax went close when Allie got in a first-time shot at goal, which Moeneeb Josephs did very well to keep out at his near post.

Then in the 55th minute, the home side struck through Myeni's fantastic goal.

And in the 62nd minute, Bucs nearly scored again when Ajax skipper Granwald Scott lost the ball in a dangerous area and allowed Myeni to steal it and run at goal, but the experienced Westerveld made the save.

A minute later Sangweni, already on a yellow card for an earlier foul on Khama Billiat, fouled him again and was very lucky not to be sent for an early shower.

Substitute Chinyama then put the final nail in the coffin when he turned on the edge of the danger area and powerfully drove a left-footed shot past Westerveld.

how did Sangweni stay on the pitch for 90min?........

What an empty stadium....only 4523 supporters for a so called Biggest team.....
.....................................................................................................................................................

excuses are starting to roll.

Ashraf Hendricks of Swallows committed a foul while on yellow card but wasnt sent off, of course someone didnt see it as its only Pirates games that doomsayers are very much into , to an extent of thoroughly watching and analysing them.

What is PSL without Chiefs?

You obviously dont have stats for last season as Pirates were topping in attendance. FNB gets more fans ONLY when chips plays Pirates or fundowns, otherwise , when playing other teams numbers are below 10k.

.........................................................................................................................................................
Whats important to us is our team defending the treble. If Takesure or any player comes in and scores goals we are happy. Individuals dont surpass the team hence we dont care if Takesure is better or worse than any of his teammates but that the team defends treble. Myeni won numerous individual awards, which individual award has your Lebese won?

Was the ref worried that Ajax would have gone on to win the match 3-1 and that those 4000 plus barbarians in attendance will burn the stadium as they normally when jthey are massacred @ Orlando Stadium

Ashraf Hendricks of Swallows committed a foul while on yellow card on Saturday night but the ref didnt send him to the stands, nooone made noise about that. Folks are starting to panic , why wouldnt they when followed by DTCs?

You can see a star even if he does not score, I was suprise there were people booing Chinyama, then somebody reminded me not all people who go to the stadia are supporters of the clubs playing. Then I remembered the majority who broke and threw things at the pitch were not Bucs suporters but the Zebra supporters masquarading as Buccanneers, they are not shy to tell us they like our Adidas.

@Liesbeeck...panic is starting to set in Bhakaniya, these idiots know that they cannot afford to blink,Pirates have never relied on individuals, team spirit is the key, that is why we never won anything with individualistic players like Teko n Mashego,as for Chiefs ruling the PSL,someone need an injection,in the PSL era this thing (Chiefs)has been playing second fiddle to Sundowns,Pirates and SSU in terms of winning the championship, finishing outside the top 8 bracket on two occassions....they have a good record in the NSL owing to Abdul Bhamjhee's dodgy relationship with Kaizer.
