Match report: Orlando Pirates beat Ajax Cape Town 2-0

Posted: 25 September 2012 Time: 21:27

Ajax Cape Town, who have not beaten Orlando Pirates away since 2008, lost again on Tuesday evening.

Classy goals by Sifiso Myeni and Takesure Chinyama made coach Roger de Sa smile as Pirates took all the points off Ajax at Orlando Stadium.

De Sa started with Thulasizwe Mbuyane up front, supported by Myeni, Daine Klate and Tlou Segolela – three wingers in essence – which baffled commentators as to how they were going to line up.

But while Segolela was off form, Myeni – playing more through the middle – and Klate both fired and helped Bucs to the victory.

Myeni's goal came in the 55th minute and was a great piece of individual skill followed by an excellent strike.

Chinyama's goal came on the back of him being booed by sections of the crowd, even though he had only come on as a second-half substitute.

The big Zimbabwean quickly shut the fans up though, when he turned sharply and powered in a left footed drive in the dying seconds of the game.

The opening half lacked quality with both sides giving the ball away too easily.

But while the home side dominated, Ajax restricted Pirates to shooting from distance and each time Sander Westerveld came out on top.

Bucs should have gone ahead after 22 minutes when Segolela got into space behind the left-back, but while he did very well to go around Westerveld, he was off balance when he shot and Nazeer Allie got back to clear off the line.

At the start of the second half Ajax coach Maarten Stekelenburg made a change, bringing Lebogang Manyama on for the ineffective Keagan Dolly.

The match started to open up and Ajax went close when Allie got in a first-time shot at goal, which Moeneeb Josephs did very well to keep out at his near post.

Then in the 55th minute, the home side struck through Myeni's fantastic goal.

And in the 62nd minute, Bucs nearly scored again when Ajax skipper Granwald Scott lost the ball in a dangerous area and allowed Myeni to steal it and run at goal, but the experienced Westerveld made the save.

A minute later Sangweni, already on a yellow card for an earlier foul on Khama Billiat, fouled him again and was very lucky not to be sent for an early shower.

Substitute Chinyama then put the final nail in the coffin when he turned on the edge of the danger area and powerfully drove a left-footed shot past Westerveld.

I think we're yet to see the best of Chinyama as I believe more is coming! Myeni pure glass. Segolela and Klate good work rate boys! Jali and Manyisa = evergreen! Our defence was fantastic and Moneeb had nothing to do. The introduction of Ntsumayelo made me realise that Roger is reading the game very well. Buccaneers we have a good coach with no doubt, lets just support our technical team.

we warned pple about Sfiso "Razor Blade" Myessi skinning pple....they ddnt believe it, yet they believed Selina Dladla can run faster than the security guard wth the heavy gold and black kit bag full of gold n black penties in her hand....they are now eating a dried fruit

its very sad for the remaining teams, especialy monkeys from Nazoorena...Pirates "trebble my trebble" will defend their trebble....this means no cup for the remaining 15 teams....good news for Apes FC is that they stand a chance to participate in the cup for the animals, the new "POARCHERS CUP"....

the cup is dedicated to all monkeys who lost their lives during the 12 yrs ligue drought and also the now anticipated new record of 13 yrs of ligue drought....talking about breaking own records

SELINA DLADLA IS NOT YET OFF THE HOOK....FINGERSPRINTS ON THE RECOVERD THOUSANDS OF PENTIES MATCHES THOSE OF HER'S

What a dull game. Probably the dullest game of the season. Even the game between leopards and Maritzburg was much entertaining. Fortunately for the gorillas Ajax did not play at all. Meerkat was just on holiday. If they continue to field this team against formidable sides like Chiefs, they will be in for a big hiding

Sorry Chibuku fans to pee on your cake. Ajax are 3rd or 4th from the bottom and are notorious for being bad travelers. They are still to collect a point away from home. Let's wait and see if you will collect a point from Sewelele this coming weekend.

As for the Mighy Amakhosi it is just a question of how many goals we gonna score against Chippas United.

It was a rather boring game more so the first half.

Ajax shows that they miss the guidance of Foppe De Haan, now that coach was good for South African football.

I saw Eric Tinkler on the touch line calling the shots while Tebogo moloi trying desperately to sweat talk Roger de saster from Mozambique not to relegate him to development. This game cannot really tell us if Pirates really turned the corner cause Ajax was not at the game. The only thing u can write home abt this game r the goals. They were well taken goals. But at the same time we can still question the capabilities of Ajax goal minder. As for Sangweni he should have walked not once but twice. Thanx to the colonel Sangweni finished the game
