Match report: Kaizer Chiefs beat Black Leopards in replay

Posted: 19 September 2012 Time: 21:22

Black Leopards were handed their first defeat in the Premiership as Kaizer Chiefs went top of the table with a 2-1 win in a replayed match at Soccer City on Wednesday night.

Bernard Parker and Siphiwe Tshabalala scored a goal in each half for Amakhosi, while former Chiefs man Brian Amidu scored a consolation goal for Leopards in the final minute.

Chiefs dominated from the outset, and only for small period in the first half were they ever in danger of conceding. The visitors were a little lucky to escape with the concession of just two goals.

In the fourth minute, Siphiwe Tshabalala supplied a pin-point corner-kick to find the towering Tefu Mashamaite, but the defender's header bounced off the crossbar.

Eight minutes later George Lebese was pulled down in the box by Ernot Dzaga and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.

Parker stepped up and made no mistake, scoring his fifth goal of the season.

Chiefs seemed to relax a bit after going in front and Leopards managed to create a couple of chances of their own.

In the 20th minute some sloppy defending allowed Raymond Monama a free shot on the edge of the box but he fired inches wide.

In the 36th minute it took the heroics of Siboniso Gaxa to keep his side in the lead as he slid in front of a Rodney Ramagalela cross – had he missed, Thabo Mongalo would surely have tapped home from close range.

After that Chiefs took control of the game yet again and were dictating terms going into the break.

Chiefs created chance after chance in the second half, the first coming after some swift passing on the edge of the box, which resulted in Parker pulling a shot wide.

Eight minutes later Parker was in the thick of the action again, this time dribbling his way past the last defender on the edge of the box, but he failed to beat the keeper one-on-one.

Finally, in the 70th minute, Chiefs were able to find their second goal.

Tshabalala picked up ball on the edge of the box, dribbled past two players and then calmly passed the ball into the back of net.

Leopards tried to find their way back into the game and they created a nervous few minutes for Chiefs, and Amidu scored a minute from time. But it was too little too late for Lidoda Duvha as Chiefs walked away victorious.

We missed Nkosi today. Nkosi is 1 of the underrated player in our team but makes the team tick. And I believe we are yet to see his best. He plays with purpose and understand the quick passing game tutored by the english lecture.

Yes we won Makhosi and on the balance of play we fully deserved the 3 points becos we created far more chances than Leopards and we also dominated ball possession yet we could have easily drawn or even lost this match. In modern football there is such a fine line between winning and losing. I don,t think we played as well as we should. Our players gave away lots of possession. Dladla and Yeye were the main culprits. or me the big positive from this game was the sterling performance by Lebese.

.....and now that we didnt play that well I'm very sure that our performance against Wits will be first class. Thanks for the 3 points though.

Marikana 'Spinal Massacre' Gorillas fc should refrain from commenting on our matters...cause they still haven't scored any goal during open play for the last 5 matches this season & they needed a penalty to overcome a 10 men team, yet they claim to have depth in all departments... Yeah right?!!

& the only matches they've won recently were all under controversial circumstances & were reffed by one Zolile Mthetho... As u can see on the link below, the man is clearly benefiting something from The Sonono-Khoza corporation!!

I love stats... I win 6 cups in 2 years I have 75% chance of winning cups in a season. But those are the only cups I won in 8 years. If year 2000 is used, RatsHoles have only 9 cups in 12 seasons.Taking on average, more than a season without a cup.

When it suits them, history counts. How do you become the best with that poor stats?

Good progress Khosi...
