Andile Jali scores as Orlando Pirates beat Platinum Stars

Posted: 15 September 2012 Time: 17:12

Andile Jali scored the only goal of the game as Orlando Pirates ended their recent barren run with victory against Platinum Stars in Rustenburg.

Stars offered little and were stung by the early sending-off of Thabiso Semenya for deliberate handball.

The kick-off was delayed by 20 minutes while Pirates changed into their red away strip, having initially put on their home white kit that clashed with the socks of Stars.

And when the action did finally get under way, it was a cautious start from both sides.

The pivotal moment of the opening period came on 18 minutes when Semenya was shown a straight red as he blocked a through-ball with his arm.

Sifiso Myeni had a wonderful opportunity to give Bucs the lead when he found himself one-on-one with home Siyabonga Mpontshane, but the goalkeeper made a fine block.

Debutant Takesure Chinyama did not have the best of halves, putting a headed chance wide and then skying a shot from the edge of the area.

Pirates had the ball in the back of the net just seconds before the break, but Siyabonga Sangweni was adjudged to have been offside when replays showed that he was on.

Substitute Thulasizwe Mbuyane found himself free on goal just past the hour-mark, but could not beat Mpontshane with his low shot.

However, the goal did come with 20 minutes remaining. Pirates were awarded a penalty when Myeni’s cross struck Ntsikelelo Nyauza’s arm, leaving Jali to stroke home for their first goal in 450 minutes of football.

There were a few more chance towards the end of the match, but De Sa will be satisfied to emerge from his debut as Bucs coach with the three points.

I'm happy with the approach, I'm happy with the 3 man interchangable midfield...

Okonkwo really makes Jali & Ace look ordinary... goes to show how superior that 2004-2007 Dream Team was... But,

Ace is really going to finally reach SuperStardom under Rodger... that freeRole is going to terrorise...

Mabhakaniya we have a new coach, who only had 3 sessions with the team so please let's give him chance.
Some females were hammered in their first game with their fake coach. Its very dissapointing reading comments from my fellow Buccaneers critisizing a coach and players especially Chinyama.
According to my assessment he is gud and strong, he needs to combined well with his fellow team mates.
And labafazi need to know that two past seasons w won the league with these one nil.
So females go and kiss your Gay chairman

Pirates has the best midfield in the PSL. We can't just play two(Manyisa and Jali) in the middle of the park. I am happy to see 3 of them, and hopefully De Sa will be able to perfect the 4-3-3 system at Pirates.

I want us to be proudly South African in the sense that we play Viera, Jali, Manyisa, but I admit that Viera has no chance with Okonkwo there. That Nigerian has great vision and can make defense splitting passes. We will need him along side Jali and Manyisa. Our midfield will never be predictable anymore.

Our wingers must pull up their socks. They need to be clinical in their finishing. And their diagonal runs didn't impress me at all. If we can have 70 possession, then our forwards need to make those runs behind the defenders to create more scoring opportunities.

Takesure Chinyama must just relax. I sure a very good player there today with a deadly right foot. I just think he was nervous. I'm sure this player will make his mark in the PSL.

Our defense is looking good even though we have a self distracting bomb in the form of Mahamutsa. I have no complaints but just anticipating to see who will be playing in that defense should Jele be fit to play again.

There's much work to do. Our players must just work harder at practice and deliver the results we want them to deliver. I think we are organized in defense and in the middle. It is just our forwards that need to join the party now
