Moroka Swallows beat Orlando Pirates ion Saturday night

Posted: 1 September 2012 Time: 22:08

Orlando Pirates endured a miserable evening at the hands of Soweto rivals Moroka Swallows at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday night, succumbing 3-0 to lose their first League match of the season.

Bennett Chenene, Mpho Maleka and Katlego Mashego scored the goals for the Birds, who further underlined their credentials as genuine contenders for silverware this season with a clinical performance that coach Zeca Marques will be delighted with.

Both teams attacked strongly from the early stages, with Swallows forcing goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa into a good save on five minutes when a Lerato Chabangu free-kick threatened to drift into the back of the net.

Two minutes later Oupa Manyisa provided a superb through-ball to put Sifiso Myeni in on goal, but the winger hesitated just long enough to allow Shere Lekgothoane to get back and make a goal-saving challenge.

Former Buccaneer Bennett Chenene should have opened the scoring in the 19th minute, only to blaze a volley off target, but just two minutes later he combined superbly with Siyabonga Nomvete before stabbing a low shot into the net via the inside of the post to make it 1-0 to the Birds.

Just past the half hour mark Pirates through they had drawn level when a point-blank header from Collins Mbesuma was only half-saved by Mathibe, but referee Phillip Tinyani waved play-on. Television replays showed the ball hadn’t crossed the goal line.

The Birds were dealt a major blow at the same time when Nomvete limped off after twisting his ankle, forcing coach Zeca Marques to replace his ace goal-scorer with substitute Mpho Maleka.

Yet the replacement got his name onto the score sheet six minutes into the second half, firing the ball into the corner of the net after a brilliant turn and pass in the ‘D’ of Pirates’ box from Chabangu; 2-0 Swallows.

Pirates responded by using all three substitutions around the hour mark, and Daine Klate – one of the trio withdrawn – had two great chances in the 58th minute but on both occasions he saw his efforts saved by Mathibe.

Any hope Bucs had of mounting a comeback were extinguished when another former player, Katlego Mashego, scored within seconds of coming on as a sub, coolly controlling the ball in the box before turning and scoring.

It was a great game for swallows and I congratulate them while it was a very bad game for orlando pirates by losing with 3-0. We are very disappointed as the bucs fan.

I hear you champ, certainly don't agree with you at all. I would have preffered a more civil approach rather than attacking me, but nevertheless it is your own feelings and opinions that are not even carrying more wait than others. No matter how much you swear, it will not change the facts, that any coach who is not given a season to coach will never win a treble. It took Krol 36 months to do so and all I was saying is that whether is Palacious or whoever you want, none of them will win treble without being given a season to coach and therefore to think that Krol was better than Leal does not carry wait for me. He could have won t

He could have won the treble maybe within a season, nobody knows. We can work on assumptions or preferences for all we care.

Maybe if you convince me then I will or might see it differently and will still respect your views, but as for now I will stick to my story, no matter what you call it.

When Boa Morte said A.P. is not a coach, Buccaneurs said he is talking rubbish. Who can perform for someone who calls you "PSSSSTT" "Gorilla face". That is the fruit of your loud mouth Bucs fans. Enjoy your results. Khoza must relieve AP before they (Bucs fans) turn violent.

Bucs double treble has been through sheer hard work, sacrifice, compromise & patience amongst other things by all stakeholders & will take a lot to maintain or improve on that.It appears that everyone from management to players has put their foot off pedal. In my view players aint giving their all. Current coaches shortcomings have been badly exposed this past few games. My question to Management is what now, how did we come to this?
