Free State Stars and Kaizer Chiefs draw 0-0

Posted: 1 September 2012 Time: 16:54

Kaizer Chiefs and Free State Stars dropped their first points of the League campaign with a goalless draw on Saturday afternoon.

The match took place in extremely windy conditions at Charles Mopeli Stadium in QwaQwa, which made passing difficult.

From the outset it was clear that the Stars midfield were not going to give Chiefs any time on the ball as tackles came flying in thick and fast.

But despite the pressure Siyabonga Nkosi was able to fashion a chance, setting Kingston Nkhatha through on goal with a sublime pass. However, the Chiefs striker fired straight at the keeper.

Stars’ only real chance of the half came in the 33rd minute due to some sloppy marking at a corner-kick. The ball was whipped in and Paulus Masehe was able to rise above his marker to get his head on the ball, but luckily for Chiefs he headed wide from six-yards out.

Chiefs should really have taken the lead two minutes before the break when a Siphiwe Tshabalala corner found Mulomowandau Mathoho unmarked at the back post, but he also headed wide from about four yards out.

The second 45 saw Chiefs tire a bit and they struggled to create clear-cut chances. Stars, on the other hand, came into the game and while they could not break down the Chiefs defence, they did try their luck from long range on numerous occasions.

Ea Lla Koto’s best effort came in the 70th minute when Luyolo Nomandela let fly from 25 yards out, but Itumeleng Khune produced a great acrobatic save to deny him.

In the end neither side could break the deadlock as the teams shared the spoils, both dropping their first points of the league season.

Where was B Parker, had he played he promised to score regular after the game of Amazulu after he scored 4 goals forgeting that he played 26 games last season and he only managed to scored 4 goals. Now he has gone two games without scoring.

As a Khosi adent supporter, I must caution against being comfortable with a draw despite playing away. It's absolute nonsense, but with improvements in a few areas, we should come back to our winning ways sooner rather than later. My other observations on our game:

Chiefs attack was pathetic this game. Nkatha especially was poor. He would get the ball at his feet only to lose it about 2 seconds later. Nkosi, bar one great pass he mad to Nkatha, was as wasteful as always and from the first 15 minutes you could tell he wasn't going to have as big an impact as he did in the previous game. Why was Shabba once again so not in the game? He and Nkatha need to step it up and play for the team not as individuals, we'd be unstoppable if they do. We've seen better opportunities and goals when they do. Baloyi is a credible option and should be used to rest Nkosi when he tires like he did in the 2nd half or is he glorious to substitution?

I completely fail to understand why Chiefs decided to just short pass and short pass the ball back and forth in our own half. They weren't going anywhere, that much was absolutely clear. No one could get the ball in the box and hold it for a scoring chance. Heck, no one was IN the box. It was pathetic to watch. Mathoho thanks for trying to show the way at taking shorts.

Yes it was not a loss, however with the players and depth that we have, we expect nothing short of convincing win against teams such as Free State Stars.

We need more attack minded players in both wings of the field.

Mosixty..
I have just read your post of 07h57 and I agree 100% with you khosi, much respect..
Our coaching staff must also step it up. We should not be tolerating poor play by abo Nkosi until the end of the match when there is fresh talent on the bench. Players like Shabba and Nkosi need to know there is competition in the team. Or isn't there?
