Kaizer Chiefs beat Mamelodi Sundowns at Soccer City

Posted: 22 August 2012 Time: 21:20

Two goals in six minutes were enough to hand Kaizer Chiefs a 2-1 win against Mamelodi Sundowns at Soccer City on Wednesday night.

The Brazilians had thumped Chiefs 4-1 in the MTN8 earlier in the month, but Amakhosi bounced back in style for their second successive win in the League.

Chiefs were missing Morgan Gould, who ruptured his Achilles tendon a day before the game.

But his replacement, Tefu Mashamaite, came close to an early goal with a long-range shot that Wayne Sandilands saved.

In the ninth minute, Teko Modise played a one-two on the edge of the area and got in a decent shot, but Itumeleng Khune saved well.

And two minutes later Siyabonga Nkosi pulled the ball back to Kingston Nkhatha, who was in a very good position to shoot with Sandilands out of position, but the Sundowns defence just got back in time to get a block in.

Sundowns' best chance of the half came in the 16th minute when Modise let rip with a long-range effort, but Khune did really well to save it.

Elias Pelembe came very close in the 50th minute when he hit the upright with an attempt at the near post but, just two minutes later, Nkosi opened the scoring with a superb effort. He charged into the area and struck a low shot across goal and into the bottom corner.

Six minutes later Nkosi headed Siphiwe Tshabalala's deep corner back across goal for Nkhatha to nod home from close range.

Sundowns pulled one back in the 61st minute; Clayton Daniels' powerful drive rebounding off Khune and into the back of the net.

There were a few opportunities for either side to score more goals inside the final 15 minutes, but some excellent defending kept the scoreline at 2-1 to Chiefs.

PieRats can't win a game if the opposition can't concede a penalty. I now will call them ORLANDO PENALTY FC. They won Black Label on Penalties and they beat Celtic after conceding a Penalty.

They always shout to have quality in their team. Where were these Gorillas.

A good win for Chiefs last night. They had a few dangerous attacks in the first half, right through the middle with precision in passing. Sundowns left Edward isolated and only had position in their half. A lesson for Sundowns is that soccer is a team sport and not individuals. Teko and Pelembe must warm the bench, period.

Khosi I don't think either that we need a cover for a defense now because we can convert Gaxa to Central Defense if need arises and field Moleko or Tau when he's fully fit. instead of roping in another defender I think we should off load Zvasiya before the window period closes to allow him time to look for a new club.

The only person we need now is tha Rusike to stabilise and provide cover in attack. We are still going to play COWS like PieRats, facing Cows like Mahamutsa who are going to injure our attackers because of pressure so we will need some cover upfront.

Derrick spencer will be a liability, especially when you take into consideration the Legs. These small boys will run circles around him. I think we have enough Depth at the back. Jimmy Tau is on his way to recovery and he can provide that Cover.

It's too early to press panic buttons, we have SHAPE at the back and I don't think that we need any additions to the Back Line. And you forget that we still Moleko who has shown that he can RISE to the occasion.

We just need a Holding Midfielder and 1 Deadly Striker to complete our ALREADY DEADLY SQUAD!!

I stand to be corrected KHOSIS, please lets ENGAGE!!!

Kho6i don't you think with Gould out we will have to dzeal with Zvasiya if Tower or Mashamaite gets injured? Tau is a fullback, Moleko is a fullback, Gaxa is a fullback even though there is a rumour that he can play center back so definitely i think we will need another central defender for the next 4 or so months.

The season is in its infancy, various teams will inevitably experience 'slow' start while others will hit the ground running, others will start poorly & gain momentum as the season progresses. Thats normal in football. League race is a marathon, not 4by4 relay nor sprint & it makes no sense to make too much noise after meagre 2games, you rather take it game by game than "urasele abanye" as if your 2game performance won or guarantees you league title. Congratulations to all the teams that started well, lets hope they havent released all their 'stamina' as they will need it when it matters most. Next up is MTN8,in case folks forgot, some teams are already out. Let the games continue.

Eish Khosi'lam, you just reminded me of that Goat called Zva...

You have point there KHOSI, maybe we need to add a Cenral defender there, or maybe let me controversial and add that Burundian defender that we sold to a Belgium team!! I forget his name, but he can also be gooid in the Mix.

What do you think??

The result against FSS will give us an idea of how our team will fare this season, we have managed to contain attack minded teams(SignClowns and Amazulu) and now what's left is for us to see how we going to cope against defensive teams such as FSS, Gorilla fc and Platinum Stars...
-------------------
I fear we dont do good against defence-minded teams... look at our record against santos, fss, and the rest... i hope with Baxter that element of seriousness even in weaker unimportant games such as FSS and others works to our advantage... truth is all games are important becuase they have the equal potential of giving us the same amount of points-- 3 pts!

I siad after the MTN8 game against Chiefs Sundowns win was a fluke it was proven last night.I am saying now Sundowns is not going to win the MTN8 Cup even if they win against Swallows who ever wins on a Pirates vs Supersport game will be crown champions.Reasons Neeskens is poor at game planning and his tectical bankrupt when his plan A is not working. How long will it take him to realise that Sandilands is not dam good keeper? That poor boy Mabasa, Moriri,Pelembe and Laffor what impact do they bring on the team? Where are the two Ghanians that are recently signed or will it be the case of the 2 Nigerians that were signed last season and never made the starting 11? Really it was the curse to Sundowns to be own by Motsepe they are going no where.

Chiefs fans are hypocrites at their best: if a winner takes all then they would convince themselves that all the teams are the same while bona were whipped on the first game (first round): the truth is the semi finalists all have done their fans proud, management and all the shareholders: so chiefs and all those they were knocked out on the first round.....ARE NOTHING BUT A DISGRACE...
