Kaizer Chiefs beat Mamelodi Sundowns at Soccer City

Posted: 22 August 2012 Time: 21:20

Two goals in six minutes were enough to hand Kaizer Chiefs a 2-1 win against Mamelodi Sundowns at Soccer City on Wednesday night.

The Brazilians had thumped Chiefs 4-1 in the MTN8 earlier in the month, but Amakhosi bounced back in style for their second successive win in the League.

Chiefs were missing Morgan Gould, who ruptured his Achilles tendon a day before the game.

But his replacement, Tefu Mashamaite, came close to an early goal with a long-range shot that Wayne Sandilands saved.

In the ninth minute, Teko Modise played a one-two on the edge of the area and got in a decent shot, but Itumeleng Khune saved well.

And two minutes later Siyabonga Nkosi pulled the ball back to Kingston Nkhatha, who was in a very good position to shoot with Sandilands out of position, but the Sundowns defence just got back in time to get a block in.

Sundowns' best chance of the half came in the 16th minute when Modise let rip with a long-range effort, but Khune did really well to save it.

Elias Pelembe came very close in the 50th minute when he hit the upright with an attempt at the near post but, just two minutes later, Nkosi opened the scoring with a superb effort. He charged into the area and struck a low shot across goal and into the bottom corner.

Six minutes later Nkosi headed Siphiwe Tshabalala's deep corner back across goal for Nkhatha to nod home from close range.

Sundowns pulled one back in the 61st minute; Clayton Daniels' powerful drive rebounding off Khune and into the back of the net.

There were a few opportunities for either side to score more goals inside the final 15 minutes, but some excellent defending kept the scoreline at 2-1 to Chiefs.

it will take more than a 2-1 win to revenge a 4-1 lose in a cup knockout game.its a consolation.

I am a big supporter of Neskeens but i really think he has lost his map,THAT TEAM IS GOING NO WHERE SLOWLY.he sacrifises Kekani and Nyandoro for Moriri who has not kicked a ball for ages in a official match,Knowing very well that he is playing his slowest defence against a fastest striking Zebra force. He keeps Pelembe and Langerman who were clearly passengers in the game longer,Only until we have concidered goals does he substitute. We played Manqele as a lone striker but yet no one goes to the box to support when attacking.

@Reubs you are an idiot, three points are very important infact if it was not for Chiefs players wayward shooting, it could have been more. Whats the use of winning 4 - 1 through luck and you end up not winning the cup. Last season your stupid team beat an amateure team 24 -0 and people thought you will win the cup only to be embarrased by Supersport in the final. We all know that the 4 - 1 score line was not a true reflection of the game. Josta missed a penalty and Majoro had two one on one situation with Sandiland but he failed to punish your stupid team. You had five shots at goal that, four on target and one wide while KC have 8 shots in that game 6 on targets and they scored one and two went wide. KC have more quality this season than last season. They have a team full of Bafana Bafana internationals, every area has a quality cover player sitting on the bench. The performance if Sundowns in the last two games shows that they will struggle to be a quality team like KC.

We started the season by scoring 6 goals and now we have 6points and we scored two goals in this game within 6mins. That means we will win this League more than 6points.

Thanks my brother, my presumptions are not based on the 2 wins but the hunger of the players, coach attitude, management commitment and the zeal to win. I'm not saying we will win all the games but watch the coming games and come back to me my brother.

Khosi is rising higher and higher.
