Kaizer Chiefs beat Mamelodi Sundowns at Soccer City

Posted: 22 August 2012 Time: 21:20

Two goals in six minutes were enough to hand Kaizer Chiefs a 2-1 win against Mamelodi Sundowns at Soccer City on Wednesday night.

The Brazilians had thumped Chiefs 4-1 in the MTN8 earlier in the month, but Amakhosi bounced back in style for their second successive win in the League.

Chiefs were missing Morgan Gould, who ruptured his Achilles tendon a day before the game.

But his replacement, Tefu Mashamaite, came close to an early goal with a long-range shot that Wayne Sandilands saved.

In the ninth minute, Teko Modise played a one-two on the edge of the area and got in a decent shot, but Itumeleng Khune saved well.

And two minutes later Siyabonga Nkosi pulled the ball back to Kingston Nkhatha, who was in a very good position to shoot with Sandilands out of position, but the Sundowns defence just got back in time to get a block in.

Sundowns' best chance of the half came in the 16th minute when Modise let rip with a long-range effort, but Khune did really well to save it.

Elias Pelembe came very close in the 50th minute when he hit the upright with an attempt at the near post but, just two minutes later, Nkosi opened the scoring with a superb effort. He charged into the area and struck a low shot across goal and into the bottom corner.

Six minutes later Nkosi headed Siphiwe Tshabalala's deep corner back across goal for Nkhatha to nod home from close range.

Sundowns pulled one back in the 61st minute; Clayton Daniels' powerful drive rebounding off Khune and into the back of the net.

There were a few opportunities for either side to score more goals inside the final 15 minutes, but some excellent defending kept the scoreline at 2-1 to Chiefs.

lets wait and see how chiefs will win with the shaky defence towers. For Chiefs to win they must tighten defence not giving us movements in the middle cause there is someone called Cursed one in the middle of the park.I still say Manqele will make a miracle today scoring 3 goals others to take it from there

the good thing is we are scoring goals unlike some who will always play nil-nil draws unless they get fake penalties.

I see Manqele scoring lots of Goals tonight. That boy mavel to watch.

Chiefs defence was good that time of Sweswe and Punch.field Jambo today and you will play with 10 men.Pelepele will make him dance till he kick him or fake injury.

Chiefs fans can i comment, izolo i taught some of your bloggers what is an achievement.

Today we are going to differentiated between a quality side (Sundowns) and an average team (Chiefs).

Chiefs lack quality players, even the so called quality player like Shabba n Yeye are just ordinary players in Pirates and Sundowns standards.

YEYE relegated cosmos and Shabba failed trials in the 2nd division 2x.

Beating AmaNzula by 6 goals make them believe they can beat battalion of Sundowns stars.

Hlopho Keka will bulldoze the middlefield while Intsimbi encane aka Ntsinjana Sangweni will do his thing.

Sagweni is qaulity and Nkosi is a tired reject.

Downs is too predictable. Congratulations to Chiefs and I think that they wanted it more than we did. Credit should go to Teko, Josta, Mashamaite, Mabaso and Nkosi they played their hearts. Overall good game.

Congrats to our arch-rivals for a win tonight. I didn't watch both the games (the OP & KC) tonight but I don't think there is any need to press panic buttons. A draw away is not a bad result. I've seen how ssp play against the Mighty Buccaneers - negative football. However i'm not sure if it was the case tonight. What matters most is lifting those trophies at the end. Once and always a DTC. Since 1937
