Thulasizwe Mbuyane and Tlou Segolela handed Orlando Pirates the three points

Posted: 10 August 2012 Time: 22:17

A goal in each half from substitutes Thulasizwe Mbuyane and Tlou Segolela handed Orlando Pirates their first three points of the 2012/13 Premiership season as they beat Golden Arrows 2-1 at Orlando Stadium on Friday night.

In the 18th minute Arrows scored when Sifiso Myeni lost possession to Arrows captain Thanduyise Khuboni.

Khuboni then proceeded to drive forward and played Nkosinathi Ogle through on goal, but he saw his initial shot saved by Moeneeb Josephs.

The Buccaneers keeper, however, failed to hold the ball and Bongi Ntuli pounced on the rebound to score the first league goal of the season and give his side the lead from a couple of yards out, 1-0.

Pirates suffered a further set-back in the 24th minute when Ndumiso Mabena had to leave the field injured, suffering a hamstring injury and was replaced by Thulasizwe Mbuyane.

Still, despite losing one of their attackers the Buccaneers continued to push forward in search of the equaliser, one they found in the dying seconds of the half.

Myeni delivered a quick in-swinging corner and Mbuyane met it with a powerful header from six-yards out to level matters before the break, 1-1.

The second 45 minutes saw Pirates come out a different side as the controlled the match from the restart.

But still, despite their dominance in the second half, they didn’t seem able to create any clear cut-chances on goal.

Instead the games third goal, which came in the 78th minute, was a spectacular long-range shot from another Pirates substitute.

A long ball forward was headed into Tlou Segolela’s path by Benni McCarthy, the substitute then let rip from 24-yards out and his shot almost burst the net as it found its way into the top left-had corner, 2-1.

I just don't like this. Lackof creaticvity in the midfield;ust becuse Manyisa wasn't there. This is an eye opener for Bucs. We need more creativity in the midfield and more fire power up front. Tlou what a goal!!! Uyindoda ntwana yam. Chimps can only dream if da depth we have. Up da Spoki.

Manti Moholo is dangerous!!! I like! Phungwayo is pure class. Matlaba wants to steal Jele's position. We still had Gcaba on the bench. Jealous down Palacios did well. One star out another comes in! I am happy, we have depth. @Champ Superbrand, I understand the high expectations champ but lets just say its their first game together, after such an impressive performance they can only get better. Lastly These Chimps are so irritating! Look Archives FC, if u wana bring history onto our dominance pls dont tell us about quantiry of domestic cups. Pirates are on another level, we have two cup that none of 100 cups that u have will ever compare to. Come back when u have a Champions League and a Super Cup, u know like Barcelona Madrid Manchester AC Milan InterMilan!! Like Al Ahly, TP Mazembe ORLANDO PIRATES!!!! Not like Atletico Madrid and whatever other team in Africa that has won Mandela Cup! Please guys!!! U bringing a Toyota Tazz to a F1 race with that talk! Sies! Anyway, Bucs have started inkinga futhi. Ayeye.

Well done with a positive start and hope you keep winning because the way OP supporters comment here we might loose 99% of them if you start loosing. As for Amakhosi supporters you guys are the best 'cause no matter how you are insulted you still fill the stadium for that I salute you.

Clearly there is a lot you dont see during a match....never forget to use your third eye when wacthing a football match.......never let your love for Pirates blind you from reality or truth....learn to look at football from different angles.......Myeni is at a wrong team at this stage of his career..

Pirates fans stil don't understand that this is a RACE n what matters is 3 points. In a league game I don't care how we play, as long as we colllect maximum points. We are out to defend our Trophy n every 3 points is crucial. Thanks to Njenje n the Team for 3 points.

Oh and now u want to bring in crowd attendance? That was a healthy crowd. Do u know that Stadium Management(managers of FNB stadium, Orlando Stadium, VW Dobsonville stadium and Rand Stadium) gave some strong words to the Zebras renting FNB Stadium over poor crowd turnout last season? FOUR example a Category A match between Sundowns(4)-(1)Chiefs last season had a 12 000 crowd attendance! In essence they had an overall poor return on their agreement. Always remember as we were teaching u while growing up small boys that if u point 1 finger at some1-4 fingers are pointing back at u!!! Lol!!!

We do expect Bennie n Josephs to reprimand Myeni when he makes mistakes, he commes from a system at Wits where there was too much reliance on him, at Pirates we rely on teamwork n a effective system. Myeni must now realise that, there is less pressure now, players surrounding him are equally capable . No one is out to destroy his soccer.
