Thulasizwe Mbuyane and Tlou Segolela handed Orlando Pirates the three points

Posted: 10 August 2012 Time: 22:17

A goal in each half from substitutes Thulasizwe Mbuyane and Tlou Segolela handed Orlando Pirates their first three points of the 2012/13 Premiership season as they beat Golden Arrows 2-1 at Orlando Stadium on Friday night.

In the 18th minute Arrows scored when Sifiso Myeni lost possession to Arrows captain Thanduyise Khuboni.

Khuboni then proceeded to drive forward and played Nkosinathi Ogle through on goal, but he saw his initial shot saved by Moeneeb Josephs.

The Buccaneers keeper, however, failed to hold the ball and Bongi Ntuli pounced on the rebound to score the first league goal of the season and give his side the lead from a couple of yards out, 1-0.

Pirates suffered a further set-back in the 24th minute when Ndumiso Mabena had to leave the field injured, suffering a hamstring injury and was replaced by Thulasizwe Mbuyane.

Still, despite losing one of their attackers the Buccaneers continued to push forward in search of the equaliser, one they found in the dying seconds of the half.

Myeni delivered a quick in-swinging corner and Mbuyane met it with a powerful header from six-yards out to level matters before the break, 1-1.

The second 45 minutes saw Pirates come out a different side as the controlled the match from the restart.

But still, despite their dominance in the second half, they didn’t seem able to create any clear cut-chances on goal.

Instead the games third goal, which came in the 78th minute, was a spectacular long-range shot from another Pirates substitute.

A long ball forward was headed into Tlou Segolela’s path by Benni McCarthy, the substitute then let rip from 24-yards out and his shot almost burst the net as it found its way into the top left-had corner, 2-1.

Jali was wasteful today with his passes and evwn chances he got to score. The positive thing is that atleast he was attacking.

@Champ "Superbrand"
I think Now were are starting to shift from the Krol football era where both our central middlefielders were not given enough freedom to attack.

Pirates will follow footsteps of Sundowns finishing the season with the caretaker coaches for two years in a raw,its obvious Palacious would be relieved off his duties come 3'rd qauter of the season and be replaced by the big fan of Khoza Pitso Mosemane and from there Bennie will hang up his boots.Honest I do not see Palacious making up to 15 games on league.

Champs, lets be analytical and critical of our team in other words lets talk Pirates and those flapping their wings continue doing just that because they'll never fly!

This was one of the toughest games and i am happy that we came out victorious considering that this was our first game and against a team that has not beaten us in seven league games, i thought that our defense was at times frantic and jittery we barring Matlaba and Phungwayo they had a stupendous game, our midfield was not cohesive and i think Jali should have been substituted just to make him aware that he is not indispensable and Klate's decision making was non existent as well as Myeni but the latter a player to watch this season! winning this game was big moral booster for us and i hope that the coach introduces Takesure very soon and not leave him out like they did Otorogu because we really need a player that's going to feed off McCarthy.

I am a champ because i support champions!

A team that has won a championship back to back should be able to at least fill up half of their home stadium.

@BucBenzo,

Good analysis. Benni Mabena combination wil nt work. Lets see what takesure cn do. our wingbacks were only good going forward but exposed the centerbacks badly. I agree Jali was dissapointing today. Its for the first time ever I felt he should b substituded. Myeni needs to b arrogant, I know he is far better than what he is offering. I am afraid he wil find himself on the bench.
