Sundowns beat Powerlines 24-0!!

Posted: 4 March 2012 Time: 17:30

Mamelodi Sundowns set a new South African scoring record on Sunday afternoon after beating Powerlines FC 24-0 in a Nedbank Cup last 32 match.

AmaZulu held the previous record of 16-0, beating Bizana Lucky Stars 36 years ago, but The Brazilians demolished that in Kimberley.

Sundowns’ destroyer-in-chief on the day was Hlompho Kekana, who netted seven times, while Nyasha Mushekwi scored six times and Richard Henyekane five.

Sundowns capitalised from poor defending early on when Sibusiso Zwane pulled the ball back in from the right side and Kekana struck the ball into the crossbar before it bounced into the net.

In the 12th minute, Mushekwi miscued his effort when he was through on goal and one-on-one with the keeper, but Richard Henyekanye picked up the ball to make it 2-0.

Three minutes later Kekana got his second of the match when he beat the off side trap from a Method Mwanjale through ball and he coolly slotted home.

In the 20th minute it was 4-0 when Doctor Mampuru played a low cross from the right side flank and Henyekanye blasted the ball into the net from six-yards out. Four minutes later it was 5-0 when Mushekwi exquisitely finished inside the box.

On the half-hour mark Kekana got his hat-trick when Mampuru crossed from the right flank and he slotted home.

In the 41st minute, Mampuru was once again at it on the right wing when he set up Mushekwi and the Zimbabwean striker easily slotted home from six-yards out to make it 7-0.

Two minutes later, Mushekwi got his hat-trick when Henyekanye broke loose on the left side and teed up Mushekwi, who miscued his effort but that resulted in the ball chipping over the keeper for 8-0.

On the stroke of half time, Mushekwi grabbed his fourth he lurched onto a rebound from near the goalline after the Powerlines ‘keeper had saved a Pelembe shot to take the score into double figures, 10-0 heading into half time.

Three minutes after the break, Kekana made it 11-0 when he hit a ferocious shot from the edge of the box which left the ‘keeper wrong footed.

Mushekwi got half a dozen goals in the match when Pelembe set him up to slot into an empty net after 52 minutes, 12-0.

Samuel Julies made it 13-0 when he chipped the keeper to score on his debut. Henyekane then picked up his hat-trick to make it 14-0.

It was 15-0 on the hour mark when Kekana struck from six-yards out with only the ‘keeper to beat.

Pelembe then got into the action when his effort went in from the inside of the cross bar to make it 16-0. He was again at it when he grabbed his second to make it 17-0.

With 20minutes left, Sundowns made it 18-0 when Lebohang Mokoena, who had just came in as a substitute, condemned Thabang Louw to more misery when he picked up the ball out of his net for the 18th time in the match.

Henyekanye made it 19-0 in the 74th minute and he was soon at it a minute later when he made it 20-0.

Local boy Julies scored his second of the afternoon, to make it 21-0 in the 76th minute and two minutes later Kekana grabbed his sixth to make it 22-0. He then grabbed his seventh two minutes later to make it 23-0.

The match eventually got its last goal when Mokoena tapped in a simple effort form six yards to make it 24-0.

@ Daniel I smell a rat also. With Mushekwi nd mwanjali who r notorius with match fixing, anything is possible. Psl must work hand in hand with Zimbabwean FA. I hear some book maker in Asia won a lot of money today by predicting the score correctly 24-0

I always used to hear some Bloggers saying SA celebrate mediocrity and I have neva believe this till 2day! Sundowns supporters what did u real expect the score to be? A draw? This is a shame to S.African football, what does this say about our standard?
Take any team from psl(don’t 4get u recently played a goalless draw with Cosmos) and see if u can score those goals against them b4 u start making a noise. You will be eliminated in the next round, and d only team dat will be remembered are the champs.

Master jealousy is a very bad distraction to growth n objectivity. I am a sundowns supporter n ddnt make noise bwt d game. I complained bwt Mshekwi's poor finishing while commending our young Julies. Every game shud b taken seriously n s a lesson for d future. If u watched d game u wud hv seen dat sundowns approched d game like any ada big game n gt desired result while maintaining thr discipline. Ur hatred for d team is handicapping ur vision n objectivity. Do u think we shud b gr8ful to see minnows knocking out big teams? Dd u think of wat dat does to our reputation s a country? Dd u ask urself y sa players r nt sought abroad? We do nt nid selfish n narrow minded ppl like u in our beautiful sport.

Godfada, we've scored more goals than Pirates all season, in one game. 10 goals before 'change' has never happened at Orlando, even during a practice match it just ca'nt happen.

Dankie it was Downs, if it was Chiefs I can imagine Majoro running out of slogans on the vest within the first 15minutes......1st goal = I have another set of ball's.
2nd Goal = I have amashishi.
3rd Goal = Ngine 4-5.
4th Goal = Ngiphuma entabeni! Lol.

jus bcos sweswe get R4500 per annum, a R200 hospital, life n mortuary cover, 50kg of mill rice, 50kg samp, 50kg mealie meal, a card for 20 skopo se ngulube per month, pep vouchers, kaizer buy R12 vodacom airtime n give him free minutes n wash 1400 bakkie on weekends does not mean we must exploit him

wat i dont undastand is dat de minute yellow heard that sithole was investigated, they run to sign him...

the question sundownz fans is: sundownz is falling apart, which team do i join between de 3 soweto giants and mazion from ur area....if ur carefull ull realise dat 1 of dose teamz is capable of winning all de trophies

gud lucky on ur choice, dnt let elders to choose for u. chiefs fans are now angry wth their mothers

Downs is causing pain to a lot of fools, you can tell by the amount of jealous and bile spewed here. Look at this guy called Master, he is confused and clutching at straws, he doesn't know whether he is coming or going. What's there not to celebrate about setting a record? Get over yourself chief and accept reality, Downs sets the trend and your team will have to try and better that. You have a short memory span, did we not see one so-called Soweto giant falling to a ammeter team from Limpopo? Don't behave like that lunatic called Godfrey chief, sober up. KBY!!!!
