Kaizer Chiefs beat Cape Town All Stars in the Nedbank Cup

Posted: 3 March 2012 Time: 22:21

Kaizer Chiefs beat Cape Town All Stars 3-0 in the Nedbank Cup last 32 on Saturday night at the FNB Stadium.

The All Stars gave a good account of themselves and frustrated the Soweto Giants for large parts of the game, but in the end the Phefeni Glamour Boys proved to be too good for the Vodacom League side and stamped on their Nedbank Cup dreams.

A goal in the first half from Lucky Baloyi and two in the second half from substitutes Lucky Khune and Lehlohonolo Majoro was enough to see Chiefs to a convincing victory, at least in the eyes of the fans.

The first half saw the Amakhosi with 80 percent of the possession and seemed able to cut through the All Stars defence almost at ease.

Bernard Parker came close to opening the scoring in the 11th minute. Parker found himself in good position in the middle of the box, but his headed attempt from ten-yards out sailed over the crossbar.

In the 26th minute Chiefs managed to capitalise on their dominance when Baloyi found the back of the net with a 22-yard peach of a goal.

Balyoi ran onto a ball outside the area and his fierce volley had the beating of Wesley Fransman in the Stars goal, striking the post on the way in to make it 1-0.

The rest of the half saw Chiefs squander numerous chances in front of goal with Parker and Kaizer Motaung Jnr the main culprits.

The second half certainly saw the Cape side looking more enterprising as they pressed forward, but they struggled to break down a resolute Chiefs defence.

The Amakhosi withstood the early pressure in the second half and then started playing some eye-catching football.

In the 69th minute Chiefs finally found their second goal as Majoro broke down the left and supplied a pin-point cross to find Lucky Khune unmarked inside the box. The striker took his chance with a well-placed header from six-yards out, 2-0.

Two minutes later and it was the turn of Major to find the back of the net as he capitalised on a mistake by the All Stars’ goalie.

Fransman passed the ball straight to Majoro who didn’t need a second invitation to drive toward goal and slip the ball past a stranded goalkeeper, 3-0, sealing Chiefs place into the last 16 of the competition.

Chiefs: I. Khune; Tau, Ritchie, Zvasiya, Sweswe, Katsande, Baloyi, Lebese, Masango (MAteba 73’), Parker (L. Khune 64’), Motaung Jnr (Majoro 64’)

All Stars: Fransman, Davids, Trouncelle, Kondeleke, Mazibuko, Jacobs (Bronnkhorst 75’), Nongwele (Mrwebi 58’), Ncaca, Saal, Niyane (Mhambi 61’), Fransch

We might have won the game but it was a boring one. Masango, Lebese are yoyos, today they play well, next they play like they are hungry.

I was impressed with KM7, Baloyi, Majoro(he brought life to the game) and Richie. Remember the first goal against Swallows, Ritchie was the brain behind that goal. I lil bit of continuity and consistency will yield good results.

We don't go to the stadiums because of foreign coach, players and poor performance.
I think Chiefs have lost its identity. I don't want us to win any Cup this season until the coach leave and our development structure is re-opened. Let's get a local coach to bring back the glory days.

@ Maphuti.....I don't see my team reaching the semis. About the league .....I don't even worry about that becuase our current crop is capable for Top 8 not championship.

I love my team but sad that the Bobby thinks we have quality in our team. I'm also dissapointed becuase Kaizer Srn Motaung is not saying/doing anything this low stardand of football Chiefs display. I'm not gonna be blinded by last night victory or 2nd position on the table. This is not convincing and some of us(Chiefs fans) don't see that.

A team that cannot win 3 games in a row ? Mina I'll never waste my oxygen about Nedbank and the League . Perhaps I can talk about the league for 2012/13 season . This season maybe Sundowns or SSU .

Our team is so disappointing in most cases, we alwayas LOOSE or DRAW games without reasons. We won the game but it wasn't easy n u ask yoslf Y as we were playing amateurs. I'm just hoping for the best but my favourite team "Amakhosi" is full of disappointing suprises.

We are currently subjected to Bobby FC/VV FC, what happened to Kaizer Chiefs FC? Ofcoz the said part being Kaizer Snr watching his son ripping his legacy apart, piece by piece. I can only hope He(Kaizer Snr) has a formidable plan for next season. If nothing is done, they'll play in empty stadiums.

That's a thing Khosi, Nale is rusty, we saw that with KM7 yesterday but he tried. Against Swallows, I was sitting just behind the Chiefs' bench, we shouted "Nale, Nale" untill the bigheaded VV put him in.

Its Kaizer Chiefs we are talking about with a sydrome of choking to lower leagues teams.

Congratulations to Cape Town All Stars for advancing to the next round

Good bye to VV and more misery for Bobby's dogs.

Where is this idiot King? I have't heard a thing from him the whole weekend. Pierats fans are fools. What happened to Pierats's goal of conquering Africa? The galaxy of cows embarassed SA by being eliminated in the Preliminary stages of the CAF Champions league by an unkown Angolan team. Do you reaaly think Pierats can win against the likes of TP Mazembe, Esperance, Al Alhy, Zamalek, Africa Sports etc?
