Chiefs and Sundowns draw

Posted: 14 November 2007 Time: 22:13

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns drew 0-0 in an exciting Absa Premier League encounter at the Absa Stadium in Durban on Wednesday night.

The match was fairly even throughout with very few clear-cut scoring opportunities.

Late in the second half Chiefs looked the fresher of the sides but were not able to really trouble the Sundowns goal.

In the 13th minute Sundowns’ Lerato Chabangu shot well wide from long-range.

Cyril Nzama passed the ball a long way up field which found Shaun Bartlett but he hammered his left-footed shot past the post in the 20th minute.

Seven minutes later Esrom Nyandoro’s long-range shot went well wide.

Chabangu took a shot from outside the box in the 40th minute but it was easily saved by keeper Itumeleng Khune.

The sides went in at the break with the score remaining goalless.

In the 72nd minute Brian Baloyi had to make his first stop of the game when a pass down the middle found a running Kaizer Motaung Jnr, who ran into the box with the ball but was denied by an out rushing Baloyi.

Surprise Moriri had a great scoring opportunity when Jorge Acuña passed the ball from the left side to him unmarked in the area; Moriri hit his shot wide but should have done better.

Moriri had an opportunity five minutes later but hammered his shot straight at the keeper.

In the end a draw was probably a fair result.

I agree fully with Kabelo and Colin that Apataki is not a Sundowns material, the guy (with due respect)is useless. He does score vital goals, even against Free State Stars last week (though the ball hit him)but truth be said he is not a quality striker. We have quality players in Lungisane, Shakes and Arendse but the coach keeps on benching them, for reasons known to him and the technical staff. Even if he plays them, they play out of position (except Lungi). In past soccer laduma papers the guys have mentioned time and time again that they are ready to play, they are fit and working hard for a place in the starting line-up, but they are not fielded. It is clear that the coach has his favourates in the team, whether he likes it or not.

it is a high time that chiefs coach must start using a different approach for the upcoming games because the current one is annoying me.
Introduction of Scara as a playmaker will be the best I think Sibeko is failing to feed the strikers up there and by the fact that we are using a lone striker than needs a brilliant playaker like Scara to go through.

Mushin can you please stop this nonsense of playing with one striker this system is not offensive, rather field 3 strikers at the same time only God knows why you hate Scara & Gert so much - because we clearly need them.
As for you Gordon could you please start to promote local players, Ndlela was in the National team for a reason and also Ngwenya will never fullfil his potential while sitting on the bench we need entertainment chef.

I hope Mushin's tactics are not leading us to last season's spot on the league like did Ernst "lose and draw". We miss the likes of ngobese because of your presence.

I so happy to see both chiefs & Downs supporters congratulating players irrespective of what team they support. I hope they continue doing that as it will pump the players to perform with more confidence unlike destroying our own talents. As for Scara, Gert, Ndlela & Shakes we hope one day these coaches will give chance that you deserve pls keep on working even harder.

the game was good old boring italian classic, both teams were very defensive; as a chiefs fan, Sundowns were playing with ten men, b'cse Apataki was simply useless(where is Ndlela/Shakes).

again Mushin, why one striker? i wish he could try the three striker combination of Bartlet, K jnr & Mabhuti. this strike force nearly banged 4 to 5 goals in extra time only against Swallows, y not again.

i think Tinashe also needs to sit down, so we can try spencer in de center of de park. de man can win the bal, but yet gives it away.Y?Y?Y?Y?

One of the worst games i've seen in a long time. For the first time i was convinced that chabangu is wasteful and selfish player. I always thought he is ready for the national team, but i was wrong. The guy has so many weaknesses in him. Can somebody pls tell me what carelse strong point is?

i think Mr Ertugral must try Tshabalala as a playmaker, have kaizer jurnior on the left wing, and with DVD back at training we should'nt have a problem on the right wing. Come December the 1st, we'll be a force to reckon with!

I think chiefs still lack finishing, and the middle field was a bit shaky couldn't win lots of balls as sundowns players were always unmarked at first half. I also think that now it's high time for etugral to introduce young strikers with energy and reinstatement of ngobese in the middle of the park. It's also an opportune time for bartlett to call it a day. Overall the game was excellent with lots of fire works but lacks goals.

Well they just played, well done Acuna you play top claas football, Phala must be given more game time, Baloyi & Khune were excellent, game was boring, Sundows players being afraid to play towards the end of game what a shame, Chiefs also looked better on second half, both teams played badly.....
