Moroka Swallows beat Mamelodi Sundowns in the Telkom Knockout Cup

Posted: 22 October 2011 Time: 21:59

Moroka Swallows beat Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 in the Telkom Knockout Cup at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday night.

The Swallows goals were scored by Lefa Tsutsulupa, Lerato Chabangu and Siyabonga Nomvete.

The win came on the back of three goalkeeper errors from Sundowns’ Calvin Marlin, recalled to the side for this match after having played just one competitive match in the past 12 months.

Sundowns had the first chance of the game as the excellent Greg Etafia saved at the feet of Katlego Mphela as the visitors began the match the brighter of the two sides.

The home team might have been ahead on 29 minutes, though, as Chabangu’s free-kick flashed across the Sundowns goal, with none of the three Swallows players on hand able to get a decisive touch to turn the ball into the back of the net.

The Birds were ahead on 37 minutes though as Tsutsulupa collected the ball on his chest, allowed it to drop and hit a powerful shot on the volley. It was straight at Marlin, but the keeper seemed slow to react and the ball squirmed under his body and into the net.

Elias Pelembe might have leveled for Down when he found himself one-on-one with Etafia, but the Nigerian saved. The keeper lost sight of the ball though and Pelembe stabbed the rebound goalwards, only to see his trickling effort cleared off the line.

Hlompho Kekana then wasted an excellent effort to draw Sundowns level when he fired wide from close range, and the visitors were made to pay after another calamitous goal.

The corner was floated to the back post, Marlin came for it but was beaten in the flight and Chabangu provided a neat finish that served as a reminder of his quality.

And it was 3-0 when substitute Oscar Machapa shot straight at Marlin, the goalkeeper spilled the ball and Nomvete was on hand to react quickest to the loose ball and net his fifth goal in four games.

This is pathetik n unacceptable...never ever play marlin, screw bieng rusty he has always bin a liability.

Hi Masandawane, in the near future, you must never try to kill the Bird at its own nest because it will bite back horrible wounds!

Legodi is part of decimal peformance, he never liked Pattison at all. Remember the time he was joint caretaker coach, they hardly played. Our midfield was depleted. The less is talked about Teko the better and rusty Marlin was far more worse.

Heheh!! Bakwatile shame abangane bethu!this is going to be the story of ur lives! My advice to you:
1. Fire the coach he is clueless
2. Fire the manager, he is the cause of the failure of ur coaches
3. Fire the president, he hs no clue of hw to run a soccer team all he does is flaunt his big monies and forgets tht he needs a strong soccer administrators like Nastascha Tschiclas to manage the footballing business affairs
If you havent got guts to do this I foresee Sunclowns making us laugh more than Bobo the Clown!
Bhakajuju like nobody's business!

Well done Maswai Swai. It was a sweat revenge by the Birds.

Sundown's goalkeeping department is a mess. Remember the same Sandilands is even worse. Maybe contact Bobby for T. Ngobeni, he is better than Marlin and Wayne combined. And as for Mwanjali, how he became a captain of Sundown I don't know. The guy is just ordinary.

To the coach, Teko was nowhere in the game but he played 90mints. Is Nyatama injured?

Good luck to my Glamorous Boys tomorrow, let's show them how the visitor do it

Today I witnessed the death of Sunflops. The Sunflops will be at Chlorokop, even though the came after they were killed by Birds when they tried to invade the nest at Dobsonville. Unfortunately the Birds were well armed!

Ay, vele we never stood a chance tonight it just never was gonna happen.

Well done to Gordon and his Birds, all the best going forward Swai-swai!

Masandawana, Neeskens needs atleast another two seasons or so for some more trial and error, he's clearly a slow learner so let's brace ourselves for more misery before it gets better. Ka bo yel.nx!.....ka-masepa! mh.

The Swallows coach said after the game * he told Nergadze to go and marshall Teko Modise, he said only nine players in the field must play, Nergadze must not play except to tight mark Teko, the plan worked. The Sundowns coach said Nomvethe must be tight marked, but unfortunately they 4got Tsutsulupa and Lerato Chabangu. Eventually after tht they let Nomvethe loose, and he scored his first chance!
