Nine-man Swallows down Chiefs

Posted: 7 November 2007 Time: 22:03

Moroka Swallows beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in an Absa Premier League encounter played at the Absa Stadium in Durban on Wednesday night.

The Swallows goals were scored by Sandile Ndlovu and Bevan Fransman, while Shaun Bartlett scored for Chiefs.

The visitors were down to nine men in the second half when they had both Japhet Zwane and Fransman sent off by referee Ace Ngcobo.

The visitors deserved the win simply because they had the better scoring opportunities and looked the more likely to score for most of the match.

In the 19th minute Sibusiso Themba had his shot saved by Chiefs’ keeper Itumeleng Khune.

Swallows had a great chance to take the lead in the 23rd minute when a cross from Zwane found Sandile Ndlovu in the box in a great scoring position, but instead of burying the ball in the back of the net he hammered it over the bar.

Khune was again on hand to deny Swallows when he made a save from a James Chamanga shot in the 34th minute.

Ndlovu again found himself in a great goal scoring position inside the box in the 41st minute, but was denied by a great tackle by Fabian McCarthy.

Zwane hammered a cross into the area which was spectacularly punched out by Khune just before the break to keep the score goalless.

Fransman hammered a long range shot well over the bar just after the break.

Three minutes later Swallows took the lead when a cross found Chamanga on the right just inside the 18-yard area, he passed the ball to Ndlovu, who scored with a tap-in.

In the 54th minute Swallows scored again when the ball was lobbed into the area from the middle by Zwane and Fransman ran forward and got a boot to the ball before Khune could reach it to score.

Chiefs pulled a goal back in the 74th minute when Bartlett scored with a header from a low cross by Jimmy Tau from the right.

In the 81st minute Swallows were down to 10-men when the referee red-carded Japhet Zwane for a dangerous tackle on Jimmy Tau.

Mabhuti Khanyeza missed a great opportunity from about 10-yards out when he hammered his left-footed shot wide after Bartlett headed the ball to him in the 88th minute.

Thuso Phala nearly grabbed the equalizer two minutes later when his shot flew narrowly over the bar from inside the box.

In the 94th minute Swallows were down to 9-men when the referee sent Fransman to the stands for an off the ball incident.

But Swallows held on to get a well-deserved win.

Swallows played well yesterday, they knew exactly what they needed to do on the day.I'm so sorry to say this, but KChiefs won't win the league this year and it will even be difficult to reach the top eight.Mushin Ertugral has always been known for getting the only positive results in a game by having a draw or 1-0 loss.Idon't see him doing any changes. My question " Will Chiefs ever get a choach who can win both the League and Cups comfortable be the undisputed Champs

Ntsieni Godfrey-its good to see young & african coaches doing so well, but my advice to mushin, technical team & players is,the only way to catch the birds the nine birds is to clip the wings not to irritate them so that they can get a red cards, kgo thata banna

There is nothing sweeter for a pirates victory, than when chiefs loose on the other hand.

Well done Birds what a display, as for Chiefs they loose too much possesion in middle, also lack somebody to take responsibility & control the game, not too many crosses are being swung into 18 yard area, Tau is trying his best, as for MCCARTHY he has not clicked well with Tsotetsi, too many holes are left when our wingbakcs attack, still room for improvement...

I am puzzled about the strategy that our coach is using. How can he leave Kaizer Junior and Tshabalala in this crucila game?? This is injustice to us as supporters who travelled far to see this kind of perfomance and poor strategy by our coach. watch the space, the clock is ticking for Mushin to leave. Please, Mr Chairman -intervene because our boat is sinking in front of you.

Hayi Chiefs madoda!!!This pain is now becoming unbearable, I can't face competition. The question is for how long must we suffer like this? We dont have to win every game, I undertstand, but that doesn't mean have to loose/draw every game either. Is our chairman and manager losing their touch in running this team as a formidable side that we used to know?

i just can't understand Y coaches in PSL temper with a winning combination. diski is like a band, when U play de music, de instru'nt shld complement each other and carry the same momentum till the end of the song.

Y did Mushin change FS stars combination? de players were still hot from dat game, Y not allow de same team carry the momentum through de next game. how do U drop Mooki? how do you play 5 natural defender and hope to score?

Sicelo - Kaizer, Bobby and Muhsin must drop their skinking pride and recall Scara and Gert to the team. Tinashe is working alone in the midfield, Sibeko is dead so as Arthur. Chiefs can't expect to win the league with only 3 strikers, they must get 1 or 2 strikers. Our coach must learn to take each and every game seriously. Nomatter what I will always be a (Khosi 4 Life)

Chiefs did not play like a club wanting to win the league. The players need to apply themselves more. This inconsistency is not acceptable. As a club wanting to win the league yuo must win at least 60% of yuor games, not 25%. This diabolical performence will not win them anything.
