Moroka Swallows and Orlando Pirates draw

Posted: 18 April 2012 Time: 21:52

Orlano Pirates were denied by the woodwork on three occasions but still went top of the Premiership table after a 0-0 draw against Moroka Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday night.

It was a fast start to the game as Benni McCarthy saw his trademark free-kick go just wide of goal in the opening five minutes.

Seconds later Shere Lekgothoane was booked for a late challenge, while the Swallows defence was caught napping as Oupa Manyisa went agonizingly close as his shot kissed the crossbar two minutes later.

The visitors dominated the first-half as they put out attack after attack, with McCarthy seeing his set-piece hit the woodwork once more in the 13th minute.

Thirty-seven minutes in Lucky Lekgwathi was shown a yellow card for a foul on David Mathebula, while his opposite number Luvhengo Mungomeni was also cautioned for his foul on Tokelo Rantie a minute later.

Swallows came close in the last minute of the half as Bennet Chenene saw the ball taken off him inside the box from a well-timed tackle by Lekgwathi.

The restart saw Khumalo made way for Joseph Makhanya, while the 54th minute saw Andile Jali shown a yellow card for a foul on Lekgothoane.

Two minutes after the hour mark Etafia made a save from a long-range shot by Manyisa, while Moeneeb Josephs pulled off two successive saves six minutes later.

Ten minutes from time Rudolph Bester replaced the tired Rantie, while Tlou Segolela was replaced by Thulasizwe Mbuyane in the 83rd minute.

Swallows should have taken the lead two minutes later as Makhanya was denied by a spectacular save from Josephs, while extra-time saw Pirates’ misery continued as McCarthy clipped the woodwork off a free-kick.

Rats do forget so quickly, Downs copied this thing of holding the umbrell for the entire season and Chips aka Family Business just sneak in and grab the umbrella to finish. They used to open a lig by 11 points clear and got choke at the last minutes. We copied this from rats. You need ratex so that you can stop talking too much as if won the lig. Anyway congradulations for graping 1 point from (defending entire game) Swai Swai.

I want to think I have some good brotherhood with some bucs fans in this blog but seeing Pirates win this league again will be sore.

I genuinely like Pirates style of play but some comments can't stomach.

Thanks for waisting your lil' breath reminding us what we know, which we have since reversed. We ascend late on one purpose and one purpose only, keep the cup the championship. You can carry on harping about our forgetfulness for the next 100 years and that won't distract us. Don't treble treble until treble trebles you ! Up the Treble Champs !!!

We attacked from the first whistle in an away game and never stopped probing. Those Owls aka Swakllows were on their back foot for the rest of the game.We could not convert our chances. An away draw is a win. You just fancy your ugly owls, period!!!

The results 2day signaled a 2 team race in & ultimately Swallows proved me that they have players who lack a belief in beating their previous employers & that's how they could have ascended to the summit.

I thought Orlando Pirates doesn't play for draws, its times like this when you really appreciate a value of a point, because the very same "1 point" you were critisizing Mamelodi Sundowns F.C. about its the very same point that makes Orlando Pirates to lead the log.

Anyway I enjoyed the game between the two Soweto teams, Pirates wanted it more especially during the first half of the game, Moroka Swallows lifted their game after the break, but their defence were made to look ordinary by McCarthy for the duration of the game.

As for my team DOWNS, I remain behind you all the way. I beleive this championship will be in Chloorkop come May.

Yellow!!!

Yellow I Was, Yellow I Am and Yellow I Will Remain! [through and through]

After yesternite I had realised that football is total defficult sport to predict easlly. How that can Dunusa and Bugs lost and drew in this time wheras Swaiswai is burning their ezii so badly.
This shows that they can loose this League to unexpected contender.

Give it to Pie rats there is no team in the whole PSL that has a fighting spirit like them at the moment. You can see when these guys play they play to win nothing else. Unlike our boys at KC eg Tshabalala and Nale who are predictable whenever they have the ball. I personally give respect to current Pie rats squard. UP THE BUGS!!!
I hate chiefs with a passion

A point is better than nothing and mind you we were away and all that our players should do is to see that opening into the pole and bury their goals there.
