Moroka Swallows and Orlando Pirates draw

Posted: 18 April 2012 Time: 21:52

Orlano Pirates were denied by the woodwork on three occasions but still went top of the Premiership table after a 0-0 draw against Moroka Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday night.

It was a fast start to the game as Benni McCarthy saw his trademark free-kick go just wide of goal in the opening five minutes.

Seconds later Shere Lekgothoane was booked for a late challenge, while the Swallows defence was caught napping as Oupa Manyisa went agonizingly close as his shot kissed the crossbar two minutes later.

The visitors dominated the first-half as they put out attack after attack, with McCarthy seeing his set-piece hit the woodwork once more in the 13th minute.

Thirty-seven minutes in Lucky Lekgwathi was shown a yellow card for a foul on David Mathebula, while his opposite number Luvhengo Mungomeni was also cautioned for his foul on Tokelo Rantie a minute later.

Swallows came close in the last minute of the half as Bennet Chenene saw the ball taken off him inside the box from a well-timed tackle by Lekgwathi.

The restart saw Khumalo made way for Joseph Makhanya, while the 54th minute saw Andile Jali shown a yellow card for a foul on Lekgothoane.

Two minutes after the hour mark Etafia made a save from a long-range shot by Manyisa, while Moeneeb Josephs pulled off two successive saves six minutes later.

Ten minutes from time Rudolph Bester replaced the tired Rantie, while Tlou Segolela was replaced by Thulasizwe Mbuyane in the 83rd minute.

Swallows should have taken the lead two minutes later as Makhanya was denied by a spectacular save from Josephs, while extra-time saw Pirates’ misery continued as McCarthy clipped the woodwork off a free-kick.

Swakllows & their striker Daniel Barnett are witches & will mt win the league. Mungomeni should have have been shown a red card early in the first half, the referee did his best 2 keep them in the game.

Swallows Muthi was very strong, we should have won this game 2 or 3 nil. I enjoyed myself @ the stadium, saw some very disappointed Zebras there.

Bewinakuphi-la! Kusazodlalwa.

We ( Sundowns )hit the crossbar three times against Arrows, nobody paid attention to that, because a draw is just that. Is it 72hours before the Maritzburg game? Hold on to your point, if my memory serves me well Bidvest Wits beat you 3-1 in the first round, right now they want out of the relegation zone.

I owe no rodent an apology for the fight ahead!

Futbol is cruel sumtyms 2dae u can b a hero nd 2moro a villian, TK was tryin 2 much ended up not sharin d bol with others nevadless we played well pressed Swallows nd created enuf chances but it wasn't 2 b. I stl maintain dt Bennie is way 2 generous with d bol dts where I mic Jerry Skhosana 4 bing selfish at tyms. As 4 Jali, he can b d best midfielder in d country if he can make it luk simple he realy doesn't learn frm mistakes he made b4, d bol is safer when its with Manyisa than when its with him, no offence.

it's good we drew against Swallows away from home, we got fair chances but were wasteful infrot of goal and Etafia was on top of his game, today luck was'nt on our side to score. My concern is Jali, he seems to lose it in the playing field this young man might find himslef losing his football if no one helps him, he is a troubled young player. He loses posession, his passes do not reach fellow teammates, he over touches the ball unnecessarily , his temper is intolerable i have no idea what is the problem with this boy.

Game on well done maSwai swai. A point against the overated Bucs was gud enough. The rats must know tht hitting a crossbar is not goal. In the near future they must score goals, not 2 heat the crossbar.

Some people are on cloud-9 as if their high-horses are never going to touch ground. Well, 2nyt was just the beginning of a down-spirral. U'd swear that they live in another planet. Shame bcoz it's all about to change in their last 5 remaining matches. Chances of them beating Ajax, Supersport & Arrows are next to zilch. They're banking on Chiefs to chow Downs, SSU & Ajax so that they get easy passage to another fluke treble. Well, it ain't gonna happen. Sweat it out on Ur own. Everyone 4 themselves.
