Brazilians win Champions League opener

Surprise Moriri scored the only goal of the game to ensure Mamelodi Sundowns victory in their CAF Champions League opener when they beat Miembeni SC 1-0 in Zanzibar on Friday.

Despite Sundowns coach Gordon Igesund adopting an attacking approach to the game, the Brazilians failed to penetrate the hosts' defence in a dull first half at the Amaan Stadium.

The visitors pushed more men forward in the second half and were duly rewarded midway through the half when Moriri scored from corner.

Although the hosts threw everything at Sundowns, Igesund’s charges held on to secure a vital victory away from home.

However, the result came at a stiff price for the Chloorkop side, who saw Benson Mhlongo, Michael Manzini and Lungisani Ndlela all sustain injuries.

Starting Line-up: Marlin, Mere, Mhlongo, Manzini, Kannemeyer, Nyandoro, Dhladhala, Chabangu, Ndlela, Acuna, Moriri.

Patrice had a three year plan, but still they are not a force. sundowns must drop Mhlongo and Acuna if they want to play entertaining football.Watching Sundowns is something that I'll never do.

Good evening Guys, first off you shall never talk something you do not known, i am coming from Zanzibar now, the mission was not to concede a goal and score a goal away, in very difficulte situation we just did.The pitch is so bumpy we couldn't even play our usually carpet football. so get your fact right and stop being jalous.Egypt scored just one goal and were the kings of Africa

It looks like Downs have learnt nothing from their previous campaign in the Champions league. These kind of teams should be hammered by a bigger marging.I foresee the same thing of losing all our away games when the competition gets tougher. Bad treatment cannot be used as an excuse anymore as they know what to expect in Africa.
