Mamelodi Sundowns lose to Platinum Stars

Posted: 18 April 2012 Time: 21:18

Platinum Stars produced one of the shock results of the season with a 2-1 victory over log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday night.

The win for Dikwena ended a 14-game unbeaten run for The Brazilians in all competitions and is a blow for their title hopes, while for Stars it keeps alive their very real ambitions of finishing in the top eight.

Teko Modise was on target for Sundowns, in between excellent goals from Patrick Malokase and Sibosiso Msomi for the visitors, who were well worth the three points on the night.

The victory also stretched Stars’ run in the League to just one defeat in eight matches; quite a turnaround from the first half of the campaign.

The home side were almost ahead inside six minutes, with the lively Lebogang Mokoena crashing in a shot that flashed just inches wide of Stars goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane’s upright.

The visitors were the ones to strike first though, slightly against the run of play, as in-form Malokase beat the offside trap and produced a delightful chip to beat Calvin Marlin.

It was a fourth goal in as many games for the Orlando Pirates loanee, who is turning out to be the best piece of business done in the January transfer window.

The pressure from Sundowns was incessant though, and although Stars kept them at bay almost to the half-hour mark, they did finally find a way through – Modise scoring from close-range after a fine ball from Punch Masenamela.

But the visitors were back in front on 57 minutes when exciting prospect Msomi crashed the ball home from 30-yards for a fine individual effort that left Marlin flailing.

What followed was a siege on the Stars goal, but the visitors held firm with Man of the Match Tshepo Moloto one of the heroes on a fine night for the North West side.

Sundoms is like a guy that dates a girl for 3 years going to resturants, cinemas and everything else... While the guy never smacks that small kuku...

While Pirates is like that guy who meets the very same girl... Ending up smacking that small kuku and deleting the girls number on the spot...

Ayeye I love it when Black and White unite to form Pirates...

There is something special about Downs fans-they take a loss as a part of the game: yes, we lead for sumtym and now we are sitting at number two, but (to the haters) a message: You are trying too much, we understand clearly what football is, and a word of advice: DON'T TRY TOO HARD TO ANNOY US,,,It makes you look like morons cos really we wish we can cry and maybe suspend our coach or call our players names i.e Mabena but we are different from you: WeLUV SUNDOWNS So much...even if we loose against Maritzburp....The Sky Is The Limit

The league race is on. So any team from fourth position can win it. The rats must stop making noise and focus on the remaining games. The standard of foot ball in this country remains pathetic
