Kaizer Chiefs beat Platinum Stars in a League clash

Posted: 7 April 2012 Time: 22:11

Kaizer Chiefs ended Platinum Stars' six-match unbeaten run in the League with a 2-1 victory at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday night.

The victory, secured by first-half goals from Lehlohonolo Majoro and Abia Nale, sees the Amakhosi move up to fourth place in the table and keep their title hopes alive. Dikwena, who got their consolation goal via Patrick Malokase, drop one place to 11th.

Chiefs got off to the perfect start, opening the scoring in just the third minute. Siphiwe Tshabalala picked up a loose ball from Vuyo Mere and motored down the left flank before providing a perfect cross for the unmarked Lehlohonolo Majoro to head home from the middle.

Stars created some decent opportunities to get back on level terms, but on 25 minutes they found themselves 2-0 down: Abia Nale found space on the left of the penalty area and smashed home a left-footed shot that beat goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane at his near post.

Three minutes later Stars threatened to pull one back when Sipho Nkosi got onto the end of a free kick by Robert Ng'ambi and powered a header on target, but veteran goalkeeper Arthur Bartman pushed the ball around the post for a corner kick.

The half time score saw Chiefs 2-0 ahead, but their lead should have been halved 13 minutes into the second stanza: Sibusiso Msomi provided a great cross from the right flank to find Ng'ambi in the middle, but the attacking midfielder was unable to direct an effort on target from close range.

Finally, in the 77th minute, Stars got themselves back in the game. Substitute Patrick Malokase got his third goal in as many games, capitalising on some poor Chiefs defending to control a Vuyo Mere cross in the penalty area before firing a low shot into the back of the net.

Having dominated the second half, the hosts would have felt that a second goal to bring them on level terms was more than deserved, but they were unable to make good on the late chances they created, the best of which saw Lindokuhle Mbatha volley over the crossbar in the last minute of regulation time.

Motaung must give Bartman one more season, he still got the capabity to do wonders in his goal keeping position.he is only letting down by his defenders.

Kaizer Chiefs!

I agree with the fact that Chiefs generaly draw, lose & win not in that particular sequence. That's the painful story for the whole season.

I also agree with all those (what happened to Pirates fans that celebrated Chiefs loss as their win on tuesday?

Now they are hiding!

Wow so this is how the new generation of cHIVs faithfools reason.... This is a sad site, whenever I see cHIVs fool I just feel like giving her a 5 rands because their stressed people....

We at Pirates we already have 2 trophies in our cabinet if you remember.... So we are playing for a treble again and we will win the League with a game to spare since we dont have cup games to distract us....

6 trophies in 2 years wow.... Lets count people...
Since 2000 Pirates has about 4 league titles no team has more.... Sorry fools I already counted the 1 we will win a a game or 2 in hand....
Happy that Swallows drew because their our only realistic challenger, but their our only hope of keeping everything in Soweto.

Eish I love it when Black and White unite.

The draw kings from Pretoria have a nerve posting gabbish here, I suggest they focus on their flattering team instead of sticking their filthy noses here.

Ey some coaches can't read the game, baloyi n katsande were doing well the weaklink was Parker. I expected him to be out earlier in the second stanza. But no, vicks decided to pull of baloyi just to bring stars into the game. With this kind of performance, jimmy tau still expect to win the league.

I say Vicks must be suspended cos there is no way forward.

People don't realize that Chimpanzes' results go around the circle. Win, draw, loose. They have started another round with a win, watch the next game result and you will say I didn't lie.

Anyway congrats, a million dollar question...is this team a championship winning squad? Please don't haul insults rather be rational in your answers.

@Tolly Makaka

If it's true dat Chiefs win, draw and lose how come they are only 3 points behind your team which only win, win and win. Please answer.

I hate whn people run parallel to the truth, I mean evrione can c that chiefs is playin bad futbal. i was seatin on the edge of the couch the whole second half and letz face the truth Khosis we won't win the lig if we keep on playing this on and off futbal. I luv my team bt I've accepted the fact that the lig is beyond our reach we jst need focus on nedbank cup coz i knw VV will change tht squad......anyway KHOSI i shall remain

You think you know our team better than we do. Ofcoz we know the cycle we have accepted our fate which is not winning the league. Judging by the reaction of my Bakania friends after the game ezolo I could see not only PS were sad for loosing but Pirate were sad coz we won.

well yes we have accepted the fact that we wont win the league but that seems to work on pirates supporters judging by their comments ....maybe they wanted us to say we will win it

Why is it dat evrytym Chiefs win the Rats fans are quick to shout "Chiefs will not win the lig" ? Does a team win the lig by losing matches ? While i accept that our loss to Leopards has dented our chances i really don.t see Chibuku winning the lig.

I still believe Sundoms have a far better chance of winning it followed by Swallows. A single loss by Chibuku from now on will just be as bad if not worse than our loss 2 Leopards. Chibuku have the toughest matches to round their campain n they still have to go to CT where they will no doubt be hammered 3-0. They have Swallows waiting and anything can happen in their match against Cosmos 2moro.

And by the way Hans Vonk is not there 2 win the lig for them.

People who don't have Dstv are missing a lot, I was surprise to c Maphira asking Sweyts what muti he is talking about. Well it was shown on Rorbet Marawa's show on Thursday we were shocked to c Chiefs players with a Muti man throwing muti all over the pitch while they were pretending to be taking a pitch tour. It is very distabing to wacth a team whos fans are claiming to be the best in Africa doing witch craft on live tv. We expect small teams like Black Lept to do that but it ws the other way round, Chiefs doing it to Black Lpt.

Only in mzansi do ppl declare a team that is 3 points behind leaders out of title race. Man U are 5 points clear with 7 games to play yet nobody is saying it's all done n dusted. Mzansi soccer fans are simply the dumbest you can evr find. They just don't have futbal brains.
