Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs draw League clash

Posted: 28 March 2012 Time: 21:39

Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs earned a point each when their League clash ended in a 0-0 draw at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday night.

Both sides created a number of scoring chances on the night but they were constantly denied by some good goalkeeping at both ends of the field.

The visitors fired the first shot in anger in the fourth minute when George Lebese tested Nkosingiphile Gumede with a volley, but the goalkeeper was able to push the ball wide for a corner, while Philani Shange saw his shot blocked by Itumeleng Khune at the other end.

The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was called into action again three minutes later to stop a brilliant curled effort from Siyabonga Nkosi who was looking to put one over his former club.

Defender Musa Bilankulu should’ve opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when he was left free in the box to connect with an in-swinging freekick from Dillon Sheppard, but somehow he headed narrowly wide.

That miss almost proved to be costly a minute later when Abia Nale found Mandla Masango inside the box, but his effort was denied by a great save from Gumede.

Then in the 25th minute Dillon Sheppard shot straight at Khune from the edge of the box, while Gumede was almost caught off guard by a long kick from his opposite number four minutes later.

Six minutes before the break Nkosi’s saw his cross sailing across the empty net, needing a touch from one of his teammates, but Arrows didn’t have enough numbers in the box, while Masango was denied by another good save from Gumede a minute later.

Muhsin Ertugral’s men came close to taking the lead five minutes after the break when Sheppard played a great ball through the middle to find Mbesuma, but the Zambian international’s shot crashed against the upright.

Nale continued to torment his former side and in the 55th minute his cross from the left was flicked on by Majoro, only for Lucky Baloyi to blast his shot over the crossbar, while Masango saw his shot blocked at the near post by Gumede five minutes later.

Then in the 63rd minute Khune was involved in a clash of heads incident with substitute Thamsanqa Gabuza when he came out to punch a dangerous cross, and the goalkeeper was unable to recover and had to be replaced by Arthur Bartman after a lengthy stoppage.

The delay affected the momentum of both teams as they started to give away possession cheaply after the restart and also resorted to wayward shots from range.

Subsitute Katlego Mashego came close to stealing the game for the home side in added time after receiving a cross from Thamsanqa Gabuza on the edge of the penalty area but his shot was tipped over the crossbar by Bartman.

The result sees Kaizer Chiefs failing to move up from fougth position on the log, while Golden Arrows also remain in 12th place.

VV for me doesn't have a system.

My little knowledge of soccer is that is either you play with wing attack or you have players in wing positions that are generally not wingers & who will be able to twart the wing attacks of an opponent.

Where Masango & Lebese falls in this only your favorite coach will know.

If won't be happy with mediocre play as it was the case last nite & for their goalkeeper being man of the match doesn't mean we couldn't have done better.

No offence to you & Gee but you guys are almost one.

chips fans only derive happiness from Bucs defeat, other than that its a dull football life for them. If you take away 4gamecups, they huff n puff until the end of the season. In the last virtually 20yrs , they have got only two league titles, I dont count them as amongst teams to clinch the league title, but amongst teams whose fans make noise about league title, simply bcos its been too long (nearly a decade) since they won league title. I guess they need to re-sign Mbesuma and recall shoes out of retirement, may they can get something. But the season is still underway though.

U really out of order Buccanear, it's not like ur team has won 10 in the last 20yrs. Since 1992, Chiefs has won 3(1992, 2003/04 & 2004/05) & ur team only won 1 more(1994 & the 3 in the PSL era). No team has dominated the league except the Capital teams (with the 3 championships in succession) in the last 2 decates. The PSL is not a frequently 2 horse race like other so called Big Leagues & that makes it more interesting. Maybe we will have 3 or so teams who can possibly snatch it on the last day & that needs 1 to fasten the belt and enjoy the drama. Let's enjoy ur product & yes it involves a lot of emossions, that's sport for you.

There is nowhere in my statement whereby I praised my team`s superiority in clinching league title. My view is based on the last virtually 20yrs(I did point out the key word "virtually") I dont know why you include 1992 in your statement. Truth be told that overall chips has got a better league record than any team, however, it has dropped a lot over the yrs,as evidenced by the fact that they won only two in VIRTUALLY 20yrs. This is no comparison btwn my team and chips, but just highlighting the fact that they dropped regarding league title and looking at the last VIRTUALLY 20yrs.

Do we still have to blame the coach for the missed chances? Was he supposed to get into the field of play and finish those chances that were so difficult to miss than to convert?

Wishing S.As number one goalkeeper speedy recovery...

Lebese should go and try to resurrect Umtata Bush Bucks, Vaal Professionals or Rabali Blackpool...cos really aint no team in any current soccer fraternity that can stand his mistakes that boy wants to run through a person mayephethe ibhola...wake wabhoboka yini umuntu and then when he looses posession he doesnt mark at all....

I cant blame VV on this one.....

The goalkeeping department was world class from both teams....

One game at the time...Arrows were also out for blood...oTom noGabuza bashisa bhe mabedlala nathi but if it was against their makhwapheni team(JALI SPURS) they would have showcased lackluster perfomance...

Since Metsimetsi is gonna be loaned to Pirates and Thela is still too short...lets get that Gumede goalie guy as the deputy for Moneeb's idol(Khune).....

These boys lack ruthlessness and that killer instinct...

I have always said there is only one problem at pirates and that problem is the Used Condom Mabena. We always create avalanche of chances in the first half with Bennie still fresh but unfortunately they all went to waste as they fell on the used condom.

And someone will tell me to support Mabena coz he is Limpopo where he comes from. I am not stupid and i see a problem if there is any. The way Chimpanzees, Arrows were mizn chances you will see this used condom Mabena belongs there.

You can support your Mabena i will support my Rantie.

If he was used at the beginning we would still be playing the Champions league. We would be sitting pretty much comfortable at the top of the table. We would be still competing in the Nedbank. The boy will be on 20+ goals right now.

I am a Buccanear and if you want to challenge me on that just talk about Mabena

You don't have to be too clever, just chill. Chiefs won the '92 Championship @ the end of the season which basically translate to 19yrs & 3mths & that i believe is your Vitually 20yrs. Put it loosely, in 'Vitually' 20yrs Chiefs has won it 3 times!
