Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs draw League clash

Posted: 28 March 2012 Time: 21:39

Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs earned a point each when their League clash ended in a 0-0 draw at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday night.

Both sides created a number of scoring chances on the night but they were constantly denied by some good goalkeeping at both ends of the field.

The visitors fired the first shot in anger in the fourth minute when George Lebese tested Nkosingiphile Gumede with a volley, but the goalkeeper was able to push the ball wide for a corner, while Philani Shange saw his shot blocked by Itumeleng Khune at the other end.

The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was called into action again three minutes later to stop a brilliant curled effort from Siyabonga Nkosi who was looking to put one over his former club.

Defender Musa Bilankulu should’ve opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when he was left free in the box to connect with an in-swinging freekick from Dillon Sheppard, but somehow he headed narrowly wide.

That miss almost proved to be costly a minute later when Abia Nale found Mandla Masango inside the box, but his effort was denied by a great save from Gumede.

Then in the 25th minute Dillon Sheppard shot straight at Khune from the edge of the box, while Gumede was almost caught off guard by a long kick from his opposite number four minutes later.

Six minutes before the break Nkosi’s saw his cross sailing across the empty net, needing a touch from one of his teammates, but Arrows didn’t have enough numbers in the box, while Masango was denied by another good save from Gumede a minute later.

Muhsin Ertugral’s men came close to taking the lead five minutes after the break when Sheppard played a great ball through the middle to find Mbesuma, but the Zambian international’s shot crashed against the upright.

Nale continued to torment his former side and in the 55th minute his cross from the left was flicked on by Majoro, only for Lucky Baloyi to blast his shot over the crossbar, while Masango saw his shot blocked at the near post by Gumede five minutes later.

Then in the 63rd minute Khune was involved in a clash of heads incident with substitute Thamsanqa Gabuza when he came out to punch a dangerous cross, and the goalkeeper was unable to recover and had to be replaced by Arthur Bartman after a lengthy stoppage.

The delay affected the momentum of both teams as they started to give away possession cheaply after the restart and also resorted to wayward shots from range.

Subsitute Katlego Mashego came close to stealing the game for the home side in added time after receiving a cross from Thamsanqa Gabuza on the edge of the penalty area but his shot was tipped over the crossbar by Bartman.

The result sees Kaizer Chiefs failing to move up from fougth position on the log, while Golden Arrows also remain in 12th place.

At least this useless VV played Nale for about 88 minutes, now you can work on Masango, the boy must just reast a bit. Parker should start as an attacking midfield while Lebese starts from the bank. Anyway a point away is something, we are still on the race. The focus for this weekend is now chanelled to Nedbank in PLK. Rise Khosi Rise!!!!!!!

So the Chimpanzees were crying for 60 seconds in the game against Pirates. yesterday you were given 6600 seconds against Arrows and you score 0.0000000000000000000000000000000 crackers, those were very beutiful goals, well taken goals by the men from the Zoo.

chips fans only derive happiness from Bucs defeat, other than that its a dull football life for them. If you take away 4gamecups, they huff n puff until the end of the season. In the last virtually 20yrs , they have got only two league titles, I dont count them as amongst teams to clinch the league title, but amongst teams whose fans make noise about league title, simply bcos its been too long (nearly a decade) since they won league title. I guess they need to re-sign Mbesuma and recall shoes out of retirement, may they can get something. But the season is still underway though.

Nale had a good game and to some extent Lebese improved from his last perfomance

When they played so many minutes of extra time, I started preparing myself for penalties, as I somehow completely forgot its a league game.

There you have it good people! Didn't I say that a 0-0 draw is on the cards when it was reported that your hero Nengomasha was gonna play? After each and every loss/draw you design new excuses to blame the coach as if he's coaching robots or playing a play-station. I wonder what qualification do you have as a coach and why you ain't coaching if you are so good.

George Lebese is a useless player Makhosi. This boy has been given so much time to prove himself. He is lazy, does not exert himself. Let this boy go and join Sundunusa he is useless.

@Tzozo,

Well VV says the whole team is useless. Whats your take on this statement?

The man of the match was given to the young G. Arrows goalkeeper…. Does that ring any bells???

I think we played well against a very experienced team with seasoned campaigners that has the most “capped” Bafana Bafana midfield. We were let down by poor finishing yet again.

All is not lost, we can’t always win. We are 5 points behind with a game in hand, and should we win that game we climb up to No. 2.

What does VV hope to achieve with Lebese and Masango? Useless players or should i say youngstars? This boys are finished and deserves to be offloaded to Platinum Stars, i can also confidently say VV has reached the ceiling, i mean he cannot tell that the work rate of Lebese and Masango is better than Dladla and Parker. What does Ace do on the bench?
