Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs draw League clash

Posted: 28 March 2012 Time: 21:39

Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs earned a point each when their League clash ended in a 0-0 draw at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday night.

Both sides created a number of scoring chances on the night but they were constantly denied by some good goalkeeping at both ends of the field.

The visitors fired the first shot in anger in the fourth minute when George Lebese tested Nkosingiphile Gumede with a volley, but the goalkeeper was able to push the ball wide for a corner, while Philani Shange saw his shot blocked by Itumeleng Khune at the other end.

The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was called into action again three minutes later to stop a brilliant curled effort from Siyabonga Nkosi who was looking to put one over his former club.

Defender Musa Bilankulu should’ve opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when he was left free in the box to connect with an in-swinging freekick from Dillon Sheppard, but somehow he headed narrowly wide.

That miss almost proved to be costly a minute later when Abia Nale found Mandla Masango inside the box, but his effort was denied by a great save from Gumede.

Then in the 25th minute Dillon Sheppard shot straight at Khune from the edge of the box, while Gumede was almost caught off guard by a long kick from his opposite number four minutes later.

Six minutes before the break Nkosi’s saw his cross sailing across the empty net, needing a touch from one of his teammates, but Arrows didn’t have enough numbers in the box, while Masango was denied by another good save from Gumede a minute later.

Muhsin Ertugral’s men came close to taking the lead five minutes after the break when Sheppard played a great ball through the middle to find Mbesuma, but the Zambian international’s shot crashed against the upright.

Nale continued to torment his former side and in the 55th minute his cross from the left was flicked on by Majoro, only for Lucky Baloyi to blast his shot over the crossbar, while Masango saw his shot blocked at the near post by Gumede five minutes later.

Then in the 63rd minute Khune was involved in a clash of heads incident with substitute Thamsanqa Gabuza when he came out to punch a dangerous cross, and the goalkeeper was unable to recover and had to be replaced by Arthur Bartman after a lengthy stoppage.

The delay affected the momentum of both teams as they started to give away possession cheaply after the restart and also resorted to wayward shots from range.

Subsitute Katlego Mashego came close to stealing the game for the home side in added time after receiving a cross from Thamsanqa Gabuza on the edge of the penalty area but his shot was tipped over the crossbar by Bartman.

The result sees Kaizer Chiefs failing to move up from fougth position on the log, while Golden Arrows also remain in 12th place.

Tebzadinho!

What makes a team superpower?
-winning 5 cups in one season after a long time or playing a good football without silverware yet?

I bet you 2 seasons ago when Supersport made history they were still not a superpower.

South African league doesn't have a superpower & that's a good thing for me because I don't want to see La Liga in Africa where you have only two big teams & the rest.

i bet Amidu can do better than Masango

and Lebese. Those 2 make same mistakes every game but the coach plays them 4 almost 90minutes. I wonder when is Jnr and Ngcobo geting their chance. VV is out of ideas now for sure

Gee!

U know what I wish for in Kickoff website?is being able to easily retrieve past articles.

If you can look at my old comments I was still consistent on my believe that Sthembiso is not utilized to his strength.

I'm not talking about him only now & have been doing that for a very long time.

I have posted b4 that VV's pattern doesn't incorporate regular crosses for a player like Sthembiso.

If you can find any past article please check it and see what is my comment on Ngcobo.

4sure some players don't deserve to start for Chiefs but what pattern is your coach playing?

Ag at least its not lose as I said it b4 in this recent times (this started about 3 seasons ago) Amakhosi started lacking consistency but atleast they've been winning silverware. This season is the lowest of the low though...Bobby go to the world bank, make a loan of R75m n replenish the team and plz plz plz start the chopping with Nengomashe .. I just dnt c y he is still part of the team he has about 10 or more seasons n ntn to show 4 it .. Hy moet loop bt not only him .... Lebese shudve went on loan to cosmos to help them fyt their way outta relegation .... The coach shud understand that without Musona Lebese is useless Musona cud turn any sloppy pass Lebese supplied him with into a Brilliant finish .. So R75m loan chop players get quality players and u will start getting back to winning ways!! Or do u wanna break the 10 year drought record of some team in the PSL?

I dnt even want to talk abt mateba. . . . These chiefs talent scouts will fail chiefs if they thnk joburg is only place to nurture up and coming youngsters

Chiefs won't win lig title the way dey r playing, year in year out Chiefs lose the title bcos we don't have depth esp 2nd round of the lig.Chiefs used to buy quality player knowing dat lig is won by scoring goals not by defending.I foresee danger we r fighting for no 3
