Mamelodi Sundowns held by Bloemfontein Celtic

Posted: 28 March 2012 Time: 21:34

Bloemfontein Celtic and Mamelodi Sundowns played to a 0-0 draw at the Botshabelo Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Tshwane side, who were overwhelming favourites to win the match, started well and did all the attacking but they fluffed a numbers of opportunities created.

Their free-flowing style of play certainly asked a few questions of the home teams' defence early on, especially down the right flank where Anthony Laffor and Siyabonga Ngubane combined to orchestrate a few probing raids.

Katlego Mphela had the first chance for Sundowns as early as the fourth minute, but volleyed over the bar from only 10 yards out. Six minutes later the Bafafa Bafana striker had a great chance to open the scoring after leaving Thabo Nthethe for dead, but his tame shot was easily gathered by Thabani Stemmer.

Celtic managed to fashion a few half chances, but Lennox Bacela and Phenyo Mongala both failed to provide any real problems for Calvin Marlin in the first half. The former connected with a great cross by Cecil Oerson in the 36th minute but he could not keep his header down, while the Botswana international's shot in the 43rd minute was saved by Marlin.

The score remained goalless at half-time.

Clinton Larsen's boys started the second stanza on the attack, and they were unlucky to see Jacky Motshegwa’s well-taken shot going inches off target in the 51st minute. Two minutes later, Nyasha Mushekwi’s shot from across the goal struck the woodwork and then went back into play.

Immediately after that, Sundowns almost broke the deadlock when their effort was cleared off the line by Tsietsi Mahoa.

From there onwards, it was an end-to-end stuff as both sides tried hard to get the goal in vain. Mphela found himself with some space in the area, however, he shot over the bar. He should have done better.

Celtic put good effort into the final 15 minutes of the game, but time and time again they lacked the spark up front needed to convert what were on occasion good build ups, into goals. Motshegwa and substitute Ruzaigh Gameldien could not believe their eyes when their efforts went slightly wide of goal.

In the end, the match ended in a stalemate as neither side managed to take their chances.

I've said it before.
S'downs its like Man City :Money/Players/Overrated Coach.
At one stage they were leading the pack with 10points,now its down the wire. They still have to face Zimbabwe FC.I'm not saying Pie-rates will win it,but these Zimbos also stand a good chance.

Against Celtics they pack their midfield against dead snake, why?
they should have played Nyatama & Tiko with Kekane holding the fort.

Ya ne, this drunkard coach,"uyasibulala"

I'm getting FEDup with position football that produces Draws.

Can someone tell our back-line to show urgency and hunger to drive forward a bit when we in position of the ball and also our Jersey number 10,28,9,14 and 31 not to give away position easily also our Jersey number 33 who seem to enjoy taking long on throw-Inns.

In all-fairness we played rubbish

Hehehehe. To inform you Sundunusa fans, this dagga chain smoking addict named Mphela when he was in cape town came by to my drug friends and received a kilo of dagga and tik after the ajax game. If you were wondering why he couldn't tell where there goal posts are missing shots from 10 yards out, now you know why. This moegoe was still high!!!!

Hahahahahaha. Swetys and Brazilito, please pass my message over to Mphela and tell him he's welcome anytime here in cape town.

Up the Bucs...

I have always said there is only one problem at pirates and that problem is the Used Condom Mabena. We always create avalanche of chances in the first half with Bennie still fresh but unfortunately they all went to waste as they fell on the used condom.

And someone will tell me to support Mabena coz he is Limpopo where he comes from. I am not stupid and i see a problem if there is any. The way Chimpanzees, Arrows were mizn chances you will see this used condom Mabena belongs there.

You can support your Mabena i will support my Rantie.

If he was used at the beginning we would still be playing the Champions league. We would be sitting pretty much comfortable at the top of the table. We would be still competing in the Nedbank. The boy will be on 20+ goals right now.

I am a Buccanear and if you want to challenge me on that just talk about Mabena

Sundowns was cursed by Powerlines FC - Thier Sangoma closed the goals in a bottle - They will starve for 24 games.
