Kaizer Chiefs beat Bloemfontein Celtic 2-0

Posted: 21 March 2012 Time: 21:18

Kaizer Chiefs put the weekend behind them with a solid 2-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday.

A goal in each half from Lucky Baloyi and Lehlohonolo Majoro handed Amakhosi a much-needed victory.

Chiefs dominated the first 45 minutes, controlling possession and looking threatening in attack, while Celtic seemed out of ideas in front of goal.

But despite their domination, Chiefs seemed more eager to pass the ball in the final third, with nobody wanting to take responsibity for the final shot on goal.

Lehlohonolo Majoro came close to breaking the deadlock inside 10 minutes, but his stinging shot from just inside the 18-yard box hit the side-netting.

Amakhosi continued to push, and it paid off just after the half-hour mark, when Baloyi scored what will surely be one of the goals of the season.

Baloyi let fly with a rocket of a shot from about 35 yards, and the ball sailed into the top left corner, giving Thabani Stemmer no chance.

Celtic tried to get back in the game, but were outplayed in midfield and lacked spark in the attack. However, they came close to levelling the score just after the break, but were denied by some excellent keeping from Itumeleng Khune.

The visitor's first corner of the match resulted in a goalmouth scramble, and Letladi Madubanya tried an overhead-kick from six yards out – but his acrobatic effort was superbly saved by Khune with his feet.

Celtic came into the game a bit after that, and Madubanya should have equalised, but with just the keeper to beat he fired wide.

Three minutes later Majoro doubled Chiefs' lead, after some good teamwork. Masango forced his way into the box on the right and sent in a good cross, finding Majoro unmarked four yards out. The striker made no mistake, side-footing the ball home to make it 2-0.

Promising second half substitute Ransford Osei wasted a great chance when, in a one-on-one situation, he fired straight at Khune.

The game became more open as Celtic pressed forward in search of a goal and Chiefs looked to hit on the counter, but in the end Amakhosi held onto their two-goal lead, which takes them to fourth on the table with a game in hand.

VV, keep playing Katsande and Baloyi (until Yeye returns) they are starting to form a formidable combination.
As for Tenashe, I hope he knows what Tevez went through and if I was him I’ll apologise to VV.
In the Nedbank just make 2 or 3 changes to last night’s line-up: 1. Tefu Mashamaite/ Brett Lalwer for Isaacs 2. Nale/ for Lebese 3. Amidu for Shabba
N.B: we have to rest Shabba, we need him more on Wednesday against G. Arrows
------------------------------

Spot on Khosi, u summed it up perfectly. Katsande /Baloyi are gud in de middle. I wonder who will be dropped when Yeye returns. Mashamaite should be given a chance. Issacs is not chiefs material

Shabba is suspended 4de next game after pickin up de yellow card, Amidu can be given a chance in de nedbank cup.

Lebese is off form, Nale should come in next game...

Well done Chiefs. Should VV finish all those sitters and should he be happy about those missed opportunities.
If you screaming Katsande Katsande Red card but you were urging Jali to kick Sundowns players before the game and he did kick them and got a red card after he got a red card he was defended by his fans saying he is a lion fighting for his team .... Double standards, do you see what I'm saying here.

@Diehardbucs so are you saying Mr Benett's decision is right because the referee who was handling Chiefs vs FSS did the same thing? The issue of the referees affect all the teams, for once leave your issues aside and try to address this the right way. It's not about Chiefs, Free State Stars, pirates etc... but the incomptence of the referees. You don't have ask questions where things are not right, what do you want to justify. If something is wrong is wrong, no matter if it happens against you or in your favour.

We win you talk bad, we loose you talk bad do you even understand what you saying. How can you speak the same thing even after two different results .... do you see what I'm saying here. Should you get a response from me that will be a cold day in hell, better are those who tease when we loose and disappear when we win they stand a better chance of not sounding bitter and stupid.

The mere fact that Stemmer handled the ball DELIBERATELY outside the box should have been a red card. Let alone the denying of an obvious scoring chance. Bennet does this alwasy against Chiefs.

What is in fact wrong with Chiefs fans?? just few days ago the Katsande/Baloyi midfield was not good enough after they were exposed by Jali/Manyisa combination, then all of a sudden they are now the best and VV should stick to that combination. Now can u guys still blame Bobby for insulting u?? In fact Bobby should fire Chiefs fans intead of VV as we can all see who is confused.

hehehe, see what happens when u watch a game without ur glasses. Chiefs dominated de game bro, which game were u watching. the only thing Jali dominated was kicking our players as usual, thank god he finaly got a red card. Manysa is just overated and average, i wont talk about him.

The problem with Chiefs is our weak defence which is gud goin 4ward but not defending. VV gave u de game by leavin" our top scorer on de bench and fieldin Ritchie instead of Jambo against kudukudu..
