Mamelodi Sundowns beat Ajax Cape Town 3-0

Posted: 17 March 2012 Time: 20:02

Mamelodi Sundowns outplayed Ajax Cape Town in a 3-0 win at the Newlands Stadium on Saturday evening.

It was a flat and tired looking show from the Cape side, possibly as a result of their midweek extra-time cup defeat to AmaZulu.

Downs though were on top of their game and deserved winners.

Ajax had half chances early on, but Nhlanhla Vilakazi’s shot was saved by Wayne Sandilands while Terror Fanteni’s scrambled effort was cleared off the line by the impressive Clayton Daniels.

The Brazilians took the lead after 38 minutes as Elias Pelembe got in at the near post to head home Teko Modise’s corner.

The second goal came six minutes after the restart as Katlego Mphela squared the ball for Modise, who showed composure to curl the ball in at the near post from 14-yards.

Mphela made it 3-0 on the hour mark with a goal of real class as he drifted in from the left and fired in an unstoppable shot across the body of Sandilands; his first league goal in seven matches.

There never appeared to be a way back for an off-form Ajax, although Lebo Manyama wasted a great chance with 67 minutes gone when he failed to beat Sandilands when clear through on goal.

George Akpabio was also guilty of missing, getting an attempted chip all wrong with the game in injury time.

A championship winning team grafts out three points convincly even without playing well. We were not our usual best but will wellcome the three points.

PLEA TO SECHEBA SAMA SANDAWANA: Lets pack Loftus and increase the AMBIANCE we are known for. Infact we should start the AMBIANCE from Arcadia till Hartfield.

Note: we are playing a team with volatile supporters so please leave your kids at home for safety and preventing them from picking up bad manners i.e swearing for 90 minutes.

Mbuyane will be back on Tuesday with Sox on fire.

the more Sundowns stay at the top, the more painful it is for their fans because they know Sundowns will choke.

Well done to the Coach and Boyz. If you beat Pie Rates on Tuesday we are done with the League. I already bought a ticket @ Checkers, waiting for Tuesday. I know you can make us proud Guyz. The 3 goals that you scored were all difficult but you did it. Thanks Boyz.
For the game on Tuesday, Pie Rates @ the back are not good. Mahamutsa is a joke. Please Pelembe challenge him, I mean trap the ball and face him you will pass him very easily or you will get a free kick.

I am Yellow forever

I Think we Showed Class! Mistakes we made in the Last 3 Draws were rectified! it is interesting that we haven't lost Since that Game against Chiefs! I feel for Neeskeens, he has selection headaches! Laffor is on Form and so is Mokoena! Up-front Who do u Bench? Mushekwi or Mphela? Ngubane is slowly adapting to that defensive position. his true Test will be against Segolela and Mabalane this Tuesday. HLompo Kekana is our Frank Lampard! he is not your typical Defensive midfielder! he Goes foward with Vigour! i have to laud Suprise moriri for his anchoring role in the middle of the park his tackles are crucial! Modise's Revival came at a time when he needs to show his Former side how lethal he is in front of Goal! my Guess of the Starting XI against Pirates

Defenders: Mwanjale, Xulu, Ngubane, Masenamela
Midfielders: Modise, Pelembe, Moriri, Kekana
Strikers: Laffor, Mphela
