Mamelodi Sundowns draw 0-0 with Jomo Cosmos

Posted: 19 February 2012 Time: 17:42

Jomo Cosmos will be pleased with a point away at Mamelodi Sundowns, after a 0-0 draw in their Premiership encounter at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday.

Despite the disappointing result, Downs still enjoy a three-point lead at the top of the table with 35 points from 17 games.

SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs are close behind the Brazilians on 32 points each.

Cosmos still sit in 15th place with 11 points.

With the number of chances they created, Sundowns should really have taken all three points. Katlego Mphela was one of the main culprits, and on 14 minutes sent a volley narrowly wide after a cross from Siyanda Xulu.

Jabulani Shongwe shot wide after good interplay with Teko Modise, before Mphela provided a ball for Lebogang Mokoena, whose shot was beaten away by Avril Phali.

Phali was called into action minutes later, when he tipped Themba Zwane's = curling shot wide.

Anthony Laffor added some energy to the Brazilians when he came on for the lacklustre Elias Pelembe after an hour, and sent in a great cross to an unmarked Mphela in the box, but 'Killer' headed wide.

Nyasha Mushekwi headed wide after a cross from Siyabonga Ngubane cross, and had another shot on moments later but was denied by an on-form Phali.

Matthew Rusike, who made some enterprising runs on the wing in the first half, had Cosmos' best chance half an hour into the match, but his attempt was easily saved by Wayne Sandilands.

Siyabonga Nontshinga could have given Ezenkosi a surprise win in the final seconds, but his shot flew just over the bar.

Mphela needs to be reminded that in football everytime you are geven a chance to take to the field for your team, you are given a chance to market your self to scouts in his case europian scouts.

I'm realy disapointed in the way he has played in the last 2 games. Pls give milkshake a chance he is got that fight in him that makes him a marvel to watch.

That is why our brothers from foraign countries make it overseas via south africa. They are here to market themselves, let mphela go the fight in that was in him is no more.

Downs until until

i have to admit, cosmos did their homework. They played well, while it seems we underestimated them. Diwns were bad, cosmos were having the game of their lives.

Mphela must b benchd cos he doesn't show any willingnes to play for us...He shud ask himself why is Mushekwi wanted by Westham...Mushekwi is a fighter n like taking shots at goal n makes opposition defence feel him while Mphela is lazy to even chase thru balz

MASANDAWANA we are being invaded by Zebra supporters moonlighting as YELO SECHABA. Yesterday at the noticed 2 guys making a substitute gesture. We stopped them very quickly but they were persistent.

This culture is foreign to Downs. It is Zebrayonic n Rats culture. Fans with animalistic instincts and behaviour.

Lets support the boys come what may! YELO SECHABA.

The gap is getting smaller and smaller and the race is now competitive.

Those with quality will sustain their run rate. Fortunately Pirates n Sundowns have quality, but Sundowns is known of giving it away very cheap.

Well done to Jomo Cosmos more especially Avril Phali. I thought Jomo Cosmos played descently more especially in the middle of the park. The only problem was getting that offesive shape when going forward and get Sundowns' defence in sixes & sevens. That's where we lacked potency. I think Rusike should play in-field than as a winger. Well done Cosmos

Hey Postmanpat, you need to tell Rusike to relax, the boy makes stupid mistakes! he seems over zealous to score goals and loses focus forgetting that there are other guys with him.
