Kaizer Chiefs draw 1-1 with Jomo Cosmos

Posted: 15 February 2012 Time: 21:41

Lehlohonolo Majoro scored seven minutes from time against Jomo Cosmos to salvage a draw in Vladimir Vermezovic's 100th game in charge of Kaizer Chiefs.

Amakhosi came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Ezenkosi, after Mark Haskins got the opener on 75 minutes.

Chiefs started brightly and there seemed to be no signs of rustiness after a two month lay-off, and they tested Cosmos as early as the ninth minute.

Tlou Molekwane produced a good cross from the right and Bernard Parker rose above his marker to head towards goal, but Avril Phali made a fantastic save.

Five minutes later some poor defending from Cosmos at a corner-kick resulted in a goalmouth scramble, and Dominic Isaacs toe-poked the ball onto the crossbar from close range.

On 20 minutes Keegan Ritchie curled the ball around the defensive wall with a free-kick, but again Phali responded with a magnificent save, diving full stretch to his left to palm the ball over the crossbar.

Following those three scares Cosmos decided to pack the midfield and defend in numbers, throwing all 11 players behind the ball.

Growing frustrated, Chiefs pushed players forward and left themselves vulnerable to the counter-attack, but whenever Cosmos tried to break out they were quickly contained.

Matthew Rusike got through on goal, just after the half-hour mark, but he fired straight at Itumeleng Khune.

Chiefs had the better of the first 45, but it was the same old problem for 'VV' as his men could not find the back of the net.

As the second half wore on, Chiefs could not find the right pass and had to try their luck from set-pieces.

Ritchie again called Phali into action in the 56th minute with another 25-yard free-kick, but again Phali produced a wonderful save to deny him.

Then Parker saw his 20-yard volley skim the wrong side of the crossbar, with the keeper well beaten.

In the 75th minute, against the run of play, Cosmos took the lead. A sublime ball was played behind the Chiefs defence for Haskins to run onto, and he made no mistake, side-footing the ball past Khune from six yards out.

Chiefs quickly hit back when Majoro broke the offside trap for a one-on-one situation with the keeper. The striker showed his composure and Chiefs drew level.

The final minutes were tense as Chiefs went in search of the winner while Cosmos tried to hang onto the draw, but the match ended all square and Vermezovic was clearly unhappy with a point.

Dooba OPC: we always disagree but this make perfect sense, mobalise people to stand up challenge Bobby, This is not the Khosi we all know. The first failer is to deny that u have a problem, Guys stop attending the games, burn the stadiums if necessary.

If you are a sick man, it is good for you to know that you are sick, it is better if you look for help, but most of all it is best for you if you accept that you are sick. In politics a failed State is the one that has failed to listen to the needs of its people. In football, a failed team is the one that fails to listen to needs of its supporters. So there is no difference between Bob Mugabe in Harare and Bobby in Naturena.

Haskins! you biscuit! once again you proved what a quality player you are especially since you did not play at all last season. It is really a shame that quality players like you are overlooked for mediocre players in Bafana! Your passes are world class and only a player with vision can last for 90 mins in his first game after a long layoff! Well done san, keep it up and stay the humble person that you are!

I hate to kick a man when he's down......but I ca'nt help it, there's a serious psychological, emotional, and ofcourse financial related stress at Chiefs......It's a crisis that will soon spill over to a calamity, I hope they survive relegation, even though the thought of dominating in the first division might be appealing to Bobby.

With regard to the current crop of players we have, the two question comes to mind: there is a difference between a dedicated team with quality and dedicated team with 'quantity'.

At Chiefs, we're said to have 'quantity', these players show no appetitte to play for KC, they're not dedicated at all. They couldn't string up few passes together, at this level of football, you still have players who cannot pass a ball from his feet directly to his teammate?

On the issue of Bobby, what about Senior Kaizer? what is he doing? As far as I know, Kaizer is the one overseeing and making the final decisions. For example, after agreeing with players' personal terms, Bobby would say he is waiting for the 'Executive Chairman', meaning that Kaizer Snr is the one running the team

@Dr Prof thank God there are still people like on earth. i can add to that, who approached Myeni and Ntshumaelo to sign for Rats? Khoza, why are we blaming Bobby for something the Chairman Kaizer snr is in charge for. there is no decision that bobby will take and Kaizer snr not being informed and ok it. to rats supporters i thought you said chiefs will loose and now you are celebrating a cosmos draw. another thing i thought were watching their team not chiefs m surprised they comment as if they were watching our game, LOL.

Burn stadium, coup de tat? You are out of order chief. I will be more worried about the kak football your team played yesterday and the booing of your own (Jali). We are in a bad state, but we certainly don't have bad taste.

Jomo needs to up his game, he cannot draw games like this once, if he wants to stay out of relegation, he must win against average teams!
