Kaizer Chiefs draw 1-1 with Jomo Cosmos

Posted: 15 February 2012 Time: 21:41

Lehlohonolo Majoro scored seven minutes from time against Jomo Cosmos to salvage a draw in Vladimir Vermezovic's 100th game in charge of Kaizer Chiefs.

Amakhosi came from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Ezenkosi, after Mark Haskins got the opener on 75 minutes.

Chiefs started brightly and there seemed to be no signs of rustiness after a two month lay-off, and they tested Cosmos as early as the ninth minute.

Tlou Molekwane produced a good cross from the right and Bernard Parker rose above his marker to head towards goal, but Avril Phali made a fantastic save.

Five minutes later some poor defending from Cosmos at a corner-kick resulted in a goalmouth scramble, and Dominic Isaacs toe-poked the ball onto the crossbar from close range.

On 20 minutes Keegan Ritchie curled the ball around the defensive wall with a free-kick, but again Phali responded with a magnificent save, diving full stretch to his left to palm the ball over the crossbar.

Following those three scares Cosmos decided to pack the midfield and defend in numbers, throwing all 11 players behind the ball.

Growing frustrated, Chiefs pushed players forward and left themselves vulnerable to the counter-attack, but whenever Cosmos tried to break out they were quickly contained.

Matthew Rusike got through on goal, just after the half-hour mark, but he fired straight at Itumeleng Khune.

Chiefs had the better of the first 45, but it was the same old problem for 'VV' as his men could not find the back of the net.

As the second half wore on, Chiefs could not find the right pass and had to try their luck from set-pieces.

Ritchie again called Phali into action in the 56th minute with another 25-yard free-kick, but again Phali produced a wonderful save to deny him.

Then Parker saw his 20-yard volley skim the wrong side of the crossbar, with the keeper well beaten.

In the 75th minute, against the run of play, Cosmos took the lead. A sublime ball was played behind the Chiefs defence for Haskins to run onto, and he made no mistake, side-footing the ball past Khune from six yards out.

Chiefs quickly hit back when Majoro broke the offside trap for a one-on-one situation with the keeper. The striker showed his composure and Chiefs drew level.

The final minutes were tense as Chiefs went in search of the winner while Cosmos tried to hang onto the draw, but the match ended all square and Vermezovic was clearly unhappy with a point.

Hehehe the draw specialists have started doing what they do best. More draws & loses to come just check the upcoming games. . .You draw with a team rooted @ the bottom of the log & expect to win the league. . .pleeaaaassseeeee!!! They were making all the noise before the Christmas break as if they've won the league already. We've just cut that lousy 4 points lead to a mere 2. We'll remind them Zebras again. It's not about how you start but how you finish. . .Swi na vusiwana, mncm!!!

Is this the Chiefs that Bobby and V.V insist is going to places and challenging for the league honors? We're being fooled here. Bobby is here to destroy the team, period! We don't have quality in terms of the playing staff and we just pretend all is fine. Bored to death! I wish I could change and follow a team that is ready to play, but I love Chiefs...not Bobby!

If i could wake one day and hear that Bobby overdosed and died i would take leave and celebrate. Chiefs is nowhere near a team challenging for the league. We are just there by luck soon we'll be fighting for Top8.

Their next game is Swallows, a team that was reduced by Pirates to nothing.

Swallows will win this game.

Chiefs does not look convincing at all... something wrong is amiss, and it has nothing to do with the player's mentality, the coach and obviously the current culture at Chiefs... Chiefs has not been this long in a long time, and even then the management was willing to fix things like replacing the coach or something, it has always worked when we replaced a non-performing coach- but this time they don't even realise there is a problem. In fact they are the problem, and unfortunately they cant replace themselves.

If you are a sick man, it is good for you to know that you are sick, it is better if you look for help, but most of all it is best for you if you accept that you are sick. In politics a failed State is the one that has failed to listen to the needs of its people. In football, a failed team is the one that fails to listen to needs of its supporters. So there is no difference between Bob Mugabe in Harare and Bobby in Naturena.

Two points dropped..but bravo to the fans in PE...you lifted the team after an opportunistic goal from Haskins....we need the same spirit from the stands in the remaining games..to lift the players' spirit....with such team work i witnessed last night we're on the right track....no one can beat team work..ask Ivory Coast....real supporters wont be pointing fingers or dropping heads...but support the team to build a winning mentality...

As expected pirates fans celebrating our draw as if they won the leaque. It was also expected for cosmos to play for a draw since they realized they can't win just like the editor correctly explained.

To our fans not all is lost everyone still going to drop points its just a first game of the second half
