Orlando Pirates beat Golden Arrows in a League match

Posted: 21 December 2011 Time: 21:26

Orlando Pirates moved up to fifth place on the Absa Premiership table with a 2-0 win over Golden Arrows at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night.

Second half goals from Isaac Chansa and Tokelo Rantie handed the Buccaneers a deserved win that sees them end a highly successful calendar year on a high note.

Abafana Bes’thende remain a work in progress under Muhsin Ertugral and ended the year placed 12th on the log, four points above the danger zone.

The first half was a subdued and uninspiring affair, with neither team able to get into any kind of rhythm as far as their attacking play was concerned.

For Pirates, Benni McCarthy looked off the pace and lacked sufficient service and support, while Arrows’ strike partnership of Collins Mbesuma and Thamsanqa Gabuza should have been a handful for Bucs’ backline yet proved to be anything but.

The defences were certainly on top in the first 45 minutes and neither Pirates goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs not his counterpart at Arrows, young Nkosingiphile Gumede, were called upon to do any kind of challenging work.

Bucs started the second half looking a lot livelier but it was Arrows who created the first genuine scoring chance of the game in the 54th minute: Mbesuma drove down the left flank and provided a perfect cross for his partner Gabuza, but the striker directed his shot wide of the near post.

Seven minutes later Pirates made their visitors pay for that miss, taking the lead through midfielder Isaac Chansa. The Zambian got on the end of a fine cross from Daine Klate and arrowed a header into the bottom corner of the net, giving Gumede no chance of a save.

Arrows almost drew level with just under a quarter hour to play when Dillon Sheppard’s free kick flew toward the top corner of Pirates’ net, but Josephs produced a brilliant save to palm the ball away and keep his team in the ascendancy.

Once again the hosts reacted superbly to a chance for Arrows and doubled their lead in the 83rd minute. Klate was again the architect, providing a great ball into the box from a free kick that substitute Tokelo Rantie fired home to make the game safe for the Buccaneers.

Let me take this opportunity 2 congratulate my team 4 walloping Arrows (as we expected).
In 2012 we wont hav any mercy like we do, we r going 2 kick every dog that will b on our freeway 2 liftng the league.

I dont even worry abt Sundunusa coz i knw when it matters the most thats whn they will drop points like umagosha dropping her G-string.

To all the buccaneers especially those who protect our beautiful brand on this blog like abo Lordjerry, Motlokoa, Mriyo, Diehardbucs, The ghost, Tholly.ba.Thathe, Bucselona and many others........i take my little hat off 2 u guys 4 being strong n unshakeable whn our neighbours 4rm NaZoorena were busy throwng every kind of missile with an unbearable vulgar 2 you/us bt still u manage 2 handle them with patiancy n provide them with facts that were difficult 4 them 2 accept. Even our neighbours 4rm naZOOrena may u hav a happy
Marry christmas n properous New Year..... we love u even if u hate us 4 being succesful!

Jose Mourinho once said that some teams are not giving it all against Barcelona.Taking a leaf from his book Golden Arrows against Pirates is always going to be a win for the latter. This is a game that is honored for formality.

Congrats to you BuCOWneers, Im still catching my breath cause of the way you ran riot around the PSL, NFD, VODACOM and SAB CASTLE League TEAMS in the 2010/11 season (fact is that your team played ALL, I mean all the games since the beginning of the 2010/11 season and your still continueing).

The great football memories of the year 2011 belongs to your team cause throughout 2010 and this year you demonstrated a true mantle of a championship material, it wasnt a clean sweep but it was just mesmerising.

Please keep it up cause South African Football needs this kind of competitiveness.

Well done, BuCOWneers, well done!

*P.S ~ Please dont get it twisted though, Im still biasedly YELLOW cause Im your enemy and your rival that I SHALL REMAIN!

Yellow I Was, Yellow I Am & Yellow I Will Remain!

A good win but realistically we are not convinced, its like we are only serious in a game on the backfoot of a defeat then our team will pull up our socks.I'm worried and like Mriyo put it,we going to Africa and what do we expect with this yo-yo display!
Our team must be invincible,we must beat everything that cripple, that crawl and anything that walks or fly.
Anyway goodluck Mabhakaniya and everyone enjoy his/her festive and bo No PSL trophy, abo Tsetsefly please play it safe,we need your stupor in this forum.

@champ Mriyo... Whats wrong with you my champ really now..... What do you mean by saying Pirates is nothing without Jali..... Our win against Ajax was Jali playing..... Leal is a tactician he tried rotating players in games against wits, FSS and celtics and what happened.....

To champs my fellow champs in Godfrey, King, Diehardbucs, Motlokoa, Thabo Justin, Jack Sparrow, Dlhamaga, Mhlonitjhwa, Stan, Swona, Phenya and u negative Mriyo it was nice being with you in my maiden year on kickoff....

Let me not forget my rivals in swytes, brazillito, michael, all psl trophies, joe banana, zakumi.com, phemela and all other non important people on this blog...
