Kaizer Chiefs come from behind to beat Free State Stars

Posted: 17 December 2011 Time: 22:17

A horrible goalkeeping error from Free State Stars' Kennedy Mweene allowed Lincoln Zvasiya to score Kaizer Chiefs winning goal in the Amakhosi's 2-1 victory over the Ea Lla Koto in an Absa Premiership match at the FNB Stadium on Saturday night.

Edward Manqele scored for Stars while Sthembiso Ngcobo and Lincoln Zvasiya scored for Chiefs.

An injury to Dominic Isaacs during the warm-up and the suspension of Jimmy Tau saw the Amakhosi start with an inexperienced back four which included Willard Katsande (right-back) and Lincoln Zvasiya, both only making their second appearance in the league.

Still, despite a nervy looking Chiefs defence which was constantly breached in the first-half, they only conceded a single goal and were not completely out of the match going into the half time break.

That goal came in the 15th minute after a superb through ball saw Edward Manqele break behind the Chiefs defence and with only the keeper to beat the striker made no mistake.

Manqele drove into the box and unleashed a thunderbolt from 16-yards out that found the top left-hand corner of the net, scoring his fifth goal of the league season and handing his side the lead, 1-0.

Thereafter, Stars continued to breach the back four of Chiefs in the first half, but some poor finishing let them down. One instance in particular was in the 26th minute when Katlego Mashego missed open goals from ten-yards out as he completely missed the ball with a swing of his leg.

Nonetheless, take nothing away from the Ea Lla Koto who produced an entertaining 45 minutes and who would have been a little upset to only go into half time a goal up.

Stars would also have felt a little aggrieved when Arthur Bartman was not sent from the field in the 31st minute after blatantly handling the ball outside the box.

Again Manqele broke the off-side trap, but Bartman was quickly off his goal line and out of his box to stop the danger, illegally. The referee, though, took a lenient view and only showed him a yellow card.

The second half saw a change of fortunes as Chiefs were clearly the better side and somehow found their attacking form. Hence, they were able to create a couple chances on goal.

The Amakhosi were definitely more threatening in the final third of the field and skimmed the top side of the crossbar on two occasions.

All the drama, however, was reserved for the three minutes between the 77th – 80th minute.

Initially, the former Free State Stars man and second half substitute, Sthembiso Ngcobo, drew Chiefs level when he latched onto a right wing cross from Masango with a powerful ten-yard header that found the right corner of the goal, 1-1.

Three minutes later and a mistake from the normally reliable Mweene allowed the Amakhosi to take the lead.

Zvasiya tried his luck from 40-yards out and saw his effort bounce just in front of the Stars' keeper, who showed poor technique by not getting behind the ball, allowing it to bounce over him and into the left-side of the net, 2-1.

It was an error that saw Chiefs walk away victorious and now only one point behind the league leaders.

This leaque is there for the taking, the only thing that can cost us is VV.We've taken three points from three of the other four contenders, that is leaque-winning form.

Yes the referee made a bad call by not giving Batman a str8 red, but saying he got the brown envelope is just low considering that there a lot of bad decision made by referees this year alone. Chiefs won because dey scored more dan their opponents so deal with it suckers
