Mamelodi Sundowns beat SuperSport United in a League clash

Posted: 16 December 2011 Time: 19:50

SuperSport United were handed their second defeat in a row as Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns beat them 3-1 in an Absa Premiership clash from the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.

To rub salt into their wounds, it was former player Teko Modise who netted twice for Sundowns.

Atusaye Nyondo’s 27th minute strike was cancelled out by a Modise opportunist goal a minute later, before Nyasha Mushekwi doubled the lead and Modise sealed the win for Sundowns.

SuperSport were missing Anthony Laffor due to suspension and coach Gavin Hunt opted to hand a rare start to Mduduzi Nyanda.

The surprise exclusion was that of Mogogi Gabonamong, who Hunt replaced with Thabo September in the central defensive midfield role.

A rare attack from SuperSport in the 27th minute saw Nyondo give them the lead after an assisting by Tebogo Langerman.

Modise equalized with a toe poke after a terrible mistake by Moffat Mdluli allowed him to steal the ball and score just seconds after Nyondo’s goal.

Then Punch Masenemela set up Mushekwi to hand Sundowns the lead in the 48th minute.

Captain fantastic Modise put the final nail into the SuperSport coffin when he netted after a brilliant turn, showing signs of the old Modise.

The Brazilians are now on top of the Absa Premiership log on goal difference, and will look to cement this position when they clash with Free State Stars in their final match of the year on Wednesday 21 December.

I would to come to the defense of Dominquez Pelembe, reading some of the posts in this blog I get a feelin that there is a problematic doubt where his loyalty lies but I would like to politely remind the DOWNS supporters that the very same Pelembe that you are questioning at the moment was our player of the season for the 2010/11, he raised his hand time and again when everybody's performance was deflated, the boy carried the Brazilian bagde with zeal, enthuasiasm and great determination. I cant believe that the negative hype created by the media around this man can really generate uncertainty espicially when we are our quest to cönquer Msanzi. Pelembe will be a great Chloorkop asset for a very long time to come. The mischievous Mafia from Mayfair can try all his monkey business, but Pelembe will remain rooted where he belongs.

@Nka Walleski & @Khondlo-There is a very big misunderstanding here. Why are you taking things for granted? That i send negative analysis about the game does not mean im a hater.Yesterday's result left me very happy for obvious reason. After all bucs & sunflop's relation is not that bad.Even today im still excited by your famous 44 passes you did aganst that team.My problem here is i regard sunflops as a big & great team.No matter whatever we say about sunflops for rivality reasons, your team is one of the feared in psl, hence there is high expectations as far as exciting display is corncened especially when playing an inform team like S Sport who happen to be on top of the log. Then when i feel the display is opposite to what i expect despite the good result should we not say it out just like we applaud when they excel? No im not a hater but im just trying to say the truth.-Football 101 was mastered @ the university of Orlando.

I thought Chiefs fans were talking too much BUT Pirates are jus a def. of big mouths: So generally speaking where have you been hiding cos kickoff forum facility has been running for years:firstly. A derby means local teams engaging each other (it's n chiefs n' pirates) : Secondly, Tshwane derby doesn't end up ngama draws, thirdly, Downs is playing entertaining football (ask amakhosikazi what happened e-Loftus) and the list goes on: Currently, we sitting on top and we are prepared to give our coach more time: so our focus is future based, slowly but surely....

Truth is the only team that can beat Sundowns is Sundowns, the they are playing is marvelous to say the least. I'm happy to be a Downs fan cause what I'm witnessing is masterpiece. In Neeskins we believe.

This derby was action-packed, entertaining and attention-grabbing.

My team DOWNS in the 1st half gave us the fans, a game of precision, patience, sharp one-twos passes, elagant passing style, positional interchange between Pelembe & Mokoena, just pure free roaming movement amongst our midfielders which worked the ball through various channels of a defense-minded ZCC United team. It was evident that their plan was to fustrate our talented midfielders to the point of fatigue, which nearly paid off as they scored from their 1st chance they got.

THE GREAT GENERAL MODISE had other plans for them as he quickly equalised.

2nd half our quick goal unsettled both teams cause our middle-field lost the artistic creative spark that was present in the 1st half, ZCC United wanted to level the matters so they played a high-pressing game where they sacrificed their 4 line defence to 3, to complement a 3 strike offence, dissapointly DOWNS lacked the composure as the players were careless with possession by just kicking the ball upfront.

But for the last 20 mins plus the mesmerising philosophy of football wast back in display. wathcing a third goal was a true blessing.

Plenty of flair, clash of intricate tactics and goals GALORE, thats entertainment my friend!

Wonder, do you still remember that you said the samething about Habaz last season??

Anyway good game Downs.

@Diehard, what was boring u in that game??
The reason why your team will go for years without a major trophy is jealosy in Mayfair killing of ur own players through car accidents.

I don't support Sunkop clowns but they were nt unlucky like in the previous game against my beloved Khosi.
they deserved. Give it where it's due.
