Thomas Sweswe scores to hand Kaizer Chiefs win over Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 4 December 2011 Time: 17:34

A goal from Thomas Sweswe was enough to hand Mamelodi Sundowns their second loss of the season, although the day belonged to Arthur Bartman.

Sweswe scored his first ever goal in the PSL, but the glory of the Kaizer Chiefs win fell on the shoulders of their goalkeeper Bartman, who produced a number of quality saves and was rightly awarded Man of the Match.

The Brazilians dominated, controlling possession and having the majority of shots on goal. But after some stubborn defence from the Phefeni Glamour Boys and brilliant goalkeeping from Bartman, Chiefs were able to hold on for the win and move to 24 points on the log, joint third spot.

Chiefs did start the better of the two teams when they took the lead in the 12th minute, after Sweswe got onto the end of a superbly weighted right-wing free-kick from Siphiwe Tshabalala.

The Amakhosi defender headed home past a stranded Wayne Sandilands to make it 1-0.

After going behind, the Brazilians threw everything forward in attack, but found a formidable Bartman in their way.

In the 18th minute Nyasha Mushekwi drove through the middle of the Chiefs defence and found himself with only the keeper to beat, but Bartman produced a good one-on-one save.

Nine minutes later Themba Zwane pulled a pass back for Elias Pelembe on the edge of the 18-yard box, but his shot was superbly saved by Bartman diving low to his right.

In the 32nd minute Downs were denied by the woodwork, as a 25-yard shot from Teko Modise had the beating of Bartman but struck the left post and bounced away from danger.

The second half was more of the same as Chiefs defended for all their worth, while Sundowns pushed everyone forward.

Still, the Brazilians' only real chance of the half came in the 59th minute, and Bartman was there to deny them again.

The Amakhosi goalie produced another great double save, first to deny Siyanda Xulu from close range after a goalmouth scramble, and then punching the ball away as it pinballed around six-yard box.

In the end, the three points probably kept Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic in a job.

It takes stupid idiots like Sputladinoh n Tzozo 2 think that we wanted Sundowns 2 win. This proves that most chimps fans r clueless in soccer,yo win is exactly wats needed coz Sundunusa wil now make sure they bit SSU while yo average team wil go n draw wit FSS.Watch the Buccaneers close the gap to just one point b4 the christmas break.

Is VV now the special one again?

Our defence was at sixes & sevens in the 1st half but we were much better organised in the 2nd.Pity that Nale had to be sacrificed. He had his best game ever in a Chiefs shirt & did what he has to do always;i.e keep on going forward & get past players.Hopefully we have seen the last of Isaacs.

Shame mpya ke wena. Chiefs's win is hurting you big time. I,m sure you were one of those dogs that were hoping for a late Sundoms equalizer that never came. Are you angry that Chiefs win has taken the shine out of your win.

And oh, you are a typical Chibuku FC supporting FOOL. You beat a team that reduced Chiefs to nothing but Chiefs can say the same about your kak team. What was the score between Chiefs and Wits, the team that reduced your team to nothing.

Next time try to hide your disappointment ngwana wa magosha because it only makes our win even sweeter to know that our enemies are hurting.Lastly, voetsek, jou fokon hond, hu hu !

Mriyo don't be such a fool. Can't you see Chibuku FC fans have decided to keep their stinking mouths shut than come here and show their disappointment ? We know you morons would have preferred a draw or at worst a Sundowns win.

So that didn't happen and just accept it dimpya ke lona. Why are you guys bitter when we are happy that you stopped SSU ? could it be that you realise that you have no chance of another fluke league title ?

By the way last season around this time you were on top of the log only to win it in the last game by goal difference by sheer luck. That should tell you something sonof magosha.

eish Pirates must stop this Sundowns noise now.

Yes Sundowns will beat Chiefs and also beat SSU, while Pirates will cruise to Championship.

i said it when the season started, that the WAR is between Pirates and Sundowns because of the quality they have.

It is only fools who can believe that Sundowns were unlucky, yes sundowns missed four clear cut chances. Modise hit the post, Xulu's attemp was save by Bartman and Pelembe's attempt was also save by Bartman. Sandiland also saved Nale, Baloyi and Shabba clear cut chances. Bernard Parker had two clear cut chances he ballooned over the bar with Sandiland to beat hence the call by Chiefs supporters to have him replaced. What about Shabba's attempt that caused injury to young Ngumbane. The thing is if we based our argument on chances both team had the chance to win the game but the different is Chiefs were able to take one of their chances out of many they had. Incontrast Sundowns failed to convert any of their many chances. Yes Sundowns was dominating ball possessions but you don't always win games by playing nice passing game. Every time Chiefs was in the Sundowns goal area their defense was at sixes and sevens and when Sundowns went to Chiefs goal area they found Bartman, Sweswe, Jambo and Zvayisa in no charitable mood. That marks the different between championship teams and pretenders to the title. Chiefs is not Santos, it is a big team that deserve respect and as for Santos any teams is beating them these days except.

One of our reliable sources spotted Lucky Lekgwathi at Virgin Active busy lifting the weights. When asked why he was training so hard, he told them that he was preparing to lift the trophy on Saturday. It's nice to be a buccaneer.

Well said Pierre. This thing that Sundowns were unlucky is rubbish becos @chiefs also missed clear cut chances. Yes, Sundowns dominated play but failed to convert their chances. The game could have easily ended 4-0 in favour of Chiefs with all the ball possesion Sundowns had. Sundowns were amateurish in their approach. They seemed to think that a goal will ultimately come and went about playing with swagger and little purpose. Well done to Chiefs for teaching those mamparas that soccer is not boxing which can be won on points.
