Orlando Pirates beat SuperSport United 3-0 to hand Gavin Hunt’s side their first League loss of the season at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.

Goals from Benni McCarthy, Isaac Chansa and Ndumiso Mabena saw the Buccaneers to a deserved victory at Orlando Stadium and signalled that the reigning league champions will not relinquish their crown without a fight.

Both sides created half chances in the opening 20 minutes but Pirates were soon gifted a penalty when Davis Nkausu handled the ball in his own 18-yard area. Benni McCarthy stepped up to take the spot kick and fired it past Williams to make it 1-0 just before the midway point of the first half.

Ten minutes later it was 2-0 and McCarthy was once again at the heart of the action, initiating a superb attacking move that ended with Isaac Chansa firing a low shot into the back of the net to double the champions’ advantage.

Matsatsantsa coach Gavin Hunt made a double substitution even before half time but it did little to change the game, as Pirates made it 3-0 soon after the restart. Daine Klate whipped in a great cross from the left flank and Ndumiso Mabena flicked the ball home at the near post, with his effort finding the back of the net via the underside of the crossbar.

Pirates took their foot off the pedal after the third goal but SuperSport were still unable to lessen the deficit. Striker Atusaye Nyondo did force one good save out of Josephs with a well-struck drive in the 74thminute, but that was about as good as it got for the visitors.
