Orlando Pirates beat Ajax Cape Town in a league encounter

Posted: 30 November 2011 Time: 21:31

Orlando Pirates beat Ajax Cape Town 1-0 in a League match thanks to a goal from Thulasizwe Mbuyane.

It was the perfect start for the Buccaneers as some swift passing and intelligent inter-changes saw Mbuyane find the back of the net in only the fifth minute of the match.

Daine Klate picked up the ball on the left side of the field and played a well weighted pass to Benni McCarthy on the edge of the box who then laid the ball off to an unmarked Mbuyane ten-yards out. The Pirates man made no mistake side-footing the ball past a stranded Sander Westerveld, 1-0.

Five minutes later and Siyabonga Sangweni should have doubled his side’s lead when a right wing cross found its way to him, unmarked, at the back post and 12-yards out from goal. But the Buccaneers defender rushed his shot, when he had more time, and fired well over the target.

Pirates definitely controlled the opening exchanges of the first 45, but as the half progressed Ajax certainly found their footing and in fact finished the stronger of the two teams.

The closest the Urban Warriors came to finding an equaliser, though, came a minute before the break when Khama Billiat let fly with a stinging 22-yard shot that just skimmed the wrong side of the right hand upright.

The start of the second half saw Ajax looking the fresher side and they began dictating terms, but still, despite all their possession, they failed to even force Moeneeb Josephs into a save.

Instead, the first decent opening of the second Stanza went the way of Pirates in the 67th minute. A corner was whipped in and Mbuyane should have found his second goal when he met it with a powerful header, but his attempt went over the crossbar from six-yards out.

Finally, in the 79th minute Ajax forced Josephs into a significant save. Substitute Lebohang Manyama drove into the box and unleashed a 16-yard pile driver that was parried over the crossbar by the keeper.

In the final minute of regular time Josephs was called into action again, this time making one of the saves of the season as he denied George Maluleka from ten yards out, diving full stretch to his left to make the finger tip save to parry the shot away.

That save saw Pirates hold onto the lead and eventually the win.

Congrats mabhakaniya amahle for win against the youthful ajax n so wish i can celebrate without complain but i just cant cause leal is indeed not the best hence there is not rythym in our team.

To u leal how i wish u can chance ur non existant system of play tht utilises a lone striker to a more confortable n effective 442 so tht qe get score more goals n conceade less too.

Tsipaaa tse ntsho Tsipaaa until 'FB' win the Real Treble.

Ichuuuuuu wanthungela!!!!

Its hard to celebrate this.Khoza must not waite any time from now This is not a coach period. We sing of scoring more goals but he does the opposite.Does Khoza realy read these comments?Im very very angry.

Khoza must interview this coach why he defends after a 1-0 lead.I think he does not want more goals,he feels its ilegal to score more goals. This is no joke Machamps.Do you remember when he said a red card to opponents disturbed his plans when we were leading 1-0?He doesnt feel it right to score more goals aganst opponents.May be he is too old to think normaly.

Obviously,as we know how arrogant Dr Khoza is at times,we must try to invade training with some placards dinouncing the coach. In that way, Dr Khoza wl take some serious action. The Sunflops style is the best bafethu at this situation.

At the start of 2nd half,he should have replaced Ngobeni & Chansa with Talatou & Rantie(double substitution). In that way Ajax would never have put us under any pressure & we would have scored more goals.

I just wonder where is Kosta Papic. That we parted ways with him does not mean he can not be rehired.Even if it means re hiring Gordon Igarsund its much better. At times we must swallow our pride & negotiate with him & buy out his contruct at Swallows.Who on earth can decline to coach the best team with all resources needed by any successful team including suporters & best brand?

Bomakhala njalo was the nickname given to us by other soccer supporters not because we were bad but because of our ability to complain about everything....

Last season these were the issues with our team.. 'mayambela must start games' and after the TKO final they said 'ruud krol is too predictable'....

Leal is here to stay... Tebogo must futsek, he did it when papic was incharge he is doing it again, its sad that he is making our coach look bad... Leal is better than ruud krol.. If you dont believe me lets argue with figures.... A bunch of negative fans... High or low i am happy with our victory... Football 101 was mastered at the University of Orlando.

@Lordjerry:.Champ i dont mind losing with the best team, but losing while some best players are off the field, the coach must be liable for this.If the team has a slender lead or its 0-0 at half time then comes 2nd half,we are put under presure, having some of our best players on the bench, the normal thinking coach must take action before we conside a goal. But our Leal does the opposite instead.

I was there, I still need the reason 4 Tebogo Moloi 2 be on the bench! Before I easily see head coach's weakness- hell out Tebogo Moloi, U failed us in before. Do u remember last ABSA cup played in Durban, I went down with the team too- u fumbled there as well

Mr Khoza hv noticed that our coach is hvng a problem, there was a meetng where he advised the coach to utilise wing play cos we have quality wingers and good finisher of crosses, but it seem as if Mr leal is not willing to follow, where is speedy Mabalane. Mr khoza also sported tht thy is illdiscpline in th team cos this coach is unable to control his players nd worse the coach find it hard to talk, simple talking.

Bucs family patience my friends is virtue, it won't help bringing a new coach, where as,we do not give leal chance. The same krol that all you are crying for is the same coach at some point you wanted to get rid of in the first season. I an not happy either with our current form.

But the least we can do is support our team. Krol ain't coming back, leave with it.we have a new coach now, do not take the bad habits at sundowns please champs.all of you are crying foul over spilled milk, it won't help.

You hated juju so much last season, look at how he is now.

Let us not pick bad habits along the way from our neighbors please.

Let's support juju as i blv he's the reason behind our 3ble! Viva juju viva! We're surely turning da corner & very soon, we wil b at the top! Up the Bucs!

MABAHAKANIYA all of you are so NEGATIVE.

instead of celebrating the birth and rise of new star at Pirates Mr TALATO aka TALATALA.

Let me remind all of you that Leal is also new at Pirates and stil finding himself.

WOW the JUJU man in his natural position, BOOTH had tough day in office. I am so proud of the JUJU boy, when we BOO him, its because we know he is capable beyond his standards. I LOVE YOU JUJU.

Dane Klate is finding his tune - why dont we celebrate this.

Nzunga is another positive - The boy is not scared, we could find Jele's replacement soon.

I was impressed with Chansa, played on the wing to destruct pace of Ajax. He is the most comfortable player on the ball.

The Slim kat aka Garfield......what a leader this boy is, The master of clean sheets himslef.

Sangweni,Jali,Mahamutsa,Legwathi,Ngobeni and Benni in the 18 area are consistent players.

Leal is a good listener, u wanted him to introduce Sox as a sub, he did that,
