Orlando Pirates beat Ajax Cape Town in a league encounter

Posted: 30 November 2011 Time: 21:31

Orlando Pirates beat Ajax Cape Town 1-0 in a League match thanks to a goal from Thulasizwe Mbuyane.

It was the perfect start for the Buccaneers as some swift passing and intelligent inter-changes saw Mbuyane find the back of the net in only the fifth minute of the match.

Daine Klate picked up the ball on the left side of the field and played a well weighted pass to Benni McCarthy on the edge of the box who then laid the ball off to an unmarked Mbuyane ten-yards out. The Pirates man made no mistake side-footing the ball past a stranded Sander Westerveld, 1-0.

Five minutes later and Siyabonga Sangweni should have doubled his side’s lead when a right wing cross found its way to him, unmarked, at the back post and 12-yards out from goal. But the Buccaneers defender rushed his shot, when he had more time, and fired well over the target.

Pirates definitely controlled the opening exchanges of the first 45, but as the half progressed Ajax certainly found their footing and in fact finished the stronger of the two teams.

The closest the Urban Warriors came to finding an equaliser, though, came a minute before the break when Khama Billiat let fly with a stinging 22-yard shot that just skimmed the wrong side of the right hand upright.

The start of the second half saw Ajax looking the fresher side and they began dictating terms, but still, despite all their possession, they failed to even force Moeneeb Josephs into a save.

Instead, the first decent opening of the second Stanza went the way of Pirates in the 67th minute. A corner was whipped in and Mbuyane should have found his second goal when he met it with a powerful header, but his attempt went over the crossbar from six-yards out.

Finally, in the 79th minute Ajax forced Josephs into a significant save. Substitute Lebohang Manyama drove into the box and unleashed a 16-yard pile driver that was parried over the crossbar by the keeper.

In the final minute of regular time Josephs was called into action again, this time making one of the saves of the season as he denied George Maluleka from ten yards out, diving full stretch to his left to make the finger tip save to parry the shot away.

That save saw Pirates hold onto the lead and eventually the win.

FIRST OF ALL CONGRATS BUCS... IT'S GOOD TO BE BACK TO WINNING WAYS. I HAVE TO SAY I'M NOT ENTIRELY IMPRESSED WITH HOW WE WON. I KNOW A WIN IS A WIN BUT SOME OF THESE GAMES WE GOT TO WIN IMPRESSIVELY. I LONG TO SEE THOSE DAY WHERE YOU CAN SEE US DOMINATING THE ENTIRE GAME. WE TEND TO SIT BACK AFTER SCORING ONE GOAL. THIS MENTALITY SHOULD STOP. WE ALWAYS SHOW FIGHTING SPIRIT WHEN WE'RE TRAILING. WE'VE GOT QUALITY AND SOMETIMES I WONDER WHY OUR COACH DON'T WANT TO UTILIZE IT. IF I WAS A COACH I WOULD PLAY RANTIE EVERYTIME. THE BOY HAS SKILL AND IS FAST. HE KNOWS HOW TO TAKE ON THE DEFENDERS. ANYWAY, WE GOT OUR 3 PNTS. ONCE AND ALWAYS A CHAMP

What is Tebogo's gripe now? has he forgotten that he is not the coach?
If this is how he is going to repay the loyalty Dr Khoza showed in him by giving him this job without an interview nor CV then he must voetsek before he destroys our team. His behaviour is unprofessional he is second in command with instructions from the headcoach.

Iam worried very worried please remove Tebsa from the bench.

Not a bad win since they all count. But 1-0 not good enuf for a team like Pirates' calibre against Ajax. It shoulda been 3-0 at least. Hai maan maar this Leal charater is chewing us down bit by bit. We want consistency. Leal, shape up or ship out. Or, since u on the Pirates ship, we shoot u off the ship and let u swim with the fishes.

Shapa Bucs, SHAPAAAAA!!!!!!

You guys are right the problem with Leal is that he promised us a win with an entertaining football which is not the case now and he is worse that Krol. Then one wonders why Krol was fired.

The promotion of former 'legends' must done away with. The team is wobbly, understandably so but why should Tebogo pour salt on the wound. Khoza must show Tebogo the door and employ a disciplined and qualified person in his place. Our downfall will not be from other teams but personnel within. Your attitude stinks, Tebza the son of legendary Chippa-Chippa Moloi....

I TAKE MY HAT OFF YOU BUCCANEERS... YOU REALLY KNOW YOUR SOCCER. I POSTED MY FIRST COMMENT BEFORE READING WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID ABOUT THE GAME. AND MOST OF US ARE NOT HAPPY THE WAY THE TEAM PLAYED EVEN THOUGH WE WON. MUCH RESPECT TO YOU CHAMPS.... I KNOW SOME TEAMS WOULD BE MAKING A LOT OF NOISE IF THEY GOT A POINT THEY WAY WE PLAYED. THIS REALLY SHOWS THAT WE'RE USED TO GOOD FOOTBALL AND PUSH FOR THE BEST. LET'S KEEP ON MAKING HISTORY. ONCE AND ALWAYS A CHAMP.

Tebogo was a good player and that does not make him a good coach. He must vamoos and go back to SS4 analysis team. He knows nothing about coaching. The least said about Leal the better.

ther r a few prblms i hav wth our coach. 1st prblem is that he seems 2 hav favrts. i mean chansa has nt bin perfmng 4 sumtym nw bt he stil plays hm. 2cndy his subtitudes rises alot of questions. pirates iz a team wth alot of depth nd ryt nw da material we hav at pirates iz nt being used 2 the fullest. had it not been 4 ths galaxy of stars we hav onboard, leal waz gna b exposed. wen krol left we wer promisd an excitng brand of football, bt we havnt seen any thas far. i love ths team nd i wil continue doing so 4 a vri long time 2 cum. BUCANEER BY BIRTH. ONCE ND ALWAYZ.

Firstly i'm glad we won but , sho leal neh, this guy really puzzles me at times. Untill when will we play with one striker plus midfied cumstriker ? Why do we still struggle and that after all this time, aren't we suppose to go allout attack cause i thought we were the home side. Yerrr i'm happy and frustrated at once, mxm this coach is gonna keep on being defensive minded and with a galaxy of highly potent stars, yerrr may he eventually come right, i dont hope but PRAYS. AMEN!!

Jah we had a good coach in krol although some thought his style was boring where as the guy was under pressure to deliver the league to us after we had such a long, very long and hard to swallow dry spell of a near decade. Eventually the coach would've had given us exiting football (the real total football) but no some made bigger noizes then what was needed, not appreciating what we had and achieved with sir rudi and now we reaping the rotten Fruit for that rotten mentality of those few. Yerrr i'm so dissapointed with dr. k, the boss really got it very wrong this time and now again i'm suffering tonight allover again (though we won). What kind of football are we playing, what formations is the moron coach using, why keep players on the field which clearly were out of their dept, what the hell is going on at pirates, damn it is sooo frustrating, yerrr!! Khoza better bring back my rudi, jah i dont care who says what but leal needs to be removed now if we have any ambition of conquering the african continent next year or all hopes will be turned into a big boll of smoke. OPERATION BRING BACK SIR KROL IN FULL SWING FROM NOW, I CAN'T TAKE ANYMORE SUFFERING FROM THIS CON MAN, HE GOT KHOZA BUT NOT ME. MXM!
