Orlando Pirates comeback for a 1-1 draw with Moroka Swallows

Posted: 2 November 2011 Time: 21:34

Moroka Swallows were seconds away from a Soweto Derby win over Orlando Pirates, but a late Happy Jele goal meant the match ended a 1-1 draw.

Swallows could have moved to second on the log had they held onto their 1-0 lead – handed to them thanks to a simply brilliant goal from David Mathebula in the first half – but they paid for trying to hold onto their lead, when they enjoyed long periods of dominance in the match.

After a quiet opening quarter hour in which both teams struggled to find their rhythm, Pirates suddenly created an opening to put striker Bongani Ndulula one-on-one with Greg Etafia but the goalkeeper made an excellent save with his feet.

Pirates looked solid in defence but on 21 minutes they were forced into an unscheduled change when left-back Ruben Cloete was withdrawn due to injury.

Youngster Sibusiso Mxoyana came on and looked a bundle of nerves, which saw Bucs’ defensive stability severely compromised.

On the half hour mark Swallows took advantage, with midfielder Mathebula scoring a contender for goal of the season – a long rang screamer that gave Moeneeb Josephs absolutely no chance of a save.

Swallows looked the likelier scorers in what remained of the first half but they were unable to add to their advantage, leaving the game 1-0 in their favour at the interval.

In the second half Swallows withdrew into a more defensive mode as they looked to hit Pirates on the counter.

The hosts began to throw more and more men forward in an effort to get back on level terms.

Yet Bucs did create some good openings, particularly with just 10 minutes to play when a great low cross from Tlou Segolela handed substitute Tukelo Rantie a chance he could not miss ... yet somehow he did.

Fortunately for the youngster his miss didn’t prove too costly, as Jele headed from close range in the dying seconds from a scuffed cross-shot by Segolela.

It was harsh on The Birds, who arguably deserved all three points for their controlled performance.

Pirates players play like a soft d!ck inside a hornie v@gina!

Pathetic, Clueless, not creative and directionless football!

Where was Ouma Manyisa!

Ndulula will always be a used condom!

Lilian, is starting to feel the heat, but I am not surprise by Lilian stupid tactics...I hate Brazilain football.

Mahamutsa is a liaibility...he is thinks that a football pitch is a shebeen, whereby you can shout the shebeen owner as you like without reprimanding, LoL!

Pirates, lacks depth...Period!

If Krol's tried and teated players are not there, Leal becomes clueless...hence I don't rate him as a top coach unless Pirates is a small team. Leal must find his own winning combination and leave Krol's winning combination alone.

This Coach is Clueless, Mark my words, "HE IS GOING TO COST PIRATES A LOT"

Vivian and Lilian are both walking pver a tight rope!

If a defending champ is nine points behind log leaders...then there is something wrong with the Champs.FINISH EN KLAAR!!!

This league will be contested by Supersport, Chiefs, Sundowns and Swallows! The rest ningayofa!

@Summerrain!,

Hobbos have a never say die attitude even though they were chased away from the family home by bobby they are still trying to return. He he he he!!!! Mbuyane's last minute goal against the family business handed us the treble. Thansks to the family business for their generous contribution to our treble. Swallows did it too, contributing to our Fourble.

@MAKOPOROSH,

There is nothing wrong with the Champs, the leaders now will lose some of the games, their time is coming. Even last season, the leader was not the team that won the marathon.

Chiefs contesting the league? Do you mean the family business that I know? He he he hhe!!! Are you for really? There is no contest the champions will successfully defend it and even go all the way to defend the Telkom for the family business!

THIS PLAYERS WILL BE AGAINST ANOTHER ELEVEN SWALLOWS PLAYERS. SO WHAT IS THE DIFFERNCE THERE? ELEVEN AGAINST ELEVEN. A TEAM THAT TAKE ITS CHANCES WIN...FINISH EN KLAAR!

SO, DO'T COME HERE WITH YOUR "STRONG" STARTING ELEVEN AND THINK THAT PEOPLE WILL BE SCARED.

FREE FOOTBALL 101 FOR YOU...

YOU WIN THE MATCH BY SCORING GOALS NOT SCRAPING THEM.

EXAMPLE. MATHEBULA'S GOAL WAS CREATED IN A RUN OF PLAY, WHILST SWALLOWS WAS CREATIVE..BOOM...1-0.

LET'S GO HAPPY JELE'S SCRAPPY GOAL, SEGOLELA WAS NOT EVEN CREATING HE WAS TAKING HIS CHANCES (HOW SCRAPPY WAS THAT) AND THE BALL GOT JELE IN AN OFFISIDE POSITION...

LOOK AT PIRATES AND SWALLOWS PAST EIGHT MATCHES AND YOU WILL SEE NOTICE A TREND...PIRATES DOES NOT SCORE MORE THAN ONE GOAL WHISLT SWALLOS SCORE MINIMUM OF THREE...IF i WERE YOU I WAS GOING TO BE WORRIED.

LEAL KNOWS THAT SWALLOWS IS HIS BIG TEST SO FAR.

SWALLOWS CAN PLAY SHORT PASSING GAME, WAITING GAME, LONG B@LLS AND WING PLAY. THERE IS A LOT OF VARIATION FROM SWALLOWS THAN FROM PIRATES..PASSING, PASSING AND PASSING...ISN'T THAT PREDICTABLE (bRAZILIAN FOOTBALL THING)

SO, AGREE WITH ME WHEN I SAY UNDER KROL, PIRATES HAD A LOT OF VARIATIONS!

THAT WAS FOOTBALL 101 FOR YOU...IF YOU NEED FOOTBALL 102...CONTACT ME AT FOOTBALL102@MAKOPOROSH.AC.ZA

@MAKOPOROSH,

You have nothing to say, so just shut that mouth of yours, you dont even have a home, Bobby told you to get off. You adopted Swallows did not create chances, what they scored was a half chance after taking a ball from midfield by fouling our player. We had many clear cup chances, that goal was scrappy and offside only in your chimp mind. it was a good perfect goal, yes tlou was not crossing but it became a cross.

Champs, we may have drawn yesterdays game but the is a lot of positives from that game we must embrace. That Rantie boy must be given a starting line up opportunity, forget about his one and only lapse in concentration miss, he managed to beat an offside but controversially so judged to be by that relative of Qubule Zebra, the linesman. He provided a defence splitting pass to Ace inside the 16 area which found him still sleeping on the day. You match him with Mc Carthy, sht will hit the fan.

After watching yesterdays game again, Champs, I am now convinced that anyone who wants to take the league will have to get rid of us first, forget about those on top, I watched SS scoring a last minute goal to win but watching the out of sorts Pirates securing a draw with 3 seconds to go, Champs it takes guts and a "never give up" spirit.

He, He, offside my foot, Gordon is happy with the draw and now doesn't complain because Replays don't lie...

We must forgive our boys for the under-performance that was still good enough to steal a draw from the strongest Swallows lineup which can't be stronger than this on Saturday evening.

Lets rally behind our team on Saturday and surely they will make us proud.

Ayeye.. its about time the wings are clipped
