Pirates and AmaZulu end goalless

Posted: 15 October 2011 Time: 22:04

AmaZulu have held League champions Orlando Pirates to a 0-0 draw in Johannesburg, but the home side were guilty of missing some really good scoring opportunities.

Pirates goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs was hardly tested throughout the match and probably struggled to keep himself awake.

Fortunately he did not fall asleep deep into referee’s optional time because this is when AmaZulu had two of their best chances on goal.

Substitute Kagiso Senamela almost broke Pirates hearts during the four minutes of injury time, but overall Usuthu were outplayed by the home side and Roger Palmgren’s men will be very happy to go home with a point.

After 18 minutes Pirates winger Sameehg Doutie had ball in the back of the net, but he was incorrectly called offside and then booked for playing on after the whistle.

Referee Phillip Tinyane did not recover from this mistake and made some poor decisions throughout the match, often leaving the coaches perplexed on the touchline.

In the 22nd minute Lucky Lekgwathi’s headed goal was ruled out for an infringement on the goalkeeper, which to Tinyane’s credit, looked like the correct call.

Andile Jali unleashed a stinging drive in the 32nd minute, which had the beating of Mbongeni Mzimela, only to thunder off the goalkeeper’s crossbar.

In the 55th minute, Thulasizwe Mbuyane couldn’t keep his header down from a good position after he got onto the end of Klate’s cross. A good opportunity missed.

This underpinned an evening in which Pirates lacked composure and correct decision making inside the final third of the field.

With just under fifteen minutes to go, Mbuayne was guilty of missing a very good chance. Klate beat his man on the left and whipped in an inviting cross, but Mbuyane, although he did well to dive towards the ball, the direction was totally off and will go down as a bad miss.

Kagiso Senamela went very close in referee’s optional time, against the run of play, but his powerful attempt flew just over the bar.

Senamela was making his Usuthu return while Stanley Kgatla was on debut for Usuthu. Both came on as second half substitutes. They were signed as free agents after Platinum Stars had released them.

good observation champ. i found it 2 b ignorant 4 bucs fans failure 2 mention the players commitment, energy n urgency...something we lacked in the past, wth the reten of chansa things seem to fall into rightfull positions

jali played well but i thought leal will substitude him for bester n move chansa 2 the midfield since he was strugling 2 walk n showed signs of being injured....but jalis heart refused, the last time we had such a playa, it was tso vilakazi n then there was thabo rastafarian mgomeni(each n every time they do the cross bones i remember these great legend)

sunscream is working wonders on kaizers chubaba, its time u introduce nightcream since sunscream cant work in the night n kaizer is struggling wth some sleep

We played well as a team and It is premature 2 panic! Leal is building the team & very soon result will come. We needed some individual brilliance and Jali was unlucky wid crosbar and my captain's goal was disallowed as usual. It is a marathon, Bucs will bounce back! Write us off at your own peril. Once & always until Tau & vivian reconcile and win the league. Up the Bucs!

it has been proved on KO

big teams who deseve couverage played yesterday. teams like downs n bucs. there is no game today, no impotant fixture, just two relegation candidates 4 this season trying 2 collect points as early as possible so that wen bucs start the engine they will already be save from relegation but not secured enough wth the play-offs

the only intresting thing about loepards n chimps is that bush n mountain soca will be played at a world cup stadium...

I know i'm crying for spilled milk but i still maintain that letting otorogu go was a big blunder since we don't have a luxury in that department, i would also like to see the coach paring Benie with Drogba, we don't seem to like playing with stikers i know in the modern football anyone can score not neccessarily strikers but we need srikers as their jobs is to score goals! we will go to the top where we belong BUCS lets just rally behind the team and show them the support that they need! it is in times like these that real supporters are seperated from loud-mouths!
