Pirates and AmaZulu end goalless

Posted: 15 October 2011 Time: 22:04

AmaZulu have held League champions Orlando Pirates to a 0-0 draw in Johannesburg, but the home side were guilty of missing some really good scoring opportunities.

Pirates goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs was hardly tested throughout the match and probably struggled to keep himself awake.

Fortunately he did not fall asleep deep into referee’s optional time because this is when AmaZulu had two of their best chances on goal.

Substitute Kagiso Senamela almost broke Pirates hearts during the four minutes of injury time, but overall Usuthu were outplayed by the home side and Roger Palmgren’s men will be very happy to go home with a point.

After 18 minutes Pirates winger Sameehg Doutie had ball in the back of the net, but he was incorrectly called offside and then booked for playing on after the whistle.

Referee Phillip Tinyane did not recover from this mistake and made some poor decisions throughout the match, often leaving the coaches perplexed on the touchline.

In the 22nd minute Lucky Lekgwathi’s headed goal was ruled out for an infringement on the goalkeeper, which to Tinyane’s credit, looked like the correct call.

Andile Jali unleashed a stinging drive in the 32nd minute, which had the beating of Mbongeni Mzimela, only to thunder off the goalkeeper’s crossbar.

In the 55th minute, Thulasizwe Mbuyane couldn’t keep his header down from a good position after he got onto the end of Klate’s cross. A good opportunity missed.

This underpinned an evening in which Pirates lacked composure and correct decision making inside the final third of the field.

With just under fifteen minutes to go, Mbuayne was guilty of missing a very good chance. Klate beat his man on the left and whipped in an inviting cross, but Mbuyane, although he did well to dive towards the ball, the direction was totally off and will go down as a bad miss.

Kagiso Senamela went very close in referee’s optional time, against the run of play, but his powerful attempt flew just over the bar.

Senamela was making his Usuthu return while Stanley Kgatla was on debut for Usuthu. Both came on as second half substitutes. They were signed as free agents after Platinum Stars had released them.

Gentlemen Pirates is on the right track if only our players can start converting the numerous chances that we are creating. We are only seven points off the pace and that is not atrain smash considering that we once led Chiefs by eleven points only to end up losing the league to them during the Papic era.Remember it is not how u start but how u finish that counts.KEEP HEART THE GHOST AND LETS CONTINUE SUPPORTING OUR TEAM

Congratulations to PieRats for beating AmaZulu as they said they would.

I'm sure PieRats regret the day they let Go of the Legendary Ruud Krol,He knew how to turn things around for Rats

What did u say abt the ref? Do u always have to blame the ref for your poor showing

As I said before. Rudi krol's shoes are 2 big 4 Leal. The wins dat pirates had at the beginning with of the season was only the momentum they carried from last season. Leal failed 2 ressurect da Dube birds, nw luk wat Igusand is doing at swallows!

We are playing rubbish and its not acceptable & our coach keep telling that the leaque is long we shall regroup!team are scoring goals and collecting maximum points.Khoza must charge this coach for poor showing,if it means replacing him early in the season we must go for it.we may have won the MTN 8 but remember we played against a handicap team which is far from championship material.

Amazulu came for a single. We all saw that with in the first 10min. If you have 5mid-field players you don't need 4 defenders. Benni should have came in for our captain. I'm very disappointed but we looked better today than the previous match.

Cud this be the begining of the end as far as defending our league tittle is concerned?

As much as i hate to say it i think Krols was better than Leal or its the players who r to blame?my concern is our main problem still continues tht is lack of goals with players tht we have.

Leal i think u shud be warned tht we r not patient people so u better start cracking those results or else step down my friend.

Tsipa tse ntsho Tsipaaaa till no mater what.

Maar why Mabena, why Mabena when he is costing us so many games!why is Benni not starting games, why is Bester not playing.there is a problem & this coach is tearing our team.we just play for the sake of playing.no affection nothing!I'm afraid we are heading for disaster.we are trying to build a strong team to compete in Africa but I don't think this coach has what it takes.he is the typical talkative coach whose delivery is very poor!

Look, u can't blame Leal for what is taking plc. It is us da supporters who wanted beautiful football instead of results orientated football. By doing so we put management under pressure and assisted them in making da dumbest decision 2 nt renew da contract of a treble winning coach and instead hire a new coach who da players r stil 2 understand. Nw, what wil b even more dumb is 2 get rid of da current coach wen clearly dis was 2 b expected dat we wud struggle initially as both coach and players need 2 understand each other first. I just hope dat da team has clicked by da time da champions league starts and I think dat da champions league should b our main target as winning it will be worth so much more to us as team and even da nation particular after non qualification of Bafana 4 da Nations cup.
