Golden Arrows beat Kaizer Chiefs in Polokwane

Posted: 28 September 2011 Time: 21:12

George Lebese missed a penalty in the dying minutes as Kaizer Chiefs lost 2-1 to Golden Arrows at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Arrows had led 2-0 at halftime after goals from Collins Mbesuma and Musa Bilankulu.

However, Chiefs were much better after the break and pulled one back through substitute Lebese.

They were then awarded a chance to grab a share of the spoils after a horror decision by referee Robert Sithole, but Lebese fired wide.

The opening minutes of the match saw both teams passing the ball around crisply and accurately on what was an immaculate playing surface.

However, just as Chiefs started to gain the ascendancy, some poor marking saw them go a goal behind in the 13th minute – Mbesuma tapping in after Itumeleng Khune spilled Dillon Sheppard’s volley.

Amakhosi were unable to create any real clear-cut chances on goal. Instead, their only real shot on goal was an outrageous effort from Tefu Mashamaite in the 22nd minute – a shot-cum-clearance from the halfway line which forced Helton da Rocha into a smart save.

Four minutes later, however, and the home side saw themselves going a second goal behind, again through some slack marking. Sheppard whipped a corner into the box and Bilankulu got his head to the ball, ahead of the defence, at the front post, flicking it into the goal.

The start of the second half saw Vladimir Vermezovic make an immediate change, replacing Josta Dladla with Lebese – and it paid off right away.

Only seven minutes after the restart and Lebese pulled a goal back for Chiefs after a left foot cross from Jimmy Jambo was deflected and fell to the substitute just inside the 18-yard box. He made no mistake, powerfully driving the ball into the roof of the net.

The rest of the half saw Arrows sitting back in defence trying to defend their lead and, thanks to some poor finishing by Chiefs, they were able to hold onto it.

Lebese’s miss from the spot was just reward for a horrible decision by the match official, and bought Arrows coach Ernst Middendorp some more time to try and save his job.

Defending mistakes in the 1st half caused us the 3pnts. Arrows played well in the 1st half.

Maybe u can correct me if I'm wrong, but you are 2-0 down in less than 30minutes(in the 1st half), where are the so called senior Bafana players(Shabba, Yeye, Parker) to carry the team? Something is wrong in the Naturena camp, the sooner this is addressed the better.

Otherwise, well done to Arrows and keep the momentum going.

Khosi for life (This Rise thing is killing our team). I'm yet to see a GOOd performance by Chiefs. We win dirty, we loose convincingly

Brown envelop did not work as God is not a fool. I don't knw why Parker & Majoro are regarded as Bafana strikers. Yeye, sister shaba & Khune must warm da bench 4 bafana as they're average week in & out! Vivian's days are numbered.

VV its time you leave our beloved team cause you dont have trust in youth yet your madalas are doing nothing and whatever hidden agenda you have against nale is not helping either.you dont trust your reserves but you told us you are satisfied with the squad at begining of season just to please bobby forgetting we are the one who pay our hard earned money to be entertained.

The points we are losing at this stage of the lig are gonna haunt us come end of the czn. It luks lyk VV has no ace up his sleeve. Chiefs just lukd flat tonite. No creativity n no leadership. Senior players are not coming to the fore. The only consolation is that evry team is dropping points.

Guys, if The Kaiser can't sack the f*** VV, we supporters must make it easy for him. Then he can say I can longer guarantee your safety. Only VV can explain why he substituted a striker (Parker) for a defensive midfielder (Baloyi) when the team was trailing. An obvious choicw would have been Katsande. The team lacked dimension upfront without Majoro, who make good runs. And for heavens' sake, Shabba's strenth is on the wing. So with no wing play & crosses (left & right) the team becomes too predictable- as seen against Celtic. Yet VV persisted with same line-up. Judging by the body language of some players, there are those who don't care because they are aware of VV's shortcomings & how he has lost the plot. Soon you will hear reports of division in the team.

Lebogang, isn't Katsande a defenfensive midfielder as well?I think the problem with chiefs is that they don't play according to their strengths.A player like Ncgobo will thrive on crosses but even when Shabba is playing as a winger he seldom bring high crosses in for Sthembiso. If Ncgobo can play for another team he will thrive because I don't think chiefs play suit him.I just hope I'm wrong to say that Majoro is selfish sometimes, like 2day on the 46th minutes after break he could have left a ball for Lebese.Against Ajax he could also have left the ball for Josta.

Judging by the comments here, it seems to me that Kaizer Chiefs is the Biggest team in Africa. Look how many people from next door are commenting, this Team is loved by Us and our enemies.

The current Generation of players are the ones making our Brand weak and Bobby is doing a good Job of destroying what Snr built

The problem @ Chiefs is lack of leadership on the field. How do you let a young player lyk Lebese take a penalty @ such a crucial stage of the game. Senior players are not leading. As for VV he shud stop substituting 4 de sake of substituting. Why pull out Majoro 4 Ncqobo without any visible change in strategy.
