Ajax Cape Town come back to punish Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 18 September 2011 Time: 16:58

Ajax Cape Town scored three goals in the second half to steal a 3-2 win away to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Lebohang Mokoena opened the scoring for Sundowns in the 30th minute, and the game went into half-time with the home side 1-0 up.

But with Maartin Stekelenburg's advice to his team to "have fun" and play the ball, Ajax came back through Terror Fanteni and Nhlanhla Vilakazi.

Punch Masenamela got his first goal for Sundowns on 83 minutes to level the scores, but Khama Billiat got the winner in injury time.

The Brazilians would have returned to the top of the log had they claimed all three points. Instead they are placed third on 10 points, two adrift of leaders Kaizer Chiefs. Ajax are fourth, also on 10 points.

Sundowns dominated the first half and opened the scoring on 30 minutes when Mokoena curled home a left-footed shot through a crowd of defenders. The Sundowns attacker capitalised on a rebound after Sean Roberts had saved from a snap shot by Katlego Mphela.

Franklin Cale almost doubled the hosts’ lead six minutes later with a dipping volley that crashed back into play off the crossbar.

The second half was much more evenly matched and Ajax started their comeback on 62 minutes when Fanteni controlled a long ball out of defence, pushed into space and unleashed a fierce shot that Wayne Sandilands was helpless to stop.

Just over 10 minutes later the Cape side went in front for the first time. Lebogang Manyama unleashed a long range shot that was saved by Sandilands – however, the ball rolled free in the penalty area and Vilakazi had an easy task to fire the ball home and make it 2-1.

With eight minutes to play, Sundowns set up the game for a dramatic finale by making it 2-2. Masenamela picked up the ball on the edge of the Ajax penalty area and fired a left-footed drive into the back of the net. Roberts got a hand on the shot, but it had too much power to be pushed aside.

The game seemed to be there for Sundowns to win in the dying minutes, but instead it was the Urban Warriors who provided the late heroics.

In the first minute of injury time Ajax sliced open the Brazilians’ defence and Billiat – who had been completely anonymous throughout the regulation 90 – popped up to slide home the winning goal at 3-2.

Sandilands is a liability, his positioning leaves a lot to be desired, most of the time he is parked yards away from the goal line. I had a lot of respect for Teko Modise during his days at Pirates and have always dreamt that he will woke up from his slumber but its just not happening, Okpako looks a better deal in his position

These people are not called flops/clowns/45MinutesTeam for nothing though. I wouldn't be making such comment if I wouldn't've read wat Sundowns fans were saying after my team lost to Chiefs yesterday.

Sundowns needs some serious consolidation at the back before every team realises that their weakness is in defence. I'm confident to say Sundowns are gonna concede more than 30 goals this season should Neeskens carry on with defenders like Mphahlele.

One thing for sure is Pirates is gonna capitalize on that sloppy defence next week and we all know no one comes out Victorious in Orlando stadium.

Of the Top 5 Sundowns flops of recent times, Trott Moloto's humped shower head was involved, the attrocities include:
1. Traffic-flow Tshilo.
2. R24 Mphahlele.
3. Worrying Sandilands.
4. Tshepo Ramokala.
5. Abdul Salami.

It's clear Trott must be pushed out, bleddy traitor! Nx.

When Sundowns came back from 2-1 down, I thought that Ajax may crack but they finished so confidently with a goal of class. Also revealed cracks in Sundowns defensive technique. Well done to Ajax for two good wins this week. Last season, they gave it away on the last day at home and they need to build toward a strong challenge for the title this season - there is definitely the skill and determination to do so.

finally the selfish khama billiat scored his first goal of the season against mamabadala sunclowns because they lack depth in their back four, some of their fans are now accusing ramahlwe mphahlele of not being effective at the right back while they were praising him before he signed for these carreer destroyers f.c

Sundowns can beat Pirates in your dull dreams. By the way moriri and masenamela were by far your best players. Against pirates you will be buying for their heads.

By the way the ref had a wonderful day there were no blanders. To sunclowns faithfools you better pray and hope that gqubule is the referee for this encounter only he can save you. Football 101 was mastered by Orlando Pirates.

Sundowns are paying for the corruption in that team. Players are jisty signed so that sum ppl can get kickbacks. Ramahlwe Mphahlele is an amateur.
