Bucs miss a host of chances but get the three points

Posted: 14 September 2011 Time: 21:20

Orlando Pirates were wasteful in front of goal but still managed to secure a 1-0 Absa Premiership victory over Santos at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night.

A single goal from striker Ndumiso Mabena just before halftime was enough to give The Buccaneers all three points.

Santos made a bright start to the match and Pirates goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs had to be at his absolute best to keep out an effort from Vuyisile Wana as he turned the striker’s shot around the post.

Bongani Ndulula should have done better with a short free-kick awarded inside the Santos box as Zairon van Beulen’s backpass was inexplicably picked up by Lee Langeveldt in the home goal. The Pirates striker blasted his effort over the bat though.

The game looked to be drifting towards halftime before Pirates grabbed the lead as Mabena rose highest to head home Daine Klate’s corner.

Mabena might have made it 2-0 soon after the break but his shot misses the target with the keeper beaten.

Langeveldt produced an excellent save to deny substitute Rudolf Bester with his first touch of the game after coming on, while at the other end, Santos’ on-loan midfielder from Kaizer Chiefs, Siyabulela Songwiqi, forced a fine save again from Josephs.

Pirates continued to create chances but failed to find the back of the net. In the end, one goal was enough and Bucs take home the points.

what is a narrow win now Kick Off.

i mean Pirates did n't use its regulars yet secured a win.

it was good seeing Douti, Mayambela, Bester,Ngobeni and Mabena

i am also happy that Ndulula played for 88 min,

THE BEST OR NOTHING....

Totalfootball: we just came from a cup final, the guys are exhausted man and players used today are rusty.

We are still on cloud 9, 8million is a lot of money.

1 goal is fine considering how stubborn Santos defence is. The important thing is, we did n't lose at home.

Guys Clifford Ngobeni is simple the best, its unfortunate that THE SCIENTIST and THE RULING PARTY are doing so well.

Wow i could n't even see Ngobeni lacks match fitnes, he controls the middle like he was born to do so. Kroll had a negative effect on Ngobeni's style of play, because even at Ajax he was more offensive.

Klate is showing signs of fitness and R8 will soon release its Kw.

What I've noticed from my philosopher, pirates is on form and players have got confidence and the lucky is their side for time being,

But mind you, you cannot go a long way with a lucky, they hardly get to the 18 area, most of their goals are from corner kicks, long range shorts and free kicks, when are they penetrating a defence, or scoring from sharing the ball until de 18 area, or a goal from build up?

I sense lucky for them, since from the league title, they were relying on de favour from other teams, anyway lets wait and see where their lucky is taking the to,

KING, watch your words!

Chiefs players are so called average players, I sense anger from this words, while Pirates players are playing second fiddle from Chiefs players from National team.

Jali had 2 get the chance bcos Yeye was injured.

Khune,,,,,(Josephs,on de bench)
Majoro, Parker and Tshabalala,

Benny, Ndulula and Mbuyane( Not even in the squad of Bafana Bafana)
