Kaizer Chiefs beat Bidvest Wits 2-1

Posted: 24 August 2011 Time: 21:12

Kaizer Chiefs continued their impressive start to the season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Bidvest Wits at FNB Stadium.

Having beaten the Clever Boys by the same score in the MTN8 quarterfinals earlier this month, Amakhosi kept up their 100 percent start to their League campaign thanks to goals from Josta Dladla and Lehlohonolo Majoro – the third successive game in which the two have netted a goal apiece.

The teams were evenly matched in the first half, though Wits were perhaps the faster out of the starting blocks and created a couple of half chances for Bhongolwethu Jayiya and Ryan Chapman, but Itumeleng Khune was equal to both of their attempts.

Chiefs gradually found their rhythm in attack and were soon threatening the visitors’ defence, with Siphiwe Tshabalala cracking a shot over the crossbar in the 18th minute.

Five minutes later the Amakhosi created the best chance of the half, with Dladla running onto a brilliant ball out of defence from Khune, but Energy Murambadoro made a great save in a one-on-one situation.

The rest of the first half and the early minutes of the second saw the defences tighten up, but Chiefs broke the deadlock almost out of nowhere in the 54th minute.

Tshabalala provided a wonderful cross from the left flank and Dladla scored his third goal of the season with a bullet header that gave Murambadoro absolutely no chance.

But Chiefs’ lead was relatively short-lived as Sibusiso Vilakazi took advantage of an assist from his namesake Sifiso to drive home an equalising goal in the 68th minute.

The Clever Boys very nearly surged into the lead just a few minutes later, with a deflected cross from Sipho Mngomezulu dropping onto the top of the crossbar, before Sifiso Myeni lobbed an effort over the crossbar under pressure from Khune.

Chiefs responded to the Wits resurgence by introducing Majoro off the bench, and the former AmaZulu player netted the winner in the 77th minute, heading home from Dladla’s cross.

Khune was called upon to make one exceptional save as Chiefs defended their lead, palming away a long range shot that skidded through a crowded penalty area, though he was somewhat fortunate that Myeni was unable to turn home the rebound.

which foreigners are you talkin about? don't come and expose your stupidity in public please, every team has a certain number of forign players allowed!!!!! if you desperately wanna see teams developing south african talent, why don't you start your own team that will only have south african players?

Great game by Khosi, and good win, every point counts in the long run.For us now, all we need to do, is to keep the momentum going, and collect as many points as we can, and let the rest go on with ''claiming to be galaxy of stars''.At the end of the day, De Sa si no problem, as he can't convert his side line antics into the field, his boys just poses no threat to the Mighty Zebras........Rise Khosi Rise, and let the others watch with shock, Rise Khosi Rise, let the rest feel your sting.

@ Legend, I don't know what you're trying to bring, we talking ON THE FIELD results, and you bring some OFF THE FIELD stuff.Whether there were 13 supporters or 100k, the result stands KC 2 - 1 Wits, and @ Harry Gwala, the results stand MUFC 2 - 1 Red Lions Netball Club.
You can go hang now............

@Mc Bee, I concur with you on that note, I don't know if Tau is talking enough, but there seem to be a gap in front of Khune.Gould is out of question, hence we have to look for an alternative, or even, try Baloyi(Lucky) in the role, as he perfomed with aplomb the first time he played against Sundowns, marking off Mphela to zero. Also, we need more penetration down the middle, Baloyi/Tinashe combination is more defensive than offensive, hence all our attacks are orchestrated on the wings.

@K, clearly you have no clue of the rules and regulations of the game. Each team is allocated five(5)foreign players allowance, and on any match day, only three(3) of those can take to the field. This is the case with all 16 PSL teams. If your team( Red Lions Netball Club) doesn't utilize that, blame your own Dr. Irvin Sokhela and his white-headed coach.
