Kaizer Chiefs beat Jomo Cosmos

Posted: 13 August 2011 Time: 22:13

A rousing final 10 minutes saw ended with Kaizer Chiefs securing a 2-1 win over Jomo Cosmos at the FNB Stadium on Saturday night.

The Chiefs goals were scored by Lehlohonolo Majoro and Josta Dladla. The Cosmos goal came from Tshidiso Tukane.

AmaKhosi were in control of most of the game, but wasted far too many chances and should really have wrapped the game up by a larger margin.

The first half was Chiefs making most of the play, and Cosmos doing most of the chasing, with the visiting side showing the occasional threat on the counter-attack.

Chiefs were a constant threat down the right and it as from this channel that they scored after only one minute. Bernard Parker was the provider, whipping in a low cross, which was neatly, indeed delicately, turned home by Lehlohonolo Majoro.

Chiefs created a couple more half chances, but Cosmos keeper Avril Phali was not overly troubled.

In a rare attack, in the 16th minute, Cosmos’ Nonyane broke through on goal, but Ithumeleng Khune moved quickly off his line to close down the angle and made an excellent save. He was however hurt in the challenge and was replaced five minutes later was Arthur Bartman.

Chiefs though for the most part were on the ascendancy and could have added further goals if Parker had managed to curl his shot on target or if Siphiwe Tshabalala had done better with only Phali to beat.

Ezenkosi could have however equalised just before the break when Bartman parried Siyabonga Nontshinga’s header straight to Phethego Maebela, but he blasted wide from only five yards out.

Chiefs came out playing with purpose after the restart, with Tshabalala leading the way.

The Bafana midfielder had two efforts in quick succession, but both were superbly dealt with by the outstanding Phali.

The hosts should have made it 2-0 after 72 minutes when Majoro was fouled by Nontshinga.

But Parker, on his right foot, shot far too close to Phali, who saved with his legs.

Cosmos equalised with eight minutes to go, Bethuel Tukane scoring with a wonderful curling shot into the top corner.

It seemed as if Chiefs were going to have to settle for a draw, but in the 89th minute Tshabalala floated down the left flank and squared for Josta Dladla for an easy tap in.

Cosmos ended with 10 men after Siyabonga Nhlapo was sent off in the dying seconds.

Thnx 4 de 3 points but real concerning en crucial issue is de way de team play. Khune must recover quickly adawys dat madala will cost us. I still have my doubt wit Sweswe, Mashamaite must get a chance.

In de middle of de park we need sum fresh blood for dat position of the general. Sumbody tell me wat Yende en Masango did 4 us 2day. I am not a fan of dis 2 guys dey r wasteful.

Shabba was selfish most of de tym en only started playing wen Cosmos equalised. My hat goes off 2 de dangerous twins Parker en Majoro. Majoro is a genius just wait en c.

My starting eleven

1. Khune
2. Tau
3. Ritchie
4. Isaacs
5. Mashamaite
6. Sibeko 4 now
7. Nale
8. Dladla
9. Majoro
10.Parker
11.Shabba

Yeye 2 add mo value wen he recovers en Lebese en junior on bench

Chiefs must start taking their supporters seriously. I've bin watching this team 4 mo than ten yrs, n they do not change. They play gud futbol but fail to score. In 80% of their games, the goalkeeper of the opposition wins the man of the match award. Ther is no composure infront of goals. I feel lyk, playing for kaizer chiefs is taken for granted by these guys. They do not give their all.

C'mon all ye Chibuku fans post some more rubbish becos I enjoy seeing you feeling the pain of our win. Especially when you were very sure that you are going to spend the rest of the nite celebratin our last minute draw and the fact that Parker missed a penalty. To the piece of sh*it who says the goal was pure offside please go and ask that skheberesh of your mada to open her legs and you will c a pure offside there. Deal with it Chiefs won.it was not a draw and if you had already prepared a post abt our last minute draw please keep it you can use it next time. As for today just go to bed with a heavy heart. Shaaaapaaaaa Khosi Shaaapaaaaaa....

Now that we have sorted out these Chibuku idiots can we do an analysis of the match.

My opinion is that the boys played well. There was more cohesion that in our game against Wits. Our backline looked tight and more organized.Bernard Parker played well even though he missed the pen. the gud thing abt Parker is that the guy is comfortable on the ball and can make gud decisions. He is mobile and makes space for fellow strikers. I believe after 3 or 4 games Parker will come gud and will kill many teams.

Majoro has to work on his first touch adawise I lyk his neva say die attitude. Keegan Ritchie played well and I think with tyme he can get even better.Shabba evergreen as usual.

My biggest worry is Yende. This guy is not taking his futball to the next level. Maybe it is tym to give this Lucky Baloyi a chance. The boy is a gud passer of the ball. What a killer pass to Shabba.

Bartman has seen better days in futball maybe it's tym to try Thela Ngobeni. All in all we played well and the score is not a true reflection of the match. We shud have won @ least 3-1 or more but at least we won and some ppl are going to bed gutted by our win.

Its amazing for sum1 to claim that u support a team but u get so negative in the early period of the season. I just believe that most teams are still as rusty and you r unlikely to see a good game atleast till the 6th_8th game.there will always be an area of improving but generally today chiefs outplayed cosmos . I wish though that chiefs learn how to outscore the opposition b4 they invite the unnecessary pressure . Rise Khosi Rise

Well done Yellow Zebras for that hard fought lucky win!!!I'm not sure if you guys have what it takes to be the best & ultimately be crowned champion.with Khune out & Shaba destined to Saudi Arabia,I forsee disaster & before late VV will be crucified.realistcally Majoro is at 55% a reliable goalscorer to bank on.Parker is the kind who will never give you a 15 goals a season so you guys a tough job ahead of you.but all in all a good result to kick-start a good campaign to accompany the Championsa to the ultmate price.
As for Cosmos,Jomo must first fire himself as a coach & he must serious with acquiring the best players who can compete in the leaque not what we saw tonight.
