Amakhosi beat Bidvest Wits in Nedbank Cup

Posted: 10 April 2011 Time: 17:16

Kaizer Chiefs are through to the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup after beating defending champions Bidvest Wits 4-0 at Bidvest Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Siphiwe Tshabalala got a brace; Stembiso Ngcobo and George Lebese made it four.

After playing to an exciting 1-1 draw in the League midweek, a lot was expected from both teams in their Nedbank Cup clash, but despite the four goals the match failed to produce similar excitement.

Chiefs were the dominant side as the Clever Boys struggled to keep up with, with Siphiwe Tshabalala calling the shots and giving the home side all sorts of trouble.

Amakhosi made their intentions clear in the first few minutes, and Darren Keet produced a great save to deny Siphiwe Tshabalala.

However there was nothing to stop 'Shaba' three minutes later as he beat the offside trap before rounding off the goalkeeper to put his side ahead.

Wits striker Sifiso Vilakazi had a header miss the target in the 16th minute.

In the 33rd minute, Amakhosi doubled the lead when Sthembiso 'Mapholoba' Ngcobo tabbed in a corner-kick from Tshabalala.

The score at half-time was 2-0.

In the 47 minute, Sibusiso 'General' Vilakazi played a neat one-two with Stanton Fredericks but Vilakazi's shot narrowly missed the target.

Tshabalala should have increased Chiefs' lead in the 73rd minute but sent his close range shot wide.

Two minutes later Shaba made up for his earlier miss as he beat two defenders before completing his brace.

In the 80th minute, Tshabalala was replaced by George Lebese, and within three minutes of being on the pitch Lebese grabbed the fourth goal for Chiefs, netting with a spectacular long-range free kick that beat Keet hands down.

In the last minute of the match, Sifiso Myeni was given his marching orders, a decision that left everyone puzzled.

KING: 2011-04-07 10:56
They are out of the race and very frustrated that Wits will kick them out of the Nedbank as well and they will have to look for a new coach and players who are free agents (kwakwakwakwa!)

chiefs will lose no doubt about that.

Today i was happy to see Josta Dladla being given a chance as well as full game by Chiefs technical heads. It was also good to see Abia Nale given a run as well as seeing the young promising George Lebese being considered for the match.
Without singling out individuals, i believe the Josta Dladla might prove crucial for Chiefs remaining games of season both the League and Cup.
Josta Dladla is magic, experienced and good team player and that's what Chiefs need riht now. Josta Dladla might be the salvation to Chiefs dreams for next coming matches in completion of this season program.
I sense a final before the Nedbank Cup final tomorrow at the draw.

Eish they celebrate as if they are in the finals eei people its only the last 8.

Looking at the remaining teams, Chiefs can only beat AmaZulu, the rest will be a nightmare for the average team.

When is the draw, i am sure they want to avoid THE GALAXI OF STARS.

I just can not keep my opinions to myself, they are useful information to the nation,
I agree with King, there is only one team cabbage farmers can win against from the 7, Amazulu, the rest, even the Thidiela's, you cant win against them! you need to bribe Nedbank to draw against Amazulu, for if you can draw against OP, you out! we will be playing Stars in the finals!

LESEGO: The game was on Sunday, why are still shouting for.

Mash-do: We are all awaiting the draw, all those remaining teams are gunning for Chiefs because they are the weakest team in that last 8. Baroka captain said it, of the 2 Soweto giants, they would prefer to play Kaizer Chiks.

Now back to the PSL race, Madigage wants to finish in the top8, so on wednesday, he will collect his 3 points from the average Chiks.
